  1. Has anyone got NTBACKUP to work in WINPE? I could really do with this so I can restore a bare metal server from a systate backup. I am starting to investigate what files are required.
  2. Ah thats why your Sonic you got there before me! Too quick for me!
  3. try AutoStreamer Its a great program does all the work for you!
  4. createprocess returned error 2 normally means a file is missing or wrong variables. If I were you I would make sure all your programs are in the $OEM$ Folder. Only add one program at a time in the RunOnceex.cmd Also Some of the paths are SOFT and some are soft sorry I is picky! Also if you have a test machine just execute the RunOncex.cmd and make sure that the reg entries have been made reboot and see if it installs ok. Or change the location of the Software instead of installing from cd install from the drive $oem$\$1sotware then use a cleanup.cmd file to clean after it you do not wish the software to be on the machine. Also can you not install Media Player from the svc.inf way? And finally I would edit out your serials in future especially that I can see your using pirate software winamp 5! I am not having a go just don't want you to get a smacked bum. If I can help with any Silent installs let me know
  5. Many thanks for the reponse's!!! After looking at all my batch files and the last post got me thinking about the txtsetup.oem I checked the batch file to copy the drivers accross to the flatdrivers folder from the Smartstart CD and it turns out it copied all wnet drivers (Windows 2003) so that was why it was not booting up! So I tested this setup with the Windows 2003 CD instead of Windows 2000 and all went well..... Booted to PE Ran CONREP, ILO, ACU, DISKPART, MBRfix and formated the drive and started to install fine This was all done without a Reboot. thanks foir the replys guys let me know if you require gmail accounts sorry thats all i got unless you want some old dell poweredge servers 4400 lol weights a ton! This is working like a treat now for 2003 anyway. I will test it with 2000 and then get a TFTP server and PXE going maybe add ADO support assign the MAC of the NIC when its ordered on our system to a sql database someone then can assign a name and build type in the database. One question tho how can I do a auto config for the raid depending on how many drives I have, ie the ML370 has normally 2x System drives on RAID-0+1 and then three drives as a RAID-5 however this can sometimes be four? I was thinking maybe something like a WMI script of some kind or maybe somehow get the ACU program to find out how many drives there are and output this direct into the raid.ini config file? This would mean total zero touch for me. Next to do on the list make a USB Boot option for install intergrate support for Dell Servers Add NTBACKUP to WINPE so I can use it to restore a system state from a bare metal server. trim the winpe image down. Intergrate this into the Bussiness Desktop deployment Solutions Accerator (MS Are pushing this) Anything more to add? I do have a Poor LAN and WAN connetions some 10mb hubs has anyone done anything like chained installations for XP? what I have in mind is all my desktops have a hidden partion containing all the files required to do a rebuild from scratch, if one machine breaks then it will load winpe prob from the server and then connect to its nearest share and rebuild the whole disk including the hidden partition. Just wondering what other people do ie image based or nw build or both?
  6. Bang yep missed that I got the VLM so don't need the Key. Slaps oneself with wetfish! but it should stiil try and go thru setup right?

  8. I beleive you need to edit the winbom.ini file to start your CMD. Bart did have a plugin to start the network automactically maybe you can use this to run your batch etc. I am not sure about HTA support on Barts PE. I have only had experince with WinPE. Hope that helps if not try Barts Site.
  9. Hi, I have tried adding active to the diskpart script but still no boot. I thought the \syspart made the disc active? I have checked with mbrfix and all is well there.
  10. HP\Tools have inside....... ACU (USED FOR RAID CONFIG) ILO (To Config the intergrated lights out board) System has hwdiscovery.exe, ifhw.exe conrep, hwquery.exe, statemgr.exe, and the reboot files to boot to a:,pxe,c and cd. MS Tools is located on my CD x:\i386\system32 for diskpart etc. GlobalData holds my unattended file, raid.ini files, diskpart scripts MSDistribution holds my copy of the Windows 2000 SP4 VLM CD. HPQFlatfiles holds all the drivers extracted from the HP smartstart cd 7.40. HPQComponets holds the drivers in exe format for windows 2000,2003 and 64 bit versions it also has the HP management files. System Scripst hold most of the scripts server detect etc. At the moment I have startdeploy running from the a: drive. I have forgotten what version Winpe I have and what I used for the source files. So I am going to create the following discs to test... WINPE 2004 With Winxpsp2 WINPE 2004 With Win2003sp1 WINPE 2005 With Winxpsp2 WINPE 2005 With Win2003sp1 Many Thanks!
