  1. @Dagonet' --- Now that's classy! --- I'm using the Samurize sidebar by halfwayglad. I didn't really like the orange calendar background so I recolored it with a black gradient. I uploaded it here temporarily if you want it and can use it. ------------------------------------ My "pseudo-Vista" desktop...
  2. No I didn't make it. Just found a msg board when searching earlier and saw a post by someone with Big Image Graphics. Got it from him. (Someone else sent it to him.) Just thought I'd help make it more available. They had this up earler:
  3. To my darling husband, Before you return from your overseas trip I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately it's not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me. I was coming home from Wal-Mart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent, but the pick up fortunately came to a halt when it bumped into your car. I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture for you. I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again. Your loving wife. XXX See photo

    256 RAM

I too use all freeware for security with WinXP. Avast and ZA along with the normal anti-spyware scans. Use Opera to browse. Have been known to "SWD" (surf while drunk). Often suprised the next day when the scans came up with nothing, (Kaspersky online scan does as well). My wife has an older laptop with 256 RAM, uses AVG and ZA, Firefox with NoScript for her. Runs fine, not really that much slower than mine with 512mb RAM. I don't expect her to have any serious problems. (That's what I was originally going to post, but...) -------------- After reading back through this thread from Pidiot's first post on. It is completely obvious to me that the intentions were to cleverly incite a flame war about Windows and Linux. It started out with a seemingly innocent (and legitimate) question and then dragged on with continued questions to instigate a flame war and culminate with the intended promotion of Linux. Personally, I don't like that and wouldn't expect to see that here. As I'm sure many members here do, I use them both and like them both. Pidiot, most folks here already know about the security differences between Windows and Linux. People have their reasons for using Windows. That's all there is to it. What gave it away to me was the statement that Norton found "2963" (post #5) viruses that the others did not. That's impossible. So there's not only the intended bashing of Windows (which is so common it's a complete bore) but the bashing of quality security freeware as well. What also caught my attention is that anyone who knows enough about pc's to install Linux and mount a FAT32 Windows partition (actually it's better just to make a FAT32 storage partition to swap files between the two OSs), would know that SP2 wouldn't "speed up a computer". What convinced me Pidiot, is the way you went back and forth between speaking knowledgeably and inexperienced. There was some time wasted here Pidiot, by knowledgeable people honestly (if not naively), trying to help. I think that's very inconsiderate. I only ask for help when I'm completely confounded and I can't find what I'm looking for by searching. I'm nowhere near being an expert, but only posted for help on forums a few times. I'd feel bad if I didn't try other avenues first. I have NEVER known that to be true. In fact it's usually the other way around. I read through the posts and did not see anyone insulting you, Pidiot. I guess you didn't think anyone would catch on, did you Pidiot. --- Moderators: if you think my assessment is wrong then pardon me, and edit or remove this post as you see fit. I really don't think I'm wrong though.
  6. XnView? Can't say I know exactly what you're talking about, but check it's features or formats pages. I saw both of the extensions you mentioned in there.
  7. Norton is quite good in one way.... If you're a computer novice and use Norton products; you end up learning a lot about computers. Seriously though, usually their support pages just entail uninstalling and reinstalling to increasing degrees. I finally used my WinXP CD and took the 'Format and Install' option.
  8. Thanks DL. I appreciate the comments. I found the group of photos I mentioned online at jibjab.com. They're really good.
  9. My springtime desk... Homemade visual style mostly done just using ResEdit, (used Brushed 3.5 Visual Style by hills-roppongi as template). Homemade Desktop Sidebar skin. Wallpaper was in an email "When God Paints" I think. -- --
  10. I guess no one likes the olive green!

  14. Hey, Dagonet', I don't suppose you remember and can tell me where you got the Metal Vista skin. I made numerous searches for it and only came up with a screenshot at skinbase.org. I even went to Raymi's homepage (here) and only found a screenshot there as well. (I can't really read it.) Thanks!

  16. Tonnelier Its been awhile since I looked at this thread. Did you ever get it figured out? You should be able to just right-click on the "Robotz.inf" (Setup Information) file and hit "install" and the .wav files should go to your "%SystemRoot%\Media" folder (i.e. "C:\Windows\Media") and then would be accessible in your "Control Panel" - "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices" to change the sound scheme. You could then just delete all the files that were extracted into your Programs folder, including the .wav files, Setup Information (Robotz.inf) and the Readme. Shouldn't be a problem. (You could always just extract the files again in an empty folder to see exactly what was there)
  17. The Lindsay Lights one kinda looked like it was professionally done. I wonder if the first one was. My mom said that they showed part of the first one on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and it was somewhere in Ohio, u.s.a. I recieved the link just to download it ---- http://members.cox.net/transam57/lights.wmv --- via email. thought I'd post it here.
  18. You can get the individual files from that link I posted ---- CD ROM Extras.... ---- About halfway down that page you should see the sound schemes (under "Multimedia") Robotz.exe is there. btw: after you put the .exe file in a empty folder (doesn't matter where), double-click it and a ms-dos window will open and give instructions.
  19. Hey all, I'm new here, but wanted to post my desktop. clean and dirty: B) (Due credit goes to the...) Authors.... Blinds skin: "Night Mare" ---- by Night Train --- (the buttons and scrollbars glow --- pretty cool, I think!) icons: Gort , JamesT and Ikonic (skinbase.org) Moon icon: G. Maheux ------ http://www.iconarchive.com/icon/sci-fi/space_by_iconfactory/ --- that was hard to find! wallpaper: "After the Fall" by kenwas (wincustomize.com)
  20. I found the old Windows 95 Plus! CD sound schemes (Utopia, Robotz, Musica, and Jungle) at: CD-ROM Extras for Microsoft Windows 95 Upgrade I take it that Microsoft doesn't mind if people get them. They installed ok, but are missing a uninstall string to allow being uninstalled thru Add\Remove. Not a big deal.
