  1. Yes, it is BackupIntervalThreshold - my fault (I wrote that by hand and was not sure if it is intervall or interval - didn't copy it) Thanks for the Taskbar reg key, didn't test it yet. Yes, don't delete TransportBindName. I think this was "updated" from RC7 to RC8 - thought the new version of nlite was crap, until I found that out ;-)
  2. Now that I've set up the nc6320, I wanted to create limited users, but on the first login I receive "advanced inf failure" ... Okay, you will propably say "first give admin rights then restrict again" ... yes I know - this works. How does nlite apply its settings? Some silent installer also have the problem, that when they have been installed as administrator, they want to install again when logging in as a user. Creating users doesn't seem to have much support in the community. But on my own laptop, I don't have this problem with nlite ... strange ...
  3. It is not possible to activate/deactivate the SATA ports in the BIOS. The only thing which is SATA related is "SATA native mode" which is set to enabled (also tried disabled). Additionally WinXP is already installed (factory shipped) and boots. If SATA was disabled I would not able to boot into Windows ... I just want to install a clean Windows without any bloat from HP ... But ... good news!!! I disabled OEMPreinstall and now it works! yehaaaaa ;-) I was almost going nuts lol ... Thanks for your help!
  4. hmm ... 2 things disturb me: 1st: the things under visual effects are not only visual effects in system, not only effects in display properties but extra stuff (window tracking speed e.g.) 2nd: Then I would prefer to disable all visual effects (with one button) and then select the things I want back. But I don't want to expand 1x options just to disable each ...
  5. hi fernando, thanks for your help, windows version is xp prof sp2 I downloaded the latest driver from intel, not from your link (I already have that file - I integrated those drivers already as PNP drivers), instead of that I used this http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=175 The included drivers seem much newer than the ones from HP. I only integrated "Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)" (as mentioned from HP) as single-driver and text-mode. Is that everything I need to do? Anything about the WINNT.SIF? OEM Preinstall? Tick that option or not? What about [MassStorageDrivers] or [OEMBootFiles] or [OemInfFiles]? The Problem now is, the Setup hangs when it loads drivers, crashing at Adaptec AHA-..... (says that a .sys file is corrupted) I'm honest ... I don't now anything about driver integration ... because I only use PATA drives *g* Edit: I deactivated OEM Preinstall and will do a new test ...
  6. I integrated it via PNP mode, and the hdd is not recognized - what now? Laptop is a HP Compaq nc 6320.
  7. This is because IE6 updates may update DLLs which are not removed even if IE is removed ...
  8. a) windows xp prof b) it is an intel sata controller within a hp compaq nc6320 notebook, a friend of mine owns it and wants me to install his windows ...
  9. hi folks, I'm so sorry if this question is beeing asked every day ... But I just need to know how to add SATA drivers via nlite to an XP CD. I want the CD to boot and automatically detect the SATA HDD (no other HDD in that system!). So the CD should be able to format and install via SATA. I have the driver, but what now? Which options to tick - which not ... ?? I just don't have any clue of that driver stuff *g*
  10. please folks ... create your own thread @nuhi I tested the netbt unlink modification a little, the hack itself works fine! No problems because of it, I'm very happy with it. It seems to work for non-administrators, too. Tested it with power users. Didn't test it with users (I don't except problems). I just noticed the following about the other netbt hack you offer in nlite: When I set up the user and do the first login, several things are beeing executed. If I create the new user with administrator privileges, this user deletes the TransportBindName key everytime. So I need to set it again to \Device\ everytime I create a new user ... I keep SMBDeviceEnabled set to 0. I guess this is a problem in general ... please solve it *g* So, ports open after starting netbt via net start netbt are: TCP 139 UDP 138, 137 File exchange etc works fine ...
  11. @others stop posting in my thread please @nuhi some more feature requests: -unlock taskbar [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "LockTaskbar"=dword:00000000 -don't report to microsoft if your system was infected by spyware [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT] "DontReportInfectionInformation"=dword:00000001 -disable send to on context menu [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Send To] -show administrator on welcome screen (even though I don't use that dumb welcome screen, just for those who need it) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList] "Administrator"=dword:00000001 -disable logging HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Micrsosoft\WBEM\CIMON EnableEvents=0 Logging=0 BackupIntervallThreshold=100 -disable timestamping HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability TimeStampInterval=0 to be continued ...
