On the level of BDAXP.cab and dxnt.cab, I see no difference between Windows XP with SP2 and this "new" DX9 package. I'm only going by the file dates, though...

MS Base Smart Card HF / User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
Tomcat76 replied to Bugs Bunny's topic in HFSLIP
TommyP, Ignore the error about quartz.dll. As I said, it's only reported when the Smart Base update is included. Since HFSLIP is incorparating the Windows XP portion of the Smart Base update (or at least part of it) into Windows 2000 by mistake, I'm not surprised this error comes up. -
It looks like HFNETCHK receives a screwed up CAB file today... Partition 1: Windows 2000 SP4; not HFSLIPped (manually patched). Age: Two/three months. Partition 2: Windows 2000 SP4; fully HFSLIPped. Age: a few hours. HFNETCHK result for "partition 1", yesterday: all clean. HFNETCHK result for "partition 2", today: 37 problems. HFNETCHK result for "partition 1", today: 36 problems.

It's nice to see a clean WU, but I don't care if it can't be done... It's up to you. With /c /t, an error comes up saying that /c is not a recognized switch, and if I use /q /x, it says that /q is not recognized. I'll try with just /x next time... Thanks for the info on the DX9 update. I'll check it out. Edit... I've redownloaded the update for DX9 and it's completely identical -- up to the version number of quartz.dll. HFNETCHK said: quartz.dll has a file version [6.5.1.907] that is less than what is expected [6.5.2600.2749]. quartz.dll version from the update package I used till now: 6.5.1.907 quartz.dll version from the update package I just downloaded: 6.5.1.907 DX9 update for Win2K -
Thanks. I'm trying it out now...

I separated the reg tweaks from the programs and it still doesn't work. MS Base Smart Card HF / User Profile Hive Cleanup Service

I hope you can nail this one, TommyP. It looks complicated to me. I first opened the Smart Base hotfix with 7-zip, but "quartz.dll" isn't part of it. Then I noticed three important INF files: one for Server 2003, one for XP, and another for 2000. I used the Windows Search facility to thoroughly scan the SOURCESS folder for Windows 2000 using various keywords, and I could only find one INF related to the Smart Base hotfix (HFSLIP53.INF)... which turned out to be a copy of the INF for Windows XP. Figuring this was the cause of the problem, I manually updated the INF in the SOURCESS folder (leaving the heading that HFSLIP creates intact), made a CD and installed Windows again, but Windows Update still claims the update isn't installed. BTW... Is this hotfix protected or something? I can only extract it with GUI archivers (WinRAR, 7-zip,...), not with their command line applications nor with a "regular" extraction using the /c /t or the /q /x switches. -
I think we're getting somewhere. When I reg tweaked two/three months ago (Adobe Reader 7.0.3, etc.), I had everything in one .REG file wrapped in an executable named "zPOST.exe" made with IExpress, which (of course) is being executed after the last program. This is what I got now: [setupHotfixesToRun] HFSLIP.CMD MPSetup.exe /Q:A /R:N AOPR.exe DNF11r.exe DNF20z.exe jre506.exe MSNMsg70.exe Rdr705EN.exe UPHClean.exe WMPCskEN.exe Q890830.EXE /Q So if the registry tweaks MUST be executed after the last program, it's obvious why my method is failing. Is this a limitation of Windows 2000? Edit: Post #9 refers to registry tweaks that are parsed by HFSLIP. Since I don't have any "loose" .REG files, I figured that comment didn't apply to me. My .REG files are embedded into the silent executables of AOPR.exe and MsnMsg70.exe.
-
You're probably mistaking me for someone else. I gave it another go, this time WITH the reg tweak for MSN Messenger.... and it didn't work. I just checked all the programs I have in HFSVPK, and right now only MSN Messenger and AOPR contain registry tweaks. Is it possible that Windows 2000, during installation, doesn't know how to handle "regedit -s" and needs "regedit /s" instead? The reg files do work when I install these two packages AFTER installation of Windows, so it must be something specific to the Windows setup. Edit: Nope. The regedits still don't take place. I give up; it's clear it doesn't work from SVCPACK.
-
I just checked the silent installer for MSN Messenger 7.0 and it appears I forgot to include the reg patch. So it's just the AOPR that screws up (HKLM). Oleg II... I don't see the difference between that and what I'm doing now. The package for AOPR contains: - the original AOPR setup files - the registry tweak (.reg file) - a CMD converted to EXE which runs the registry tweak with the -s switch and then installs AOPR with the /S switch This is wrapped in a 7-zip self-extracting package that runs the internal once-cmd-now-exe file. As said earlier, this works in Windows XP so it's not the method that's the problem (unless I used REG.EXE instead of REGEDIT.EXE but that's not the case) but the fact that I can't reach HKLM from SVCPACK.
-
????OK, this is getting confusing. I want this in the registry when installing MSN Messenger 7.0: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger] "AppSettings"=hex:62,04,00,00 "DSBkgndMode"=hex:01,00,00,00 "PassportBalloon"=hex:0a,00,00,00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "MsnMsgr"=- And this when installing AOPR: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ElcomSoft\Advanced Office Password Recovery\Registration] "Code"="XXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX"

