  1. I do have some external drives that I connect via USB. The problem isn't storage, it is programs plus I have the laptop dual booting SUSE10.0 and XP. I keep all my mp3s and movies on my USB drives (i have two from old laptops and they both could use replacing one is <10gb and the other is <5gb).

@Zxian, I am pretty sure it is IDE. I'm not familiar with ZIF at all, but I'm fairly certain I was able to hook this drive up to my other computer using my IDE to USB adaptor.

I'll check out toshiba and seagate.

@LLXX I'm not sure, but I think my HDD from the laptop is larger then my iPod. It might just be the HDD + the caddy I'm thinking of.

Thanks for all the input guys.

  2. The hard drive is very small for this laptop and as such it is very expensive. Roughly twice the price of a normal laptop hard drive. Right now I have a 30gb but could really use an 80 or 100 gb but 60 is the largest they come. So far Hitachi is the only company I've found that makes a drive of this size. Does anyone know if there is another company that has them? http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/c4k60_ce/c4k60_ce.htm

  3. How do I enable my DVD-RW to be accessed by limited access users? I can burn just when when logged in as admin, but my limited user can only see the optical drive as read.

  4. If reselling for more is illegal then how does any store/distributor stay in business?

@ideas keep your eyes out for staples/office max. They frequently have buy 100 get 100 free dvd-r sales. The last bunch of blank dvds I got from staples were 50% off AND buy one get one free. I think I paid $15usd for 200 dvds.

Barring them, Newegg usually has very good prices (do they ship internationally?)

  5. Actually it's just right-click, "Block Content", click on the ad, and you're done.

That is nice. I like that with AdBlock that right off you see the address and can toss wild cards in right away. With Opera you have to go into the blocked content menu and edit (unless I am missing something else).

Turns out I was missing something else. You can edit the links as you block them, click on details before clicking done. I think this might beat adblock. I'll have to use it for a while.

  6. Opera already has an adblocking feature built-in. go to "Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Content > Blocked Content to see all the blocked websites. you have to manually edit the think though.

Everytime you want to block an item you have to go through all that? No thanks, I will stick with AdBlock.

  7. Those VGA cards come with a DVI to VGA adaptor

Great, I looked and didn't see anything listed. I currently have a ViewSonic 21" and am replacing it with an IBM 21".

    Thanks for the info punto.

[edit]Just went and looked at some of the cards again and I see the adaptors[/edit]

  8. Your drivers probably weren't installed properly. If you have another vid card put it in and boot it up. Uninstall the old drivers and then install the right ones. shut down switch cards reboot.

If you don't have a 2nd card try booting into safe mode and doing it there.

  9. I use both Opera and FireFox. I use FF 100% on my linux machines. I would use Opera 100% if they had adblock. I know there are some extension they have to block images, but you have to restart for it to take effect. Adblock blocks images and flash as I see them no need to restart. I also love gMail manager and Forecastfox. I could live without the forecastfox but not my adblock.

  10. Yes there are many ways. Some firewalls have settings in it.McAfee has a thing called Privacy Service that requires you to use a password.Try getting a firewall and going through those settings there will most likely be something there.

I'm trying to run a really stripped down Windows and McAfee would just kill that. I have a hard ware firewall with my router. Maybe I'll just not install any browser then I don't have to worry.

  11. I played Guild Wars for 3-4 months then they made a patch that broke it for me (I literally couldn't run the game anymore) I worked with tech support for a month to figure the problem out. Then they stopped replying to me. From the start of Oct until the end of Jan I heard nothing, I emailed every 3 days and continued to work on the problem myself. In Jan they finally said the problem had been fixed but then the game wouldn't let me connect because of my firewall (same firewall I had when I bought the game).

The game itself was a joke too, I ran each class to level 20 in a very short period of time.

  12. These drives sit vertically instead of horizontally? Does one need anything extra to install them? I've been looking for another hdd myself and I think this is where I am going, but I don't want to get it home and find out it won't go into my case.

Looks like just the way the data is written is different. These still install normally? That is what I am getting but could use some confirmation.

  13. We have 21" CRTs so we do everything in 1280x1024.

I hope that will be in 2D, the 6800 can´t even pull a smooth framerate on 1280x1024 when it comes to the 2005/2006 games. The 7900GT, good choice b/c I don´t see any thing happen soon with DX 10 carts.

Desktop is 1280x1024, gaming is done in 1024x768.

Got the ASRock board and AMD today. Everything is working so far. Updating WoW to see if I get any problems there.

  14. This is awesome for WoW when I hit tab and end up hitting caps.

Any idea if it is possible to map a key function to two keys at the same time? My IBM X40 laptop has no Window's key but instead a function key. I don't want to simply remap the function key to the Window's key, but rather make Window's key = Fn +Ctrl.
