  1. In short... no! Setupldr.bin just points to your boot files which can either be part of the I386 directory or some other four character directory at the root of the disc. This is why you create a boot folder using 'winnt32.exe /noreboot (or /cmdcons)'. To specify where your actual i386 directory has been moved to, you have to edit this line in the txtsetup.sif contained in your boot folder: SetupSourcePath = "\" If you wanted to specify that your I386 directory was contained in \XPPC\ then you would edit the line to this: SetupSourcePath = "\XPPC\" All this has been covered in Flyakite's Guide if you want more info. 2. Well I feel really confident now . I read that as well afew days ago, Parted Magic is now on my disc instead of the GParted LiveCD for the time being.
  3. @Jet Just an update! I'm still on the case of creating a multipurpose Slax and I've downloaded most of the packages/tarballs for GParted. There's quite a lot when you get stuck into it, more than I expected. I'm gonna finish up my current project then take this on separately since I think it's gonna take a while to perfect. So, be prepared for an onslaught of questions sometime in the next week . Cya
  4. Sorry I can't help you anymore. I know plenty about CDShell but very little about Vista's Bootmgr!
  5. chain /VISTA/VISTA.DAT
  6. That's one phat disc your planning there, are you sure all that will fit on one DVD, Slackware's nearly a full DVD for a start? Unless there's cheatcodes available for each distro so that you can specify a different location then you'll have to stick with what you've got. The (K)Ubuntu disc comes with a lot of crap on it, if I remember right you need these folders: .disk (tag folder, you have to have it) casper (debian live folder, contains filesystem, kernel and ramdisk, you have to have it) dists (needed for customisation, you might be able to remove it) pool (needed for customisation, you might be able to remove it) preseed (needed for customisation, you might be able to remove it) I've never downloaded Slackware because of the size of it and I can't remember Gentoo's disc structure. You may come unstuck having Debian and Kubuntu on the same disc if they both use the Casper live system. Hope this helps a little.
  7. Only reason I ask is I've always used Ryan's update pack and WMP10 addon but I'm gonna change things this time and go for Xable's light pack and your WMP11. Thinking logically about this, I suppose it doesn't really matter cos I can't see that Xables pack is gonna affect anything to do with WMP anyway. Oops, think I just answered my own question here . Thanks for your response anyway.
  8. Boooggy, would you recommend I integrate WMP11 before or after an update pack? Thanks.
  9. If your using Windows take a look at CDImage GUI, all the relevant switches are set for you just need to update the locations.
  10. CDShell and BCDW are no longer supported by their authors and BCDW 2.01 is a hack of the original. This is the primary reason why I switched to isolinux, which is still in active development! However, if I had to choose one of them (and I did at one point) I'd use CDShell because elements of BCDW already exist in it as well many other boot loaders like diskemu, memdisk and isolinux (although a very old version). Sorry I can't help you more but if you search this forum you'll find a lot of info about both of them. Flyakites Guide is based around CDShell and there is a fairly recent thread (about six months old or so) that explains how to use images for menu's. Cya
  11. I can't remember what it's called or who made it but you can find it somewhere in the forums. I know that doesn't help very much but search this forum and the Windows customisation forums for autorun programs and you should find it. I hope that vaguely helps . Edit: Oops should have read your question properly CDShell has the ability to show splash screens i.e. pictures instead of text menus. I never did it so I can't help you that much but basically your gonna have to create the pics yourself to achieve each menu. In my opinion it's simpler to use vesamenu with isolinux, check out this thread
  12. You say the nicest things . Actually, since your asking, it works really well. I've had a chance to try it out on a laptop that just didn't like standard xconf and it's fixed Virtual Box going spastic as well. Thanks for the heads up on the framebuffer options. I need to add some options for failsafes as well, most of the laptops I meet everyday need at least 'acpi=off'. Thanks for your help on this, I'm just fed up with using multiple livecd's (even though I have them on one DVD) just so I can use one extra app that another doesn't have or find that the one I need wont boot when I need it. Slax (nearly) works on everything I encounter so it makes since to have everything under one roof, so to speak. Anyway I off to check out live-modules.org. Cya.
  13. I did go looking and I found similar posts relating to this issue, I think it depends on what hardware he has available to fix the problem. I'll give it ago though and see what happens.
