Jono, that is truely cool
But I downloaded a bootdisk, partitioned and formatted the virtual disk. I am most grateful that I have not forgotten all old DOS trix
So now I am up and trying again. This time with the latest version of VMware Workstation which is a new release and it looks great and fast!

I believe You.
But I still need both drive C and D during the installation - and drive D is not formatted yet...

Want to try redirecting the "Documents and Settings" folder to a virtual D: (drive).
Have only one PC so I use Virtual PC or Vmware - and I have some "small" problems...
In the setup of XP I have a possibility of deciding how my (virtual) harddrive should be partitioned - fine I create 2 partitions - But I can only format one - the one to install XP on.
And the installation + winnt.sif and main_batch.cmd requires 2 (both C and D).
So - the installation is terminated.
If anyone has a creative suggestion - please do not hesitate.
Thanx in advance

There are some programs which let You change the direction of Your Favorites.
I took a regshot before and one after. Here is the comparison.
Before;
HKEY_USERS\XXX\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Favorites: "C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Favoriter\"
HKEY_USERS\XXX\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites: "C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Favoriter\"
After;
HKEY_USERS\XXX\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Favorites: "C:\Test"
HKEY_USERS\XXX\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites: "C:\Test"
And it worked just fine. The question is if this works when changed with a regfile?
Just a simple suggestion/question from

Got my first unattendent install to work
A very silent install, some regtweaks, a lot of disabled services and some installed programs 2
Acrobat Reader 6.0
DirectX 9.0b
Messenger 6.1
MediaPlayer 9.0
Nero 5.5.10.42
And at last a nice reboot. All burnt to a CD-R.
Now its time to finetune it all using RegSnap and adding the changes to my regtweaks!
Have a nice night

Bit curious? Have You changed Your code?
Find it a bit different compared to Your code in the beginning of this discussionstring.
Then You used the "main_batch.cmd" and now You have it in "installs.cmd" .
But since I´m new to these methods - I can only ask - and learn!

Looks really nice!
Question; Is there a complete list of commands that is OK to use in the winnt.sif?
And which command go under which heading?
Curious as usual

Hello; I don´t want to be rude - but I found many excellent things in this forum just by looking at the old posts - especially the pinned one´s at the top
I also found a great link http://www.MSFN.org/unattended/ whick answered many of my questions.
So - as they say - most things are "out there" it´s just about finding them.

My idea was to try an easy one - the "extra" thing I was going to try was making an "silent" install of a videodriver (45.23_win2kxp_international_whql.exe).
I followed the instructions from www.MSFN.org/unattended.
Result - everything worked fine - except for the videodriver - afterwards I checked everything again and guess what I found?
There is an inconsistency between the the different pages at this site
On the Resources page, from which I copied the winnt.sif it says as follows
OemPnPDriversPath="\Drivers\Catalyst3_6\2KXP_INF;Drivers\Catalyst3_6\TV_Capture\WDM_XP"
That backslash does not appear on any of the other pages...
Question - can this be the reason that my silent install of the videodriver didn´t work?
Thanx in advance

Found an interesting little program called RegSnap which monitors the following:
- changes to the registry
- win.ini
- system.ini
If one only wants to look at registry changes RegShot i good, simple and free.

Not so happy with Acrobat Reader 6.0 - It´s really heavy and it doesn´t unload from memory when I close it down.
Does anyone know any good alternative program for reading pdf files.

Can anyone recommend a tool for supervising/monitoring an installation of a program in XP?
Ie which files are added, which are changed, new and changed registry entries, etc...

No, actually they are somewhat older than that.

After reading most posts on this forum I would like to ask some questions. Some may be a bit silly - but just so I have understood it all
Will this upcomming security roll up of hotfixes make all the hotfixes redundant?
Is there a save way to slipstream all updates in with the original XP just as I slipstream SP1 togeteher with my original XP?
If I want to add programs in my unattended install - can I keep them on another partition and call upon them when I need them to install? If I do that I can always have the lastest version without a remake of the XP install CD.
Thanx in Advance

And - please don´t laugh too much over my questions... I will improve!

Nice finding You - You asked for a short intro and here it is.
My two sons are probably You age...
I have been taking MS products apart since 1990...
And now I would like to learn how to make a good unattended
install of Windows XP.
Thanx in advance
