Hi All, Hope this is the right place for this quick and I am sure an easy question. I have as the topic states a 2.5 gig ram with an 80 gig HD running on XP Pro. what should be the appropriate paging size for Initial MB and Maximum MB. Thanks for your help in advance. EXPRESS

  8. nitroshift, sounds like a good idea, but and here is the but. They need to access internet for some of the applications though. We have in place policies that restrict users to websites but we can't get them all. Also I need to restrict these guys from installing apps, like ESPN, Weather tools, etc... Thanks, EXPRESS
  9. Hi All, Ok here's the scenerio I work at a firm which, as anywhere you have your clowns that like to wonder on websites which they shouldnt be on and downloading games and such... yeah they can get terminated thats another story. Currently these users are setup with admin rights due to the trading applications they need to use. Now I have been successful on locking down some apps so they dont need admin rights but there others which need it. I have been able to place them in to PowerUses and it works as well. My question is what are the main differences between Administrator and PowerUsers. Can they both still do installs and such???? Any advice will be appreciated. My overall goal is to lock the user down that they may only use the computer for its purpose at work without downlaoding stuff which then as we all know it installs adwares, spywares, viruses and etc.... Thanks EXPRESS
  10. Many good advices, I will have to rethink this. The question mark that ONLESS possed made me think. Hmmm how about if there is something lurking in the background which none of us knows whats going on? Maybe if I just use it from the cd without copying it to the local computer... mmarable you may have a good idea. Hey jrf2027 becarefull with your 3 month old, he may not know how to close a dos window but I bet he can drop his bottle on the keyboard :-) ... Thank you all, EXPRESS
  11. Thanks Larson for the prompt reply, you are correct Symantec is our Antivirus product so thats not going to change. So currently I have it being installed on to the local mahcines when doing the installs can i just not included in there, in other words use it to do the installs then remove the cmdow.exe? Thanks for you help. EXPRESS
  12. hi guys, i just experienced this problem today, i had no idea of this my problem is that my firm is all Symantecs so to say don't use it is not a valid fix. Why is this now considered a hacktool? and what will happen if i remove the cmdow.exe from doing any other install??? any help will be appreciated. thanks EXPRESS
  13. Hi All, Ok here's my problem I have successfully created a unattended DVD installation of XP and Office 2003, there is a cmdow.exe file in $$\System32 that I have been using for the longest I can't even remember at this point what was it for. But in any case yesterday my helpdesk tells me viruses are being picked up from these installs from Symantec. The "Risk" Hacktool.HideWindow Threat Type Hack Tools the file name as mentioned above is cmdow.exe. Can someone PLEASE tell me whats going on. Like i said I forget what was the purpose of the cmdoe.exe but now its showing up as a virus threat. Do I need to use CMDOW.exe? Has anyone else have had these issues and what was done to rectify them. Thanks any help will be appreciated... EXPRESS

  17. No, not a multiboot dvd. I am going to start all over from my original XPCD which has not been revised with these packs. I have copied from original XPCD to c:\Temp\022206XPCD from thier I will start anew. I will get back to you with what I have done step by step. Keep i mind I had used the Lan pack before with very little issue, i'll get back to you. Thanks,
  18. Still not working for me, it seemed to have slipstreamed correctly this time and I used method 2 as suggested and that part seemed to have ran fine. When running the ua dvd and upon booting up for the first time i got t he following message. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  19. the hardware is an HP Workstation xw6200, I will try 2 today, I am updating the windows updates as well while I am at it. thanks,
  20. hi, I am going to try again I will get back to you. Quick question though I just want to make sure that I have this right. Let me tell you what I have done and what I wil do again, (let me know if I am doing something wrong). 1) I downloaded all the packs to C:\TEMP\DriverPack\DriverPacks 2) Ran BTS_DPs_Slipstreamer_V6022.cmd 3) I took option 3 4) Copied the contents of UWXPCD_ROOT to C:\TEMP\02-17-06 Revised\ (this is where I may have messed up) is this the proper place where I needed to copy the files to? or should I have copied the files to C:\TEMP\02-17-06 Revised\$OEM$??? 5) Then executed the RUN_ME.cmd I chose R for RunOnceEx and I just hit enter when asked for the default (937) number. Any help would ne appreciated. Thanks.
  21. seems like a lot of us are having issues all of a sudden. maybe a problem with the latest update. I updated mine this morning and i am having nothing but problems.
  22. Hi, Problem once again... I see this in my winnt.sif file. I didn't think this would be in there if I choose RunOnceEx when it was compiling. Arguments = "/Q /C START /MIN /HIGH %SystemDrive%\D\BTS_DPs_M3.cmd" DetachedProgram = "CMD.exe" I added Sound, Graphics, and chipset, but now my dvd is not working. I get an error msg then it reboots and starts all over again at T-39. I already had the LAN drivers installed so I figured I add some more stuff to it, but no good. I know it most be something I might of done wrong. any advice
