  1. I saw a post somewhere over the last week or so but I am not sure if it was here or somewhere else so please forgive me if I am repeating, sorry. I have made some animation avi's to use in my shell32.dll. I extracted an AVI using reshacker then opened it in ULEAD GIF animator and changed the colour of it. Then, when I saved it it is 1.43 mb which is far too big. Does anyone know how these animations are compressed to make them so small?
  2. Hello, I am currently in the process of giving my whole system an overhaul. The only things I will keep are soundcard, hard disks, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Everything else needs to be replaced. I was just wondering, does anybody have any tips for building a silent/quiet PC? As I will be using this as a DVD player and will be leaving it over night occassionally. The only thing is, I am on a bit of a budget. I don't really want to spend more than £600 on the whole system, maximum £800. May not seem like a really tight budget but when you think about it, cpu - 150, gfx - 120-150, mobo-100, dvd burner 40, etc.. Anyway, anyone tried to build a silent PC before? Got any info on good products? I did a bit of a google search but most of the pages are either selling stuff (so i cant really trust the sales pitch) or are really out of date. Thanks
  3. Well the only noticable difference with mine is the splash screen. Are you using free or pro? Also, modern or classic? Also, bundled software doesnt really seem like WinAMP, you get it from the WinAMP site? EDIT: Check out the lite bundle if you dont want all the extras, http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php Seems good idea if you dont use modern skin, which I don't
  4. Are you sure? I tried WinRAR, 7-zip and PowerArchiver but they wouldnt open it.
  5. Nice, thanks for the replies, works a charm
  6. Does anyone know how I can extract the files I download from themexp.org without having to install the bundled adware? They have lots of stuff I dont see on other customization sites but they wrap all their files with some stupid adware program. Anyone know how I can get round this?
  7. I am using Windows XP Pro on my PC which is connected to a BT Voyager 2000 Router/ADSL modem. 2 other computers are connected by cable and 2 wirelessly (one PC and one Powerbook) Often when I boot up my PC there is no error message and everything is fine. But sometimes I log on to windows and find one of two error messages. First is that "a network cable is unplugged" even though it is not. If I wait for 5 minutes it it disappears and I am connected. The other message I get is that I am not connected to the network and I get "The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer." If I click on repair and then wait 2 mins, it repairs fine and I am connected. Both of these errors show an icon in the notification area. Does anybody know what might be wrong? The first error is leading me to believe I have a dodgy network card as its not detecting the cable. The second would lead me to believe the network or router is set up wrong as it has difficulty assigning me an internal network address. What do you think? Thanks
  8. Somehow, messing about with changing the name and insalling new visual styles etc, I got it working. Wish I knew how I did it though
  9. Because there is a shell pack that I use but a couple of icons and bitmaps that I want to customize. I want to include the shell pack on my UA cd but have an option to install it rather than slipstreaming the system files. I will include this cmd file (with quite a few other lines) to update the system files to the bitmaps and icons I want. I dont want to do it manually on every install. But I know how to kind of do it now. But I only know how to replace ALL resources: reshacker.exe -modify %systemroot%\explorer.exe, %systemroot%\explorer.exe, explorer.res,,, But I am looking for a way to update only one or two resources.
  10. In a folder I have reshacker.exe and two other folders: "explorer.exe" and "logonui.exe". I want to update explorer.exe (in D:\WINDOWS\) and logonui.exe (D:\WINDOWS\system32\) with an .ico file and a .bmp file which are in the folders with reshacker.exe. I've been looking around for some explanation to the -modify command but I think this is how it is done. Can anyone confirm this is correct? @echo off cls echo Press CTRL+C to cancel now or ENTER to continue pause >nul reshacker.exe -modify %systemroot%\explorer.exe "explorer.exe\100.ico", ICONGROUP, 100 reshacker.exe -modify %systemroot%\system32\logonui.exe "logonui.exe\2005.bmp", BITMAP, 2005 pause >nul Thanks in advance, Thomas
  11. http://www.deviantart.com/view/22479937/ I don't really like Mac lookalikes but FlyakiteOSX is the best shell pack out there, and after I have tweaked it abit it wont be so 'osx'y
  12. For some reason, some visual styles won't stay in the Windows and Buttons drop down menu under Appearance in Display Properties. This happens even when they are in the Windows > Resources > Themes folder. The only way I can select one is by going to the folder and double clicking it. Then it appears in display properties but disappears the next time I open it up. Anybody know the cause of this problem? Thanks
  13. So where does %systemroot% go? Windows folder?
  14. I have a .cmd file in th $Progs folder of my XPCD, I also have a short cut to it in the $Docs > All Users > Desktop folder. I know this is probably a stupid question, but should the shortcut point to: D:\XPCD\$OEM$\$Progs\*.cmd Or %systemdrive%\Program Files\*.cmd ? I am thinking it will be the second one but I am just making sure shortcuts are not altered during the burning or installation. Thanks
  15. The BricoPack system is not for creating packs, you must do that manually, all it does is provide a way for these packs to be applied to any version of Windows XP. I found out the Installer system isnt available but I know the basics of how it works now, it uses resource hacker with the -modify command to put icons and bmps etc into system files
  16. There is a program which I currently have modified files for and want to include on my UAXP but I dont want to waste space by having the installer AND the modified files on the CD. What I would like to create is a cmd file, installer or some sort of script that would install the registry entries then extract an archive of the files onto my hard drive at a certain location. I have been able to monitor the original installation using regmon but I dont fancy having to manually export the entries to reg files and then manually create the cmd. Is there an easier way to do this or some alternative method? The installer has no help switch it would seem. Thanks in advance
  17. @gunsmokingman By batch I dont mean a batch file, I just mean done in bulk. I will try out those programs, thanks for the replies
  18. I have thousands of icons in png format. I would like to point to a folder and have all the png's inside converted to ico files. Is this possible? I have IconDeveloper but this requires me to open each png individually and would take days. Thanks
  19. Wow, thanks, I was looking how to make a BricoPack but this seems to do just the same thing (doubt its universal language though) Thats cool Thankyou

  21. Hi, I would like to develop my own Universal Shell using the BricoPack System to create the installer. I know how to patch system files to meet my needs but I dont fancy having to re-do it every time a new system file comes out. With the BricoPack system I would just click update, but I dont know where I could get the tools or the BricoPack installer software to create the pack. Does anyone have any information or links on how I would go about doing this? I checked the bricomix.net website and I think I can understand most of the french (thanks to systran ) but I still cant find any info on making my own pack. Thanks
  22. I want to replace every single icon with high resolution ones (the kind you get on OS X) but I dont want a mac imitation, just some nice icons and slightly modify a couple of other bits and pieces. what would you suggest? Ive tried IconPackager and it doesnt even replace half of the system icons so it looks really messy? I thought it may be best to do it manually unless there are other alternatives?
  23. Zxian, what other files would you reccommend I edit the icons of apart from shell32.dll and explorer.exe or are all the system icons in those two files?