I made a SLIP just a while ago without KB893066 v2, and Windows Update didn't complain. Did you compare with Update Rullup 1 v2? Works for me...
-
That's exactly what I want to avoid. I want the reg tweaks embedded in the silent/switchless package for the program they apply to.Yahoo Messenger is fine. I use version 5.6 (build 1358). The installer is 2.79MB.
-
Now I'm stumped. The regedits for MSN Messenger (HKCU) and for Advanced Office Password Recovery (HKLM) didn't take on Win2K. They did on WinXP. How come some work on Win2K (Adobe Reader) and others don't? I'll try to use HKU next time for the HKCU stuff, but how do I do it for things that should end up in HKLM without using a second install package (for RunOnceEx or whatever)?

Hmm... Now that I checked every bulletin, KB893066 (Vulnerabilities in TCP/IP) is supposed to be in the Update Rollup too. I'm going to try a slipstream without KB893066. What makes me doubt is that the Update Rollup doesn't mention which version of KB893066 is being replaced... Release dates: KB893066 v2: June 14, 2005 Update Rollup 1 v1: June 28, 2005 Update Rollup 1 v2: September 13, 2005

MS Base Smart Card HF / User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
Tomcat76 replied to Bugs Bunny's topic in HFSLIP
I can confirm this now. I thought it didn't work because I slipped an English version of the Smart Base update into a Dutch version of Windows XP, but Dutch on Dutch doesn't work either. HFNETCHK says the version of quartz.dll is lower than expected. @Bugs Bunny: If you intended to try other applications with it, you should download it again. I discovered a problem with the implementation of .NET 1.1. -
A quick search would've helped you quicker... I think it will still use the MSI inside the package (which doesn't work during an unattended installation of Windows because it requires Windows Installer 3.0 or higher). You need to make sure install.exe is called. Read the thread I linked to in one of my posts above for more information. No. An app may be compatible with 1.1 and 2.0, but the architectures are different. RyanVM has slipstreamed the Service Pack and the hotfix into .NET 1.1 and made a silent/switchless installer from it (to go in HFSVPK). You can download it here. You'll still need the language pack if you want it in another language.

DmitryKo bet you to it for the security fixes in the sticky thread from the_guy, but thanks for posting.

Merci beaucoup! The readme files have been updated...

I have actually never tried these tweaks with HFSLIP yet, but I did some stuff with Adobe Reader and Messenger in both HKLM and HKCU and it's always worked. I don't see why these should fail. Here's another tweak which I did in the past using a batch file: changing the default sort order of the My Computer and My Documents desktop icons so My Computer is displayed first (just like in Win9x). If you do this with a batch file on an existing installation of Windows, it needs to be done like this: 1) Change the sort order and remove the My Computer and My Documents icons from the desktop (reg) 2) Kill explorer.exe 3) Place back the icons (reg) Since there is no desktop yet when Windows installation goes through SVCPACK, I think it should be enough to just change the sort order... but I haven't tried it yet. I got 14 INFs for WMP in my SOURCESS. Does that make me god? There are several which contain uninstall information, but I take it I pick the biggest of the bunch... the one which also contains the "HKLM\...\Uninstall\Windows Media Player" reg keys. Edit: HFSLIP doesn't modify wmp.dll.
