  1. I turned on my computer today and noticed that Automatic Updates was downloading something. Does anyone know what that update may have been? I am running XP SP2, and my computer was completely up-to-date before today.
  2. I am using IE6 on WinXP SP2 and everything on both update pages works perfectly. This does not happen either on my computer.@Tomcat76, on your XP page, at the bottom of the notes section, you accidentally said "Update your Windows 2000 configuration," instead of "Update your Windows XP configuration," when you referred to that section.
  3. I reran HFSLIP last night (not HFSLIP_60128, but HFSLIP_60122). However, when I tried installing this morning, setup kept restarting again. Maybe I should try it without WINNT.SIF? -- Super-Magician
  4. Yes, the people at Microsoft have changed their minds again. The new LegitCheckControl.cab does not contain GWFSPIDGen.dll, however, which means anyone using the new CAB file with HFSLIP_60128.cmd or earlier will receive a file copy error ('WGA2.dll') during setup (see here). As tommyp mentions there, wait for HFSLIP_60129, which will surface in a few hours or so. -- Super-Magician
  5. Just wondering - why was the color in the script set to '87'? -- Super-Magician
  6. Yes, it does. Also, when I referred you here, I was actually talking about this section of my post: -- Super-Magician
  7. Ah, that must be the problem! Thanks. Also, regarding my problem with the music during Welcome to Windows, have a look at the bottom of my post here. -- Super-Magician Edit #1: The download link for MSICabExtract.exe (well, a ZIP file containing that) listed on the HFSLIP page seems to be broken. Do you think you can post it along with MSICabExtract.txt? Edit #2: Never mind, I got it off here. Edit #3: Problem with the MSXML 6.0 MSI solved.
  8. My user account does have administrative rights. Should I try HFSLIP again or something?-- Super-Magician
  9. OK, but you can have both MSXML 4 and MSXML 6 in the HF folder, right?
  10. Yup, it's there - thanks! I checked I386 and could not find any msxml6.dl_ or msxml6r.dl_ file. Could this be the result of having msxml4.exe in HF in addition to msxml6.msi?-- Super-Magician
  11. I guess it probably didn't work because I also had msxml4.exe (the result of your update script) in HF. I still have my last ERROR_REPORT.TXT file, which is the one from when I ran HFSLIP with those two additional updates in HF. Do you want to have a look at it?-- Super-Magician
  12. @Tomcat76 The two additional updates you added to your XP page, the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service and MSXML 6.0, are not yet properly slipstreamed by HFSLIP. I tried running it today and the two extra files (msxml6.msi and UPHClean-Setup.msi) do not show up in the ERROR_REPORT.txt file. I know HFSLIP uses FINDSTR lines to locate hotfixes, so I'll just wait until you update it, tommyp... Never mind. -- Super-Magician
  13. What's the difference between MSXML 4.0 SP2 and MSXML 6.0, and if you have version 6.0, do you need version 4.0 too? -- Super-Magician
  14. I'm not sure, but I remember generating parts of this file using WINNT.SIF Creator, and Setup Manager for the rest. WINNT.SIF Creator does have a few bugs in it, though. For example, I just noticed that the section title is spelled incorrectly (it should be Components).I believe this is what the entries in there do: msmsgs - turns off Windows Messenger msnexplr - disables the MSN Explorer icon (I use a newer version) OEAccess - removes the Outlook Express icon fax - something having to do with Windows Fax Services hypertrm - HyperTerminal, I think? I have tried HFSLIP (albeit an older version) without putting in my WINNT.SIF file, and it worked, so I think it's something wrong with that. I installed an unpatched SP2 about a month ago, and I am pretty sure that there was indeed music.-- Super-Magician Update: The error I received during setup was some sort of Manifest Parse error.
  15. With my latest run of HFSLIP, in which I removed the extra space in the 898461 section of the script, Setup keeps restarting at a certain point. However, the last time I had a working installation, I did not include an unattended setup file, so I think maybe that's the problem. Anyhow, I've attached the ERROR_REPORT.txt file, along with my WINNT.SIF file so you can make sure there are no problems with it. As setup did not finish, it is impossible to attach WU.txt. [Attachment removed] In addition, the last time I successfully ran HFSLIP and installed it, I noticed that there was no background music during the Welcome to Windows section. There was sound, however. I am pretty sure that I read up on this somewhere else on this forum, and I tried using the search function--but I could not find it again. -- Super-Magician
  16. For the 898461, I am referring to your post on the thread "Am I SOL on HFSLIP? Winxp cd sp1a integrated".
  17. I'm assuming the 898461 problem applies to everyone, right? Anyway, there are a few tiny spelling errors I found in the script. I don't know exactly what lines they are on (how do you find that out?), but... extacted should be extracted (under the two "GET NEW SOURCE FILE" sections) ECHO Updating DOSNET.SIF should be ECHO Updating DOSNET.INF (under the "CABCOMPACT" section) At one point (51224), you had "ECHO SP%SP%.CAB and DRIVER.CAB Merged", which resulted in "SPSP2.CAB and DRIVER.CAB Merged", for example, but you fixed it after writing the SPXCAB option. Also, just a suggestion or comment: Would it be possible to make, let's say, a SP2.cab file instead of a generic SPx.cab file? I noticed that in the script, no matter what SP was originally applied in the SOURCE, an SPx.cab file was created. Is this so you wouldn't have to type everything to determine what SP it is? BTW, great job on HFSLIP, tommyp! I can't believe how much effort was put into your "little" (148KB) script. -- Super-Magician
  18. After running this script, do you still need msxmlcab.exe in HF or can you delete it?
  19. Thanks for the help, tommyp. I realized this right after I had posted.
  20. For some reason, I couldn't get the hotfix integration to work successfully. I used the most recent version of HFSLIP (060107). After successfully installing the HFSLIP'ed XP SP2 on a virtual machine using VMWare, Windows Update proceeded to download all the hotfixes I had supposedly integrated all over again. Although the programs I had put in HFSVPK installed successfully (along with the HighMAT extension), all of the hotfixes failed to integrate in the install. Windows Update also redownloaded the Package Installer (KB898461) and Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803). Windows Media Player 10 also did not install properly. I have used HFSLIP before, but I don't know if it worked on those occasions as I really had never tried the installations. Should I test the installation using an old-fashioned CD-based install? -- Super-Magician Note: I actually ran HFNETCHK after Windows Update had reinstalled the hotfixes, so it may not be of much use.