  14. I was half way through messing about with Reconstructor when I decided to give PCLOS ago, needless to say I never turned back. Ubuntu is good and all but PCLOS just has the edge for me. The repos may not have as many apps but what apps there are, suit my needs. Unlike Ubuntu I only needed to search out one app to install that wasn't already available, Virtual Box. Saying that, the open source version is actually available but I needed the full version. On top of that I found Ubuntu to be too restrictive and switching to Kubuntu in a hope that KDE's more complex nature would fix this didn't help either. All in all and without rambling on for pages (which I could do) PCLOS is just easier to work with, try it you might like it Oh, and yes I've added it to my disc and it took all of five minutes, if you look at the disc structure you'll see why. I wish all distro's were as easy. I'd really like to get into this, I've already added modules for p7zip, unrar, Firefox and Krusader. Although Krusader needs some libs to work which I'm gonna need to track down and I need to add some extensions and settings to Firefox. Once I've finished that I'm gonna tackle the progs you mentioned. I'm just not really sure about where to start with all those dependencies. I'm pretty sure GParted doesn't work with all those filesystems out of the box and I'm gonna need Gnome libs for it as well . Ho-hum I'll have fun learning anyway and since your back in town be prepared for lots of 'whats this', 'how do you do this' and lots of other stupid questions coming your way I'm already using 3.50 I just wanted your xconf2 module and settings to add to my menu, thanks for the tip though. My major bug bare with isolinux at the minute is localboot/chain.c32 not booting my sata drives. I'm pretty sure it worked when I had Windows installed and CDShell never had a prob either but every time I go to boot grub it restarts my machine. I'm sure it'll be fixed in time though, I'll just need to remember to eject the disc for now instead. Right, I'm off to fix Krusader. Cya.
  15. Thanks No I've ditched Ubuntu for PCLOS as an installed OS. I use Slax mainly for recovering files for dumb a** customers that have never thought about the word 'backup'. Slax is good because it's free and if anyone nicks my my CD from work it doesn't matter it's also small enough to use copy2ram on nearly every PC/Laptop I meet. Ideally I'd like to add Gparted and Clonezilla to Slax but I think I'm asking a lot of myself there, maybe in time though. Edit: I do believe they are the same.
  16. It's okay, you can't help it... Jokes aside... I copied it into virtual box and extracted it that way. I must of been having an off day yesterday cos thats what I usually do . Incidentally, Virtual Box works much better under Linux than Windows. I never got a long with the whole file sharing idea before now but it works very well. Memory seems to go a long way as well, 512mb for VBox, 512mb for my sys and about five or six things going on between the two and still no lag on my aging rig . Yes as you can tell I'm loving the whole Linux thing, it's like having a new toy . With regards to Slax modules, I take it that if theres a Slackware package for the program I want I can just convert and use provided all the dependencies are met. Which brings me on to my next question: How the hell do I go about figuring out what is dependant of what without installing Slackware in the first place, which I'm not doing? Anyway I'm off to build a firefox module. Cya.
  17. Hi Jet, long time no post . Since I'm now a 100% Linux user, which is in some part your fault (and I'm not complaining), could you provide your sfx as a plain archive, pleeeeeese . I've been toying with the idea of learning how to make modules for Slax 6 myself. At the moment I only really want small things like p7zip and unrar and starting small is probably a good idea anyway, do you have any tips? Later
  18. Thanks. I realised why the lower bar is so small now (640x480) so I'll probably leave it alone. Looks nice with the title from the Homepage theme though, minimal but effective!
  19. Quick question... In the classic theme where can I edit the height of the bottom bar? It doesn't help that I'm semi-blind when it comes to Java so excuse me if this seems like a stupid question.
  20. Here's my variant on Royale (see attached). I posted some of the parts for this previously as an update for the Glossy Theme in WPI 5.1. Hope you like the completed article, if anyone has a better title pic I'd be happy to update this. -kof94 Royale.7z
  21. @Siginet I'm intrigued, I might have to take a look at PowerPacker myself. I have a another question though: As you more than likely know, the MassStorage DriverPack can cause a lot of problems for some controllers when integrated into textmode setup. I'm considering an idea that consists of one I386 folder (edit: without textmode drivers) on my disc providing source files and two boot folders, one with textmode drivers intergrated and one without. By my reckoning, you should only need the textmode drivers in the boot folder anyway! If this works it means you would only need one I386 folder on your disc providing two driver options though the boot folders. I know I could do this with two complete setups and using cdimage/mkisofs to write duplicate files once... da da da... but thats just boring Anyway hope this makes sense, what do you think (being an integrator guru and all that)?
  22. Each version of XP (VLK/Retail/OEM) is defined by the PID in the setupp.ini file found in your I386 folder (I could elaborate on this but it's easier to Google it) and there are also some variences in files found in VLK, Pro and Home to enable additional features. Going by the placement of files and factoring in the variences in txtsetup.sif and dosnet.inf I'd say your probably best sticking with what you've got. I know it's a pain but if you really have to strive for completeness then your stuck with it . I have to applaud you for your patience though, after all, I'm sure you do have a purpose for all those versions
  23. UBCD refers to Ultimate Boot CD which is a multi-boot CD containing many DOS tools good for diagnostics amongst other things. BartPE refers to any project using pebuilder which includes The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4Win). Hope that helps.
  24. Here's my guide from a while back. The search feature can help a lot you know
