  1. OK It seems that there is problem with nlite integrating certain updates. All of the updates are in format of fragmented sfx files. But there are properly integrated into installation source. Only 5 updates were not integrated properly, and just end up as .ex_ files in svcpack dir. I will try to integrate them manually to confirm there is no problem with updates themselves. @Kelsenellenelvian, It gives me advantage to be able to use nlite, or other tool, in a way to be able to keep XP updated, on my on pace and time. Using other people's packs can leave me out on dry, since i am at "mercy" of the compiler of the pack. Thank you for link to hfxtract
  2. Thank you, I will look into it and test it all out.
  3. Ok, I am back on the job... Ok here's the final problem : Everything can be integrated and installed properly, only the XP updates are not. I downloaded all the latest hotfixes and updates using AP. But allmost all of the files are in form of sfx chunks files, like on the picture in above post . They can be extracted, but once extracted they refuse to integrate into installation source. Now if I want to integrate them they just end up in svcpack folder as .ex_ files, and are not being integrated, thus adding to the size of the installation source. They will be probably installed, but that is not integration. Also if one update is necessary before second, it cannot be installed this way. So my question is, how do I integrate this files with nlite/or some other way, aside from doing it manually. Can anyone help me with this final obstacle?
  4. I had a problem with pidgen when SP2 came up, and later when SP3 came up. Offcourse I later realized I was trying to use a key that was not intended for VLK source and vice versa. After that I always took care of proper key placement for proper source, and never had problems again.
  5. And If the wirelles card is having a weak signal, just plug it in the electrical grid (more copper wiring, better for the signal strength)
  6. As far as I know there is no real difference in either performance or durability. I just know it is advisable to carry the disk verticaly or to the side of the disc horizontaly,to avoid the needle from making a sudden contact with the surface, while transporting. Dont know if it's true...
  7. Ok here's the prob : I can use either RyanVM post SP3 update pack or Autopatcher downloaded hotfixes/update. Now, the advantage of using Ryan's pack is that it can be fully integrated (no .exe files remaining in svcpack folder) but is not up to date - release is of January 18, 2009. The Autopatcher is up to date but almost all of the updates I downloaded latest hotfixes/updates using AP yesterday, and they are in that stupid .sfx format and cannot be integrated or should I say "slipstreamed" directly via nlite. I kind of fency AP more, since its more up to date. So i need to find a way to repackage those hotfixes so I can integrate them via nlite. Beacuse if I leave them as they are, I huge size of windows source installation, since , as you can see in the picture the whole exe files is left intact in svcpack folder , instead of just slipstreaming necessary files , in this case files from SP3 folders of the hotfix. Ok tanx for the advise. Since I have exams coming up, I will leave this matter rest until the 9th April, then I will continue.
  8. Ok, it's all works now. I traced the issue to some hotfixes I added long time ago , that ended in svcpack folder. However when I update some hotfixes they appear in .exe format in svcpack folder instead as .ca_ files (catalog files) , when I look inside I see that they are in form of sfx packed package. When I start the mentioned hotfixes , a temp file is generated on hd, having the normal dir structure as a normal hotfix package. How can i add this files to be integrated normally as other hotfixes (so they leave just .ca_ file in svcpack folder)? When I try to repackage the extracted hotfix back to .exe so nlite can use it, it fails to integrate, so how can I repackage them in this normal folder structure way? Also if I choose to use ryanvm post sp3 update pack to update windows, can I use nlite after/before that integration, or is not advisable?
  9. Ok I tried on unlited source, and it works. When I nlite a source, and want to nlite it more (e.g. add component/or hotfix) do I have to load last session ? (beacuse I havent been doing this so far) G-force, will try the way you advised, and then if i get error will post my lastsession.ini. Tanx to you both
  10. i tried manually and I get error stating : extracted packages cannot be integrated, the /integrate switch must be used with the original software update package. g-force, yes I acctually first removed components from XP, up to point where it is 206MB in size, then when I installed on VM, tested it, and when I was sufficiently convinced that there are no issues caused by reducing size/funcionality I decided to continue. My idea was to add WMP11+hotfixes, then in second run IE7 and hotfixes, 3rd run postSP3 updates and hotfixes, and then add .NET framework. As you can see I am stuck at 2nd run. I did try to do all (except .NET) at once, and as a result i got BSOD error on some T-stage. So i thought maybe I should try one step at the time, so I would be able to localize problem. johnhc, yes everything is hash ok, it is something that i am doing that is causing this issue, it is not related to validity of soft. Will try again, at report back, tanx for ideas guys.
  11. Do you need to have IE7 slipstreamed in XP installation to be able to use IE8 or u can just install/add it to installation, on any original SP3 disc?
  12. Ok strel, tanx for the answer, will try the installation implementation of .NET using your method, it seems easy enough.
  13. Ok let's say I want to install all .NET Framework versions 1.1-.3.5 with all SP's and hotfixes. If I just use .cmd file to install , everything is installed properly (installation progress), but when I look after restart, it shows that e.g. SP's didnt install and some hotfixes, beacuse restart is required after installing main .NET package e.g. .NET 1.1 main package. SP's and some hotfixes show up as not being installed in add/remove section and on windows update (probly beacuse it uses same values for establishing that) How did you address this issue - requirement of restarts, so that everything IS installed properly and displayed properly?
