  1. the format command does just that it formats the drive. While there is writable locations on the drive that are not affected by a format and this information could be stored a standard format does not do this. In the case of servers this information is normally stored in nvram on the drive but even then the process of formatting has to be done by a particular utility so that that information was written to the nvram.
  2. It is saying that some other update has already integrated into the source.
  3. On a normal end user machine no. On some mid to high end serves maybe.
  4. all you should have to do is include the windows 32-bit drivers for your nic(s). and then use the 32-bit version of Ghost and the Ghostcast server (Ghost32.exe and ghstsrv32.exe, might be wrong on the ghostcast exe name) Copy them to the cd as described in the appendix of the guide and launch from the command window and use as you did before.
  5. From my guide you have worked through: (You may run into issues with chipset and usb controller drivers on some systems.)
  6. @ Iceangel89 - Page 6 step 6 You should be able to remount the wim and copy those files. the copy the wim back into the iso folder and recreate the iso.
  7. It depends upon how complicated a password it is. The longer and more convoluted the password is the less likely the son could crack the HASH. It's not easy but it can be done. Also depends upon how technical the son is, there are instructions online but not for the noob.
  8. what happens if you remove a drive from a target machine put it into the machine that is complete and do a disk to disk image? Does it boot properly then? Could be TrueImage Home 11 doesn't like Vista? Don't know I use either Norton Ghost or WIM's for all of my imaging.
  9. You seem to have two different issues here, you might want to split them to two different topics. In regards to WIM images, they are just like any other image. In general for XP the are hardware dependent. There are ways to make them more hardware independent For information on making a PR disk and capturing a wim image see the guide in the WinPE forum here: http://www.msfn.org/board/GUIDE-Creating-W...nt-t101383.html As far as you problem with the laptop, is this a problem with an image you put on it, or is this a problem that has developed while the system was in use?
  10. Either you have to add the other account to have permissions to the folder(s), or authenticate as with that users id and credentials before copying.
  11. If you want licensed software buy it.

    updates

You can get them using Windows update downloader, serach here for it. Or use the Update Catalog through Microsoft. One post is enough, pick a forum and post it there once and you'll get and answer.
  13. is the driver you are using Vista compatible?
  14. We need some more information from you on this.
  15. check your device manager after connecting the camera and see if it is listed there or if it shows up as an unknown device.
  16. If you use a direct integration method that does not need an answer file (winnt.sif) then yes. or you can use the F6 floppy method to add additional drivers to a cd without an answer file.
  17. Using repair is not available on an unattended cd.
  18. turning the guest account on is not normally recommended. Turn off simple file sharing instead and then use admin or standard accounts.
  19. maybe. I'd make a bartpe cd, or ubcd before proceeding. You should be able to do a repair from your standard sp2 cd if required.
  20. Check here for more information on Small business licenses and discounts. Read fast. http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/buy...are/new-pc.mspx
  21. @NorseLaQuet - Did you try this? or check for the pidkey value jcarle found in the registry on his machine?
  22. Looks like that should work too. That is basically the manual procedure of what I listed above.
  23. It is probably running before a service is available for the script to run. It might work better to run the registry version of the script that just rights the new name to the registry. (reboot required for it to take full effect) Set shell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Shell.RegWrite "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName\ComputerName", NewName Shell.RegWrite "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NV Hostname", NewName
  24. If I had to guess it sounds like you are missing a driver for your network card.
  25. Try this: In the device manager open Computer right click on the Standard PC, ACPI PC or whatever is listed. select properties Slect the driver tab click update driver select 'no not this time' click next select install from a list.... click next select don't search... click next select ACPI Multiprocessor PC click next if it is not listed, get out your original cd, you will need to expand the hal.inf from the i386 folder to your computer and click have disk. then select the above. continue on as if installing any other hardware device and reboot.
