  1. I noticed one problem with StartIsBack+: sometimes when I open Start Menu and press down arrow, the first item in right column gets highlighted instead of the first item in left column. I'm not sure how to reproduce this reliably - it seems to happen every now and then (just enough that I can't rely on muscle memory to press Win, Down, Enter to open the top pinned item).
  2. Why waste resources on a more than a decade old OS that has less than a year of support left?
  3. OK, here goes:divider lines are hard to see in my colour scheme (though they look fine in other high-contrast themes), also the vertical divider line seems to be missing completely (it was there in the regular version) submenus (eg. Shutdown, Control Panel) use wrong highlight style (it looks like highlight Windows 7 and older used, instead of what Windows 8 uses); for me this isn't a problem (I actually prefer this style, even though it differs from regular menus), but it might bother somebody else using high contrast themes (in High Contrast Black, the text is black and background dark magenta, which makes selected items hard to read) In Windows 7, All Programs used the window background colour, not menu/button background. I preferred this (and I'd actually prefer if the background on the left always used this colour), but since Windows 8 uses the button background in many places where window background was used on older Windows versions, I'm unsure if doing that would be the right thing to do Would it be possible to use the user picture frame from the selected StartIsBack theme even in high-contrast mode? Oh, and this isn't high-contrast related - the text you type in the search box always looks dimmed (I reported this problem before) - it should use the regular text colour (this is visible both in normal theme, and in high-contrast ones).
  4. I now tried this build with my own colour scheme, and it appears that StartIsBack doesn't use the correct background colour - compare the "old" StartIsBack (left) and the test build (right): Oh, and the Run command sometimes shows up in the menu, even though it's not enabled.
  5. I tried to post on that forum several times, but the reply never seems to stick. Two problems I noticed: - in high contrast mode, Start menu opens under the taskbar, so the search field and shutdown button aren‘t visible (they're covered by the taskbar) - clicking the Start button doesn’t close Start menu when it's already open
  6. All buttons with Microsoft's trademarks will be removed - that includes both orbs, and the white flag.
  7. Maybe you could do it exactly like in XP - icons that are in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu first (assuming there are any), followed by folders then icons from Programs? (not that I care - I got too used to the Vista/7 style to go back to XP.
  8. Well, in XP icons would be sorted both before and after folders; specifically, icons that classic Start Menu placed at the top of Start menu (not in Programs) were displayed first, followed by Programs content after a separator.
  9. The way this is implemented is insecure - the CC entry form opens in an overlay of an insecure site.
  10. We already did that at work - first with 10 licenses, then when these ran out, with 40 more.
  11. Windows 8 renamed some of the options - eg. it's now Sign out instead of Log off, and at least in Slovenian, the translation changed accordingly. You can see that these things changed in the classic shutdown dialog - click an empty part of the desktop or taskbar and press Alt+F4, then check the drop-down entries.
  12. This flashes on my secondary monitor for some reason. Also, at least in RC1, the highlight colour was still orange, even in high contrast theme.
  13. I noticed a small cosmetic problem while translating: on the Advanced page, the "px" label is covered by the scrollbar (at least in 120DPI mode). Also, the section labels (eg. "Configure Start menu items and behavior") are always dark blue, even in high contrast themes (makes them hard to see with black background). Two more translation-related questions: - is it possible to translate the control panel icon name? - previous translation versions had some strings for the DLL, but these are missing in the most recent RU-RU.txt example file - are they not supported anymore?
  14. I took the colour from the charms bar (though that one does have black background, regardless of theme). Still, I think it looks fine with most themes.
  15. There's a weird problem with themes in high contrast mode: if "Disable Start Menu transparency" is enabled, Start Menu goes fully transparent in the non-default themes. Also, could you include my orb images in the installer, too?
  16. Here's a comparision between StartIsBack 2.0 preview and Windows 7: Notice how StartIsBack's search text colour is lighter. This is even more noticeable in my high contrast mode (though the colour was originally pointed out to me by somebody else).
  17. BTW, when you type in the Search box, the text has wrong colour.
  18. It's probably some random signature that matches - I've had several AV programs flag a certain GIMP plugin as malware for a while.
  19. Depending on how many users you have, a possible solution is to put a red warning "Antivirus XYZ wrongly detects StartIsBack as a virus. It's recommended to switch to a better AV product", then watch how fast the AV vendor fixes the problem.
  20. I noticed, which is why I asked (again).
  21. 2.0 seems to work fine for me, except that it's reminding me in the settings that a new version is available. Anyway, is there any chance to fix the colours of the Shut down and Control Panel submenus in high contrast mode? Also, if you wish, you're free to include the orb images I made.
  22. Thanks. I haven't seen this in Windows 7, so I assumed it had something to do with StartIsBack.
  23. Yeah, that's the exact dialog I get. Things don't freeze while it's open, only afterwards. For me nothing happens when I click either of the buttons - the elevated program never opens (I don't get the UAC prompt because I've got it set to elevate silently).
  24. I noticed something unusual recently: I press the Windows key, type power and then press Ctr+Shift+Enter (to run PowerShell as Administrator), but instead of PowerShell, Paint Shop Pro starts (even though PowerShell icon was selected, and Paint Shop Pro wasn't even on the list of results. If I then press the Windows key again and type something to search, the taskbar and Start Menu freeze, and I have to kill and restart explorer.exe. Edit: actually, after that happens, doing anything with the Start Menu will freeze it and the taskbar. Also, it appears that typing anything and pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter triggers the problem (and it's always PSP trying to start up in debug mode, regardless of what I type) Using StartIsBack 1.3.3 on Windows 8 Pro x64.
  25. I haven't seen delays in StartIsBack, but Start Screen -> All programs takes forever to load icons for me.
