  1. i haven't flashed the bios yet, i get the ram back monday from newegg. until then i have to manage to burn the bootable cd properly from a 266 laptop with a usb cd-rom burner, and a demo copy of nero that almost didnt install properly. do you know if cd-rw's are bootable?
  2. dude, it's not the motherboard. it's ram or bios or video, in that order.
  3. i did some extensive research last night, and i know my previous post was jargoned, but what i discovered is that the only update to the bios was to the cpu fan controller, which mine was set to change fan speeds by PWM, which is for 4-pin fans. i need to set it to voltage regulation. this in turn should, from what i read, adjust the temperature settings. also from what i read the computer was shutting off and staying powered on, but not displaying video because the cpu was in safe mode. does this sound right? would a pc stay powered on and display a black screen if there was something wrong with the cpu temperature or fan? gigabyte on the phone today said to be sure i had the 4-pin molex connector plugged into the board, but even when i had it plugged into the board this same thing would happen. it has to be the fan or cpu temperature. i found all this information on forums about the nF2 bug, nforce 2 bug. this forum... http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2623
  4. completely wrong. i just researched the last day or so and i figured out that its my temperature shutoff feature linked to how my fan is going into power save cpu mode being either controlled by voltage or PWM 4-pin whatever, which i have a 3-pin as my cpu fan. anyways the gigabyte website says to update the bios, but first i'm going to try to change that option. if that doesnt work im going to try disabling temperature shut-off, which is risky, but i'm pretty sure that will fix it. according to some research i've done this reason alone is the reason my system only sometimes posts, and considering the only update to the bios is to the 4-pin cpu fan PWM update, this should fix my booting sometimes problem with my am2. step 2. as to why it wasn't entering windows on this sometimes boot, the reason is that the drivers aren't digitally signed, so i'm going to go into safe mode, which i know i can do, and i am going to uninstall the video card drivers and install the chipset from nVidia's site, not from the cd-rom. for some reason these unsigned drivers were causing a memory issue from my video card, which is why the card read pci.sys as the error at the 0x7e bluesceen. the sometimes boot completely threw me off and made me think that it was ram. that and those idiots on yahoo kept saying it was the ram. f*n idiots. now all i really have to do is wait for the ram to come back from newegg, reinstall it, get it to boot, and go through step one and step two, and possibly reinstall. what lead me to believe it wasn't the ram is that it would be completely odd that two sticks of memory recieved were faulty. especially when everything checked out as far as compatability specifications. by far the most complicated computer building problem i've ever encountered, all because of a poorly written bios. (not that i could write a better one.)
  5. i'm almost positive it is just incompatable RAM. Newegg will NOT return it because I peeled off the stickers. I'm so angry right now. This is so screwed up.
  6. i did not try to update the bios, because sometimes the pc does not boot, or it does not POST. This leads me to believe that it's faulty memory as everyone has suggested. I've been able to last every time until the bad block is struck upon in the memory module and the computer shuts down. here is my error message... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330182
  7. it was running for about 4 hours then it dropped. i'm beginning to think it's my video card. i only have an option to set the clock speed to 200 max for pcie and the card goes up to 400. what should i do?
  8. I had the memory clock set wrong. ddr2 800, it runs at 400mhz. who woulda thought. boo on my bios for not auto detecting that properly, but an even bigger boo on myself for being such a dumb*$$. did i say that i'm happy it's working!?!?!
  9. yeah i'm not really sure what the problem is, like i said. also i haven't been able to find any 1.8v memory that is pc2 6400.
  10. yes i tried with one stick of ram, thats when i was able to change the voltage, and thats when i had two sticks working fine for a while, but then it will like stop turning on. its so weird. a bunch of guys on yahoo suggested that its because its cheap ram, or value ram.
  11. the motherboard runs at 1.8v, and i bumped it up by 0.3v. The memory was running at 2.1v like recommended. i did not see an option for running it at 666+1mhz, anywhere. On the package it said DDR2 800mhz. PC2 6400. I did manually set the Cas Latency to 4T which is what the memory is supposed to run at. Like I said I was able to get as far as installing windows and installing a couple apps, but then i needed to reboot, and couldn't boot back up. The tested and recommended system memory is corsair, so i'll try some of that. If this memory is that poor in quality, why would a company make this stuff? Also, I don't understand whats not working about it. Like physically in the RAM, whats wrong? why does ram error. gskill's top of the line stuff seems to have a good reputation, but their bottom of the line stuff i think i read that the controllers are re-manufactured and crummy. i say gskill, don't jipp people. my mistake. from now on i'll only use recommended and tested system memory on machines i build, and i recommend the same to anyone else building a new pc. in a way i sorf of deserve it for buying such cheap ram.
  12. yeah i actually doubt that the ram is bad because i've had the system running with both of them in at once. i even got as far yesterday and today as to install all of xp, get the updates in, and a few programs installed. for some reason the pc stops turning on. i went to reboot, and access denied. i've been all over yahoo computer chats asking guys and they just think its just incompatable, regaurdless of it being the proper ram type. i figured out with one of the guys that this crucial is recommended, and for a 100 more than this stuff, i'm going to get it. It was all just too odd. I've had bad video cards, and i've bought the wrong ram before, but i've never had the right style of ram not work. or i've never had it work periodically. also the voltage on the board is 1.8v for the memory modules, and this crucial memory i'm about to buy is 1.9v. Do you think i will have any problems?
  13. the motherboard is more than perfect for me. i moreless need to get it working.
  14. amd 4600 am2 processor gigabyte ga-m55 SLI-S4 motherboard chaintech 512mb pci-e video card gskill 2 1gb dual channel ddr2 800 memory basically i've narrowed it down to being the problem of the memory, but i guess i'm just wondering if there is anything i can do to make this memory work. i've gotten it to post with 1 stick in slot one, but only sometimes. is there anything i can try before i just go and buy new memory?
  15. my newly built pc only posts every once and a blue moon because of my gskill memory that i bought. is there anything i can do? is this ram just incompatable?
  16. it's been a memory problem that i am slowly getting on top of. it's now updated timings in bios and i'm onto installing.
  17. windows is not installed onto the hard drive. I never got past bios.
  18. I just built a new computer, and I got my video to display, but i had to turn the computer off to plug in the keyboard. Now I can't get the video to display again. My monitor just flashes blank and says Digital/Analog. It was working fine a second ago. How can I fix this? ANYONE PLEASE.
  19. UH because fans with a 4-pin have a power output. F-ing duh!? PuntoMX answered my lame F****** question, t.y..
  20. Please only answer this question if you know for sure! Please! I have a 4-pin from my power supply going to a 4-pin fan, going to another 4-pin fan, and ending. Will my fans work like this, or do I need connect the end of the last fan in for them to work? I can't test it out yet because I don't have my processor yet, and I want to know for sure if it will work before I boot. Thanks in advance.
  21. it's been stated already, but thanks.
  22. can anyone tell me what microsoft did with the mouse acceleration, or enhance pointer precision settings in vista? are they still there? are they gone? are they changable? Thanks in advance.
  23. I'm not sure if this question is more software than hardware because it does require a mouse with an acceleration option, but I'm wondering which setting everyone prefers with their mouse, why it's better, when comparing logitechs acceleration or third party accelerations compared to either no acceleration or microsofts xp enhanced pointer precision, or any other accelerations you may use or other mouse settings. and remember to give your reasons why you think they're better.
  24. hello hello vertigo, can anyone help me?
  25. yeah im about to buy a refurbished crt which is risky but im pretty sure its in good condition, plus i hve a good return policy im working with
