  1. It doesn't seem to work for display properties. Maybe it doesn't use ImageLists to store and paint their icons...
  2. To improve the icons in the "Folder Options" dialog create an empty file in C:\WINNT (where Win2000 is installed) and rename it to explorer.exe.32bitimgl.
  3. I don't have time/inspiration. Any specific ideas? Maybe you could include an installer that automatically uninstalls previous versions and create *.exe.32bitimgl files for explorer.exe (more colorful sysem tray + 32-bit icons in folder options dialog) and for taskmgr.exe. EDIT: installer could create cleanmgr.exe.32bitimgl as well
  4. Same here, and I am using ATI (Radeon X1950 Pro). Outpost tray icon is wrecked (as are Nero install icons) and I have folders of XP icons that all have very jagged black edges. Strangely, a couple of icons in the control panel seem to be displaying correctly, but I may be mistaken as I can't be sure how they looked before (I did not pay them that much attention). I have cleared icon cache, unregistered DLL and re-registered, but it's still the same unfortunately. I've noticed that you CAN'T check "show icons with all possible colors" in desktop properties. When you register this dll, that box is unchecked. Have you re-checked it after applying the dll register? You'd set ShellIconBPP back to 16 instead of 32, actually disabling Win2K Revolutions Pack
  5. Great work, Tihiy! Although I have migrated to XP a long time ago I still have this older PC I love playing arround with, and Windows 2000 is its main OS. Now I have one question: does Windows 2000 Revolutions Pack enable the use of 32-bit alpha-blended icons in the system tray as well or we still have to patch explorer.exe to get anything better than 16 colors?
  6. Did you stop the device before removing? I'm asking because XP doesn't complain when removing devices directly but in 98/ME/2k you need to stop them first using the system tray icon, and if you do not do that, in Windows 98, you'll get a BSOD.
  7. It seems that MSN 7.5 uses kernel functions only avaliable on more recent operational systems, so Win 95/98 are out of question. I was able to install it on Win2k (not the download mess.be because I wanted to have MSN 7.5 in brazilian portuguese) by downloading part of the Win 2k3 Plataform Resource Kit, then installing Orca MSI editor and changing every XP check... Maybe someone could do this and try to allow it to install on ME How to bypass: to make it install on 2k using Orca msi editor I replaced every check (3 or 4, if I remember well) VersionNT whatever math operation 501 with VersionNT whatever math operation 500. After all the VersionNT check there is a (Version9x) no signal nor any compare, because Version9x itself is a fake condition if running a NT based system. To make it bypass the OS detection simply erase the two checks (VersionNT and Version9x) every time they appear. Doing this it won't complain even when installing it on Win95 (which does not mean it will work)
  8. Were WinME the first one to be installed? because it should... You can do this easily by editing the hidden+system file Boot.ini located in the root directory of the boot partition and add ME as an option... Or you can get a better boot loader.
  9. Maybe it is something about the Graphics Card? It seems that Vista puts part of the functions that handles the interface in the Graphics Card, and the Vista driver for NVidea Geforce cards does not support it yet??
  10. Once I had a problem with my system randomly hanging... I found out that it was a small issue with my PCChips M810LR and my Nvidea Geforce 4... To be more specific, the motherboard was telling the NVidea drivere that it can handle AGP FastWrites and, in fact, this seems to be buggy in that board, so I disabled it ussing RivaTuner and my system turned to be stable like a charm... Maybe you have a similar low level hardware incompatibility?
  11. The way it is written it seems that the second line, which seem to abort the policy and ask for XP, will be executed in Nt 4 and NT5.0 (2000), NT 5.1 (XP), NT 5.2 (2003) and even Vista (NT 6?)... Shouldn't it look like: #if version <= 4 ????? Sorry if I'm wrong
  12. Problems with Explorer... I think I used to have problems with it when I used Win98... It seems that browseui.dll and browselc.dll form IE6 (both with or without SP1) has a problem: explorer starts taking over 1 minute to create, finalize copying and other operations. I read somewhere tha copying these two files from ie 5.5 solves everything (but you will not be able to turn on/off the "lock toolbar", so decide which one you prefer before replacing the files or you can search the net and find what key you nered to modify in the register to toogle the option)
  13. I have a question that kept me from upgrading 2k to XP in my home computer for quite a long time. I know that in XP, viewing folders like Web Pages has been replaced with that Left Panel full of common tasks. The problem is: I siumply want my old informative panel there, I trully like it and I never use the XP left panel in my work pc... I know I can simple disable it and go back to the classic style, but then I lose the picture preview and my custom http templates for music and video folders. Is there any way to change just this aspect of the XP interface? I know already how to change for a single folder (by manually editing the desktop.ini file), but how to go back everything? maybe replacing the DLL reponsable of that with the older form 2k and register it?
  14. Do not know if this is already included but what about that unnoficial fix (it seemed like a hack to me) that enables Win2k explorer.exe display hi color icons in the system tray?
  15. Some weeks ago (when I used 98 - now I use 2000, my favorite windows) I had a very annoying slowdown problem. In fact, after moving some folders and/or files, every operation in explorer (except browsing though folders, but it can happen) started takin so much time that it seemed that the system hung. I found out that this problem is related to Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher. The solution is to copy browseui.dll and browselc.dll from Internet Explorer 5.5 to Windows\system folder in DOS mode For details, go to Windows 98 hangs or locks up when deleting files