  14. Johnhc, Vista x64. But thinking the problem may be there, have also tried under XP pro SP3 x32, using Vmware resulting in same issue. I downloaded from main site, and redownloaded using g-force's link (which is the same if I might add). I need hash calculator for checking MD5? I dont get why it doesnt work, when same file of IE and same nlite version, works for other. I cant seem to find cause. And I am out of ideas. Only thing left is to try to this nliting on nonnlited XPx32 system host. EDIT: MD5 Hash checked out fine.
  15. Did you format the partition before using "unchopped" version or at least delete or Windows related files and folders?
  16. I dont quite understand : do you have all in one installer available from 1.1-3.5 with all SP's and hotfixes integrated? In what whay is it different from silent installer addon from ryanvm forum?
  17. Bizzare issues to say the least, try passing the command to restart/start the theme services on first login net start themes u can do it via winnt.sif's GuiRunOnce option or RunOnce registry key. EDIT: use .cmd file for that code e.g. themeres.cmd where net start themes is in .cmd file
  18. Well I think I will have sloved the issue using all in one pack from ryanvm forums, so I can be said that the problem has been solved. Johnhc, I can see everything running and installing, but they dont show ap later in add/remove and is offered again from windows update site.
  19. I had a dual boot of XPSP3 x32 and VistaSP1 x64 on RAID0 (ASUS P5B-deluxe, and MSI P35 platinum) before finally migrating to only Vista. I had no issue installing it. Just first install Vista, then XP, Vista will recognise older OS and will ammend boot.ini accordingly. Vice versa, and you might have problems, so they say on the internet anyways, so Vista first to be sure. Be sure to use 2 partitions, to avoid folders being crosslinked and used by both OS. So focus your attention on install media, i think there is the problem. Also try installing from non-nlited disc via F6 method or put SATA controller in IDE mode as opposed to native, just to see if it installs properly (u can allways delete OS and start again in native mode).
  20. Will try installing all in one .NET pack from ryan forums @ T-13 and see if it works.
  21. Sorry for time delay, here is the lastsesssion file contents [Main] Env = 1.4.9.1 - 2.0.50727.1434.Microsoft Windows NT 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - English (United States) [Tasks] Hotfixes and Update Packs [Components] ;# Compatibility # [KeepFiles] msconfig.exe [RemoveFiles] clock.avi yahoo.bmp swtchbrd.bmp [Options] ProfilesDir = "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings" TargetPath = "WINDOWS" temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp [Patches] TcpIp = 1000 DoUxTheme [Services2] [Tweaks] [Unattended] ComputerType = Automatic MaximumDataStorePercentOfDisk = 12 RestorePointLife = 30 DesktopTheme = Default|| AutoUDay = 5 AutoUHour = 15 ProgFilesPath = "\Program Files" [NetAdapter1] connname = "" macaddress = "" ipaddress = "192.168.0.1" subnetmask = "255.255.255.0" defaultgateway = "" dnsserver1 = "" dnsserver2 = "" winsserver = "" netbiossetting = "0" ipxnetworknumber = "00000000" ipxnetworkframetype = "0xFF" [GuiRunOnce] [Drivers] [Hotfixes] D:\New Folder\IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe
  22. Nope, IE7 I am sure. Downloaded from MS Download page. Ok here is the "error" (sorry i forgot to copy lastsession.ini to flash disc)
  23. When I try to integrate IE7 into source installation files i get an error & "help" or "/? switch" screen from IE package itself. I know IE7 can be integrated so my question is, what am I doing wrong? I have IE7 standalone version installation package, which I downloaded from MS via Autopatcher tool. Do I need a slipstreamable version of IE7 installation package?
  24. I do .NET 1.1 before .NET 3.5 via GuiRunOnce and it is installed properly, not a single error in over 100 runs. However, you cannot install SP1 for .NET 1.1 and subsequent SP1 hotfix just after installation of .NET 1.1. A restart is needed before applying SP1. That is also the last problem left to me, so ryan sillent addon .NET installer is not such a bad idea to try. Or if it could be done to install .NET 1.1 and 3.5 on some T-stage before restart and then after restart when GuiRunOnce stage is run apply .NET 1.1 SP1 + SP1 hotfix & .NET 3.5 hotfix. But dont know how to achive the 1st part prior to restart.... perhaps via svcpack install method? (is it possible?) For some programs it is requirement, e.g. MS transliteration utility, and probably some other software of older date. Here is my install script : @ECHO Installing .NET Framework 1.1-3.5... CD %DVDROM%\OSUPDATE\DOTNET COPY /Y netfx*.* "%SYSTEMROOT%\TEMP\" %SYSTEMDRIVE% CD "%SYSTEMROOT%\TEMP\" netfx.msi /quiet [b] netfxsp.exe /quiet netfxfx.exe /quiet[/b] %DVDROM% CD %DVDROM%\OSUPDATE\DOTNET dotNetFx35setup.exe /quiet /norestart [Where bold part is "installed", but actually it is not being installed properly due to reboot needed, also let the COPY part not confuse you, since it is extracted from main package due to size, for some reason if it is not installed from %systemdrive% it gives error that path to install source cannot be found] Also does anyone know how to pick apart dotNetFX20,dotNetFX30,dotNetFX35,dotNetMSP directories and dotNetFx35setup.exe from residual files not needed for x86 XPSP3 PRO English local based system,so everything is installed correctly (2.0-3.5), so I can reduce size of the .NET 3.5 installation package in all?
  25. Arent you supposed to use some boot loader to point to xp.bin (being XP cd boot sector) to load it from USB flash based drive? Like cdshell or eazyboot or syslinux based bootloader? Well you made me think, so I will try to build AIO flashdrive based version to see if it is possible. @Volatus cant you just rename .ini file after finishing nliting process?
