  1. i guess i'm asking which part of it to edit. %USERPROFILE% seems like a value not a replacable string.
  2. okay and the definition of personal there is %USERPROFILE%\My Documents
  3. i thought it wouldn't have the same powers then.
  4. I rename the path to the other name and restart and it goes back to my name for the my documents folder. do i need to change all the values in that folder? why isn't this working?
  5. my friend told me crt's have a contrast ratio of infinity. is that even possible? or was he just exagerating?
  6. that and i suppose that even though the eye cannot recognize it, (or maybe it can), the crt's are producing better, more indepth color. maybe in like 20 years when lcd's turn into the price of olcd's or plasma's, but for now it's far more functional to buy crt.
  7. I'm tired of always having the ipod service and the quicktime service constantly running in the background of windows. Has anyone figured out another application to you besides itunes to sync music properly with the ipod? winamp seems way too confusing, and it never seems to sync properly. am i doing it wrong?
  8. Tom's Hardware said that majority of these monitors tested out to perform at 30 ms response times. Is this true? You actually believe those a$$e$ at Tom's Hardware??? haha, yeah. it's not like you can believe the big companies to the fullest. HEY FREE IPOD, JUST CLICK HERE!!!.....LOL and whoever mentioned before about the sony having better color i believe you said, that now brings up a new debate. IS the NEC the better monitor of the two simply because of the fact, like you said, "it's built better"???
  9. I'm giving this laptop to my Mom now and I've renamed the account, but I'm wondering if it's possible to rename the root my documents folder, because it still has my name on it, and how i would go about doing that.
  10. Tom's Hardware said that majority of these monitors tested out to perform at 30 ms response times. Is this true?
  11. no, the colors won't be in-depth enough, and the refresh rate won't be fast enough. i'll try my luck with the samsung and probably order it tomorrow or the next day. i'll be without a monitor for a while, but i'll be on my laptop, so i'll check the post. thanks for all the help everyone. get your oppinions in now before i buy it. if you think there's anything better out there, let me know now. i'm sure this choice will be more that nice anyways. thanks much.
  12. I maintly want a big CRT because I do lots of gaming and my little 15'' Dell tears a lot. So the reasons for me to change are size, tearing, and color for digital photography.
  13. These monitors are entry level photography monitors. Some of the high end Sony's are near $3000.
  14. it's definitely a toss-up between those two. there is a viewsonic that is pretty nice, but i like the features of these two more.
  15. I'm about to buy a monitor and I'm stuck deciding between Two very nice choices. Can anyone tell me which is better of the Two here, and why? Thanks. http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/pr...=Specifications http://monitoroutlet.com/782017.html
  16. i'm putting my actual IP in. and the service is returning errors that it's already hosted, most likely because i didn't set up IIS yet, but will. do i need to put the inetpub folder in that path of HTTP://MY STATIC IP/inetpub? or do i simply point only to my pc. i have port 80 forwarded.
  17. so when the dns asks where to point i simply put... http://myip ? or is it http://myip/c:/inetpub/ ??? also im getting this error when trying to redirect a free .tk domain to my ip when i use http://myip as the direction to point to the server In order to send all your visitors to the right spot, we need to know the exact location where your current existing website or homepage resides. Your current web address It seems that the URL you provided does not exist or is by itself already a redirected URL, which cannot be redirected again by Dot TK. Please choose another URL. i've enabled port forwarding for port 80, but i haven't configured iis would iis not being configured prevent this from forwarding correctly? help anyone???
  18. that was the down to earth answer i needed. thank you.
  19. i have apache and mysql installed on this computer. i just don't understand how to forward my domain name to this pc and how to make apache or iis direct it to a certain config or folder or index file on this pc.
  20. well i'd just like to see this work. sorry if i'm getting frustrated. i'll research iis as much as i can, but can you tell me what kind of vulnerabilities i might be prone to, before i leave this topic alone, and how i can prevent them? and i just don't understand how iis takes over when a domain is forwarded to this computer, and how it knows what folder to look in for what file types. thanks anyways for the help. i know i'm a noob, but i'll keep trying.
  21. a different response could have been more motivating.
  22. thank you very much. is it going to be possible for me to set up webmail? and is it possible to setup any free domain that i choose? if not, how will i direct my current domain to this server, through IP?
  23. how do i setup iis? how can i access it?
  24. will do. the microsoft website? and thanks everyone for the help.
