  1. I have an ibm thinkpad x40. Pretty nice system. I would have rathered an ASUS, but this one was free.

It is small and very portable (thats what you want in a laptop right?) but the DVD is in the docking station, this has pros and cons. Pros 6 hour battery life undocked. Cons can't use the DVD drive without the docking station, so no SW Rebellion or Empire at War while I travel.

First thing I did when I got it was remove the Windows install that was on it and reinstalled it myself. I left off much of the IBM software and converted the recovery partition to a linux partition for a dual boot. The built in WiFi is nice. Supposedly it has blue tooth but I'm still new to that (i need to find out for sure so I can get one of the new blue tooth mice).

I mostly got the laptop to use for GPS but since this is such a nice one I game on it too. I can play World of Warcraft on it, I actually prefer to play my hunter in PVP on it vs my desktop pc for some reason. It plays it pretty well as long as I stay out of Ogrimmar (and I'm sure higher level instances).

  2. I personally dislike WD. I have a 4.3g WD with 3.some gigs of bad sectors. It is so bad in fact I can't even get it to work enough to have the WD website test it to see if it is bad. And WD's customer service wouldn't help until that had been done.

I've got a Maxtor 300g 16mb cache SATA drive I'm really happy with. I got it for $96 at costco but it was a pricing error. It was supposed to be $149.

  3. 20 to 24 pin adaptor arrived today, but FedEx is playing games with my case. No idea when it will arrive, so I stuck everything into my old xBlade case for now (well my daughter did, she was very excited to be building a computer, she is 6).

  4. I've been using SUSE Linux and the gnome GUI specifially and have really started to love certain things about it. First, I have two task bars. On the top of the screen I have the equivalent of my Start Button, quick launch and clock. The taskbar on the bottom of the screen is where it shows all my open programs and show desktop icon.

I also have added to this task bar a "special character" palette. I click on a special character (₤ ® © ™) then ctrl-v and it inserts it into whatever I am working on.

Any ideas if something like this is possible with XP Pro?

This is a screenie of my Linux desktop.

  5. You were right. I went home and looked again and they're exactly the same execpt for the 4 extra pins. I will order the adaptor you linked.

I guess I was just seeing red when I first went to hook everything up and it didn't mesh. I was thinking the plug on the mobo was physically larger then the psu (other then the 4 extra pins).

    Thanks for the help.

  6. lmao. Do ur prisoners take advantage of the dropped soap?

I've yet to encounter showers in the game. I keep the game running on one of my less used PCs just to see if I can get to the Maxium Security prisons and get some death row stuff going.

In low security you don't even have cells, just beds.

  7. I played this for a couple months but everytime they would update the game would become unplayable even though my system far exceeded their recommended.

Everytime I opened a specific bag my screen would lock up for 0.5seconds to 20 seconds. Also everytime I completed a bonus mission and got the mission complete screen I'd lock up (could still hear sound but no graphics). I submitted a help request on 10-30-06 and worked with their techs for a week or two. Then out of the blue I stopped getting replies.

I kept trying different settings and updated them every 2-3 days with stuff I had done but still never got a reply. Then one day when I would open my character stat screen I started locking up again and would chatter until I closed the window. I submitted a new help request and they closed it out within 20 minutes saying I still have another one open. I added to that and still no reply.

Then out of the blue the very last week of Jan I get an email from them saying they fixed the problem and I can play again. 2 almost 3 months with no reply and then suddenly they fixed it.

During all my communication with their tech support they kept insisting it was a fault in my computer. But we were never able to prove that. I also pointed out the fact that on my community sites there were multiple people posting that they had the same exact problems I was on different systems.

  8. I picked this up for $20 the otherday hoping it was going to be like Roller Coaster Tycoon. Well it is to a degree, you build stuff. That is where the similiarties end.

Prison Tycoon you have very little camera control. Forward, back, left, right, up & down. No zoom, no rotate.

The game is also very slow paced. I had to use the cheat code for super fast to make it 1/2 way interesting. After letting it sit for 8 hours I still had not gotten from Low security to Medium. In that 8 hours I didn't have to build anything over my first prison.

I wish I had picked up the new Civ instead.

  9. Ok reading over the reviews of the cable this isn't what I need. The plug on the mother board is larger (and not because of more pins it is like comparing a 15" monitor to a 19" monitor. They're both monitors but one is just bigger then the other). I will try and get some photos and post them.

Pros: Plugs into a 24 pin socket.

Cons: Does not help solve the problem that the 24 pin sockets were installed to take care of.

Also, 20 pin plugs will work in 24 pin sockets already.

Other Thoughts: My understanding: The extra pins include an additional +12V pin (for two), and that this reduces the chance of a pin burning out under heavy load.

A halfway solution: continue with your current PS. A better one: buy a brand new PS (unfortunate).

A good starting reference explaining the situation:

Comments: I have to say it works, however my system worked fine without it. I feel safer with it on. No diffrence in Mobo or peformance. It should have come with the power supply. They rake you for every penny.

These two reviews in particular concern me. My power supply won't plug into the motherboard... At all. These they are saying they can plug in, just have extra pins after they plug in.

  10. Awesome. The case I am using for the computer is actually the A-Top Gladiator with the gaming PSU. It isn't due to arrive for another week so I wanted to put the new computer together in my old case. Hoping the newer case and psu have the right connection.

If not I'll be all over this adaptor.