  11. I used to have this problem and Ghost would hang on the SATA drive... untill..... I went into the BIOS of my computer and set the drive emu to combi it then work fine. If your only doing SATA in ghoct then use the NOIDE switch.
  12. best bet is to boot from winpe into ramdrive use diskpart to assign letters first format and install. Try MBRfix in the forum somwhere which is very good. if you use winpe dont forget the syspart as this makes the drive bootable.
  13. Is the question that you have Utente.User as well as Utente in your Docs and settings folder? Man these question getting tricky :-)
  14. Ok you want to add Reg values to install on next reboot but you want the install from a network location instead of local or cd? Is this right? have you got network going or is it just your server and the client?

I skip these files and reboot to c: nothing happens. Any help would be great! and suggestions on how to simplfy the install? Does any know what part I should use MBRfix so I dont have to reboot my "Tin" Everything apart from startnet.cmd is run from a networkshare. within $oem$ is $WIN_NT$.~LS which contains system drivers for net and scsi. Drivers folder which contain net drivers and scsi drivers. ntcsp drivers in exe format.
  16. keep me posted on your progress
  17. chris Thanks for that this will save me a reboot which means time. Dan
  18. I see you are using HP kit do you have the SSSTK 32 ? this works ok but needs the reboot for diskpart to read the disks properly. I bet if you were to read the MBR and write that info to a temp drive you wont need to reboot. There was another post on this and the chap wrote the MBR to the Ramdrive and thus avoiding the reboot. Take it you are talking about G4's?
  19. chris could you let me know what tool you used please as i have this problem also?
  20. The first topic mentions Adobe Reader 6 not 7. I am also having the same problem everything installs ok apart from Adobe Reader 6 not everyone wants the newest piece of software out etc. If i find the answer I will let you know my friend. If you found an answer to your problem let me know :-)
  21. i see this question has been asked before and again some good links are in the posts..... PE2USB is way faster boot prepare disk, copy files over kick off winnt32 done. How to boot/install from USB key
  22. Well not all drive are drives are made the same. and you mentioned a 2gb pen drive, the largest you can boot from is 1gb (Well supported) I have a number of HP Machines which I have used a 512MB pen drive to boot of using the HP Format Utility and have completed an install from my pen. I will see if I can dig out the doc's in work for you.
  23. Very Intresting............ So say I had a computer that comes with OEM and a COA Sticker, I take out the Hard drive install another Drive and install Corp XP. Will I be able to use the drive I took out in another "Made Computer" and change the CD to Retail and use the COA key. Or is it the case of COA OEM is for the motherboard? I know certain places sell OEM XP with hard drives. Just wondering.
  24. Hi I have a VLM CD with the same label and I have copied your winnt.sif just running it thru VMWARE now I let you know.............. Line 25 of your winnt.sif is invalid......... right all works ok with the first part of the file changed [Data] ;AutoPartition=1 the ( ; ) is invalid MsDosInitiated="1" UnattendedInstall="Yes" changed the Below to your winnt.sif and it works fine with VMWARE [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS Repartition=Yes FileSystem=ConvertNTFS ExtendOemPartition = 1 UnattendSwitch="yes" The entries marked in red are my additions :-) hope that helps on another note the "Welcome to windows" msg popped up on my VLM Unattened disc i narrowed it down to the OEMdriverspath not being in the correct format, just in case it happens to you
  25. How about Virtual Floppies and PXE Boot. if you know the MAC address call the PC with Wake On Lan (If you have it) then assign the MAC to an image or run Barts. then you can use a Net dom script to add your pc to the domain and assign name if you know it before that is. saving you some trend on your shoes. I take it you have a very tight budget? The old powerquest 5.5 was great for this solution then symantec took over :-(
