  1. He problly has a driver issue to get a yellow question mark. that'll cause it to seem like it's connected but it's really not. I had that before where I put the wrong driver in for an older model wireless and it said it's connected but I can't recive anything on my laptop.
  2. you may have a driver issue. I've seen that before where something goes wrong your driver or in your bios and you see the hard drive less then what it is. I think the max that you can see without the driver would be like 120 beyond that you need to get drivers to control your hard drive or else it doesn't know all of it. If you get that to work then your data should show back up. If not you can get a program from download.com and it would read the hard drive and retrive your data for you.
  3. he's probly gotten a bad memory stick or something, because i've used 128 to run windows xp pro and it's fine. A little slow only, but still report 128. So if he's got 256 and only reads 50 then he probly did something wrong. Try looking into the bios and see if it reads it as a 256 or even on boot up.
  4. for what os? And how do you want to do it? because your asking too general a question. like does it already have an os Installed? new hard drive your trying to format? Because on xp and 2000 you can use the cd it's self to partition. or you can try partition magic.
  5. I'd rather go to frys than PC club. nothing personal but to me if your buying from PC club then you are paying too much for dvd+rw. from my experience they are the most expensive out there. As for me personally, I get mines from the computer show so it's cheaper if you can go there. I usually get 100 for 18.99 - 21.99
  6. try setting the boot order, to boot from the hard drive first instead of the floppy.
  7. Have you tried using safe mode and then restoring? Or try using a different video card to force it to change it's settings temporily?
  8. I'd go with WD personally, cause I've never had any trouble with them. But then it might just be me, cause i've used maxtor and sea gate as well and not have any trouble also. of course i've probly never had them long enough. unless your talking old stuff. like a 6 gig. then I've had one in my e-machine (maxtor I think) t hat's lasted me for about 10 - 12 years now.
  9. Wouldn't know which one it is. Since you know that it is something that is disabled, what you should do is enable all of them and checking to see if it still does the same thing. if it doesn't then make a list and slowly disable one or two of them at a time and restarting your computer or logging off until you find the one that caused it. if your lucky you might find it on the first few tries. If not you may have to repeat the process for a while.
  10. I was wondering if you are trying to share the same file or different ones? I mean if their different files you could probly just set up a shared folder on the server and map the folder to the other computers. Keeping them connected at all times even when It restarts. As for printer it does have an option of sharing it. Which I was planning to get to until my brother p***ed me off and I said Forget it. but I know that it's possible to share printers and has that option to chose from, when you install the printer driver.
  11. I was just wondering does it really take you 2-3 min to boot up? for me it takes 30 - 40 sec only.
  12. Depends on if you ever use firewire, or consider using it in the future, (planning on any video recording stuff?). If not then go with usb their easier to deal with, all plug - n - play. As for me i've never used firewire before and have no need for it even though I have it on both my desktop and laptop. You could always find something on ebay for less + they do have 4 port usb types, if your interested. Hope that helps.
  13. Well I gotta see what the man did first. I mean did he even tryied to call coustomer service first? Did they bs him or something. I mean We should get all the details before we take sides right? From what I read he's a bit too excessive. I would think that if his console is mess up he should get a replacement or refund, but to demand the recall of all the units may be too much to ask for. If it was that it was catching on fire or dangerous in some way then yea (TOTAL RECALL). But if it freezes only then it's just a little down time. if he didn't like it ----> get a refund and get something else. I mean It's definetly still under warranty since it came out in like how many days only.
  14. Hi, I'm not sure where to stick this so I stuck it in the general questions area. I have a buddy that runs a video store, and he's been getting alot of coustemers, but they have to wait in line for a while to check out the movies because he only has one really old computer to run it. I am not even sure what os he's using just that it's windows. So what he wanted to do was have two computers running at the same time with the same programs. So that you would be able to see who checked out movies or return them, on either one of the computers. Pretty much like block buster where you can go to any counter rather then just one counter to check out. Any software or suggestion would be greatful. Espicelly of it is upgrade able to xp. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
  15. Don't get mad at me for this..... I'm a newbie at this but I was wondering has anyone gotten very fustrated when they are troubleshooting something and can't get it to work. but when the go to the help menu and stuff and it said ask your admininistrator etc..., but the trouble is that you are the "administrator". So are you suppose to ask yourself again?