  12. I have BV's pdf document about services ... at the end it is said: Additionally I don't like the "presets" he gives, for me none of his presets is accurate enough. I would prefer better descriptions of the services and examples what doesn't work without that service. I don't think that presets are that good, better learn what the things do that you remove ... @nuhi thanks, I didn't know that about quick launch ;-) some extra words about the netbt mod: 1)unlink netbt from DHCP (as described in the thread) 2)set netbt service to manual [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NetBT] "Start"=dword:00000003 I don't want you to forget the second thing *g* I would add this to the mod-description: netbt will be set to manual and will be available on demand via: net start netbt To stop it again: net stop netbt It may be needed to stop rdr and srv first Of course you can mention the great security benefit of shutting down the netbt ports
  13. hi nuhi, here are some more requests: general: -more infos/dokus about the applied modifications (-> possibility to revert things - reduce threads concerning this topic) -more infos/dokus on programs which will not work without the following component ... -remove more components -possibility to add users concrete: -win2k-like user accounts, already described here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=80780 -unlink netbt from dhcp and set netbt to manual (like wwdc does), described here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=80942 -disable windows keys [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,5b,e0,00,00,5c,e0,\ 00,00,00,00 -enable usb idle support (only of interest for some core duo notebooks!) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB] "EnIdleEndpointSupport"=dword:00000001 -show control panel on my computer [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideMyComputerIcons] "{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000 -disable signature check [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download] "CheckExeSignatures"="no" "RunInvalidSignatures"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments] "SaveZoneInformation"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations] "LowRiskFileTypes"=".zip;.rar;.nfo;.txt;.exe;.bat;.com;.cmd;.reg;.msi;.htm;.html;.gif;.bmp;.jpg;.avi;.mpg;.mpeg;.mov ;.mp3;.m3u;.wav;" -execute 16bit applications in seperated memory space [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WOW] "DefaultSeparateVDM"="Yes" -show quick launch -unlock taskbar -just _ONE_ button to disable _ALL_ visual effects to be continued ... ;-)
  14. hi, I already thought of that, but then didn't do it because I thought it is just for displaying the dependency in the services windows ... Now I tried it and I'm very happy with it ... DHCP without netbt really rocks - no problems ;-)
  15. hi folks, I have the following problem: I always use wwdc.exe to set the netbt service to manual - if I don't activate netbt via "net start netbt" the netbt ports remain closed. The problem is, on my home computer this works fine (static IP - no DHCP), on my 2 notebooks (DHCP) this doesn't work. I found out that the DHCP service is dependend on netbt and therefore starts the netbt service. Is there any possibility to unlink netbios over tcpip from the DHCP service? I hope there is someone around who can help me ... thanks in advance!
  16. Yes, I know this problem when both (XP and Win2k) User Accounts are in the control panel. I don't know why it is that way, but if IE is removed, there are no XP user accounts and therefore the win2k user accounts don't get deleted
  17. Hi folks ... I always use to wipe that IE crap out of windows ... Therefore I don't have the XP user accounts anymore, this is not a problem to me because: 1) I like the win2k user accounts much more 2) I can still create user accounts through the computer management now I found this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=9453 Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{7A9D77BD-5403-11d2-8785-2E0420524153}] @="OldUserAccounts" This tweak adds win2k like user accounts even if IE is removed (no surprise - in win2k user accounts remain even if IE removed). I think it would be cool to have that tweak added ...
  18. just wanted to say: latest test release works fine, everything is beeing slipstreamed perfectly!
  19. @G is IE6 in USP5.1 or IE5 ?
  20. 7-zip does not work properly: installation works without problems ... but what does not work: installation with admin create new user (limited access) use 7-zip he tries to access a file within the admin temp folder I hope this is fixed soon ...
  21. hfsliplog didnt say anything os is win2k no, I did not nlite the source anyway, thanks for the latest test release afair it worked with that version ... I'll test it tomorrow
  22. could someone please upload the latest test release for me? the final version doesnt integrate a hotfix, and has problems with windows script 5.6 .... so I'll just continue using the test release, to bad that I have deleted that version ...
  23. for me, KB916281 doesn't work anymore (slipstreamed it via hfslip, but after installation downloads this update via windows update) another: setup complains about missing iuctl.dll
  24. I still have lode runner in its original packing ... ;-) I liked the sounds of this game ... very cool indeed
