  1. i checked the cable, seating, bios and monitor. video card is definitely going, glad it didn't completely go, because it could be really bad for your system if it did. thanks for the replies. $140 Chaintech nvidia 7600gs 512mb definitely was too good to be true!
  2. turned on the pc today and the screen started inverting colors at bootup. The disk I booted was actually a linux disk, but i usually run and prefer windows. Just a question before i go trying a new monitor, is this monitor related or video card? And don't say you don't know until you test it.
  3. why does the psu's power switch turn the computer on if flipped off/on?
  4. I just built a new computer and I seemed to have made the mistake of buying two vantec tornado 80mm fans. With the fans being so loud, no one in the house can sleep. My question is, can anyone recommend the most quiet 80mm fans anywhere? Currently I'm running open case but I'm so afraid something will ever fall on my CPU fan that I'm frantic for a solution. I need quiet so that I can sleep, but I also need to stay cool! Thanks for the help.
  5. I just switched from vga to dvi, and my monitor keeps blacking out, I even updated the monitor drivers and it switched to digital. How can I fix this? Will re-installing my video card drivers fix this?
  6. but that's my whole point, is that it's on, but not really on. it's on a setting of 1, and a logitech low accel setting is equal to 4096. It must add some type of tracking feature, and I'm wondering why that tracking feature, or whatever it is, isn't enabled on the off setting, because it should be.
  7. right, and thats my whole point, is i can have acceleration on, but regedit it to be virtually off, or a setting of 1, when a low setting is 4096, which would translate to maybe a pixel. Maybe the servers are set up to give those with mouse accel better play?
  8. yeah thanks for the needless and wasteful reply. you're obviously not following, so just go ahead and turn this thread into another babble fight thread like the rest.
  9. Let me start by saying that I have been studying mouse acceleration online from any know source. The reason I've been studying mouse acceleration so much is because I play a video game, counter-stike, and I play horrible without the mouse acceleration. To me it's senseless to want the mouse to increase speed over time. Regaurdless, I've figured out a way to enable the mouse acceleration, but turn the acceleration value to 1, so that the acceleration is virtually not there. It was defaulted at 4096. Okay so figure this, with this setting at 1, virtually off, I'm able to play extremely well in a counter-strike, and get great shot registry, but the second that i turn the acceleration off, and use windows default mouse drivers, I immediately get aweful registration in the video game. So someone tell me why this is. And immagine out of all 1 million people that play that game a day, and want to play it good, and hate mouse acceleration, and were completely frustrated like me. Imagine a solution, and them being satisfied. So i ask you, the reader, why is it that the mouse responds better this way? On wikipedia it says something about acceleration only works well when it works with the mickey in windows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_mouse I believe that this is a possible reason... "In the absence of acceleration, the Mickey corresponds to the number of pixels moved on the computer screen." Is it that with the acceleration, the mouse is using a different axis? also do any mice have this great registry without having to have mouse acceleration on? because if i use my logitech drivers, and i set the acceleration to low, i play superb in the game and i get great registry, but the second that i switch them to off, i play aweful. Is the logitech driver switching something off, when the acceleration is turned off? Please let me know of any mice that have this great registry without having acceleration on. Also please let me know if you know what is different in the way the mouse is working or the way it registers with acceleration as opposed to the way it doesn't without. Thank You.
  10. probably high time i just learn it / get used to it.
  11. is it possible to dock those side bars and tools inside the program? also is there an option similar to the enhance photo option in psp?
  12. the transition is so weird. I don't know how to do anything in photoshop. It's driving me nuts. I'll have to relearn it.
  13. that's the same problem i get with Norton. Maybe I will just call them. Did you read what I wrote before when I wrote that on the website it says tht Avast is a 60 day trial? Did I read it wrong, and which version do you download that is free?
  14. i'll have to check into it when i get my bills paid off, but yeah, it said symantec is using like 50,000 kb amongst all it's services being ran. Also, I thought it was viruses I had, but it was spyware. My adaware program wasn't the current version, and it wasn't updating properly from the site, so it wasn't scanning properly. does everyone really hate symantec this much? the only reason i do is because every time i load the anti virus i pay 50 bucks for a year it tells me i have to buy a new version!
  15. Can we talk anti-virus software? I'm currently running Symantec AntiVirus version 9.0.0.338, and an online scanner found a bunch of viruses. Before I was running Norton, and the auto protection was always finding stuff. It seems like this version isn't working as well as it should. Can anyone walk me through this?
  16. resize your desktop, maybe its hidden. maybe there are no shortcuts in the folder. search for quick launch and a couple folders will come up, make sure there are shortcuts in them.
  17. do you know how to move the page file to the front of the computer?
  18. i'm considering using no page file. is this a bad idea? if i do so will the page file delete itself? i have 2 gigs of ram on a dual core 2.4. what happens if there is no page file and there is more data being stored than that in the ram?
  19. I just built a new computer. Dual-core AMD Athlon 4600, 2gbs of G.Skill Ram, Chaintech Pci-e 512mb Geforce 7600 Gs Video Card, etc. My problems started about Three weeks ago, when the pc wasn't always turning on. 1 in 7 times it would turn on. So I updated my Bios. Now it turns on every time. Restling over different Windows installations, I somehow settled upon the installation I'm on now. After numerous blue screens of death, bsod, because of 0xA errors, 0x8E, 0x7E, etc. I've done my fair share of homework, searching around, and I am convinced it is the video card drivers. Without the drivers installed, I don't crashes like, nv4_mini.sys, irql, reset shadow memory, etc. I am on Windows Xp Pro 32bit, and am wondering, has anyone figured out a safe driver to run without blue screen errors, or memory access errors, or any of the above, for any of the new nvidia chipsets, such as the 7600 Gs? Do I need to upgrade to Vista Beta? Will that even solve the problem? Please help.
  20. no i don't, and i've had windows running stable all day long until i got home and tried to install steam and i got a win32k.sys blue screen error. any ideas?
  21. i just built a new pc and i'm able to boot into safe mode and enable vga mode. i've uninstalled my video card drivers along with the software, but upon the normal windows xp boot i get the 0x7E bluescreen and a reboot. can anyone help, or has anyone found a work around for this problem? should i install vista beta?
  22. ah i can't explain the sometimes no display, but power on. i doubt its the fan controller setting.
  23. i have a question. if a computer is to continually reboot itself on windows load, will the cmos clear itself, eventually?
