    SCRIPTEN.CAB

does the beta release also cover other languages than english? e.g. scripten.cab is english version, scriptde.cab is the german version and not covered? are network installations covered? *g* what are the benefits of the new slipstream method?
  2. thx for your answers, but why test sth if somebody definitly knows it?
  3. no, and without rc it works fine!
  4. i would need to create a new account ... and i hate it to create one because of one little question ..
  5. hi tomcat! another challenge for you *g* when I install win2k with RC (through hfanswer.ini) he complains about a missing winnt32.exe or wrong winnt32.exe this happens after first reboot (at T-13?) when configuring network and other stuff ... installation through network and unattended.sourceforge.net
  6. hi folks, i have the following question: when I install ryanvm's .net framework, does windows update detect it? (and would install a new hotfix if available)? thx in advance!
  7. tested it and he still complains about missing createcab.cmd! this file also still exists in the i386 folder! btw: with HFSLIP Version - 60809a and Windows2000-KB917008-x86-DEU.EXE i did not have the problem ... very strange, isn't it?
  8. I checked all updates and removed all old updates from the HF folder! I only use updates from here: http://users.telenet.be/tc76/winup/_win2k.html Problem still occurs! Thanks for your help, I'll try the latest test release now!
  9. perhaps he also installs through network with unattended.sourceforge.net afaik this works even without the files you mentioned, plain i386 folder should work could this be the reason, why some cab files don't work and can't be copied during setup?
  10. perhaps, i'll check that on friday and post again! atm i don't have the time!
  11. i'm using this list: http://users.telenet.be/tc76/winup/_win2k.html with all the stuff I can get from there source is a clean win2ksp4 6 months ago I already created a win2k fully patched with hfslip I need to look up the logfile but as far as I remember, some of the .cab files didn't work with unattended.sourceforge.net (stuff that goes into the HFCABS folder) therefore I didn't add all the stuff from the HFCABS folder ... now I tried it with all the stuff, not tested yet with less .cab files I hoped this problem would have been solved *g* I guess this is a problem in general with network installations and is not caused by unattended.sourceforge.net 6 months ago he complained about some missing files when including all possible .cab files (I guess it was iuctl.cab and some other optional stuff, IE6 works fine!!) now he complains about createcab.cmd ...
  12. i don't know, i just use hfslip and all packages + optional stuff i thought you would know ... *g*
  13. hi there, I've got the following problem: I use a linuxboot cd to boot over network, choose packages to install and then run an unattended setup. All this is possible with unattended setup from unattended.sourceforge.net Now I wanted to add a fully patched win2k to it but when copying the files, he tells me that createcab.cmd is missing! though it is in the i386 folder ... another problem I remember, when I first tried it that way some time ago, when installing with recovery console, he also complains about missing files ... but I didn't test that with the current version
  14. most of your information is wrong: 440bx = no limit or above 1gb SDRAM, but only specified for 100mhz FSB (most 440bx mainboards are able to deal with 133mhz anyway) i815, i810 = max. 512mb SDRAM, specified for 100+133mhz FSB i820 = no limit or above 1gb RDRAM, Singlechannel Interface, slow! i840 = no limit or above RDRAM, Dualchannel Interface, fast! (fastest chipset ever for P3) via chipsets, e.g. apollo 133 (sdram) or apollo 266 (ddram), but I won't use them, they both suck, bad performance, just slow additionally there are no 800mhz tualatins available most of the 100mhz FSB pentiums are SLOT cpus I would check if an upgrade to an 1,4ghz celeron or PIII-S is possible ... (back to topic: why use vista? ...)
  15. I use nlite for a very long time now and experienced the same ... removing much of the exploitable stuff (IE e.g.) and shut down unwanted services (netbios ports) I always integrate ryan's to be sure, that when I activate the netbios ports, I'm not vulnerable to worms ... Disadvantages: lost functionality (no IE) knowledge necessary to use my pc (net start net bt e.g.)
  16. i'm working for a small company beside my community service there we need to set up: desktop pcs and notebooks we always used the unattended setup from unattended.sourceforge.net which has some advantages, but also some disadvantages: -no possibility for sata drives (new notebooks = sata drive) -very often windows has no network drivers for notebooks for desktop pcs the unattended setup works fine, but for notebooks ... okay, almost any notebook we get is the same type, so imaging is an option for us but is there no chance of an unattended setup for notebooks? another problem is the software shipped with these notebooks (HP Compaq nc6xxx) what i want is a very flexible unattended setup where i can tick options or whatever i want to ...
  17. thanks for your replies linked solution from the hp forums worked fine - installed as deskjet 550c and now everything works ... hp drivers suck ;-)
  18. printing as power user doesn't work when I grant admin rights to this user it is possible to print anyone has got an idea?

    NetBios Over Tcip

Just to tell you the reason why netbios over tcpip is listed from now on in nlite: If you disable netbios, all relating ports are beeing closed. This increases security because many worms use these ports to get into the system (e.g. blaster, sasser, etc.). Windows file sharing depends on netbios and the relating ports, due to that you are not able to share/access any network shares after you disable netbios over tcpip. If you set netbios to manual you can still start it via "net start netbt" and stop it via "net stop netbt" to temporary share/access network shares - this is imho the best solution. Programs like windows worms door cleaner (wwdc.exe) just do the same. Usually netbios over tcpip is hidden from services, therefore they do this via a registry tweak. Just take a look on the security holes windows has got: 70% IE related 20% server services (netbios, etc) 5% Office related 5% misc If you take out IE and server services, 90% of all security holes won't affect you. I guess nuhi didn't answer because: a)just use google to inform yourself - don't use features of nlite that you do not understand exactly b)you behave like kids
  20. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=81169 download these drivers: http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=175 lookup your SATA controller on the HP website ONLY add that specific driver to your CD via nlite (TEXTMODE!) If it doesn't work - make sure OEMPREINSTALL=No Additionally it could help to delete the HP Recovery partition (if any) and to revert the BIOS back to default settings - otherwise I had some problems with missing files during setup (curious!) or it won't boot from CD ...
  21. I guess your problems are related to the "Network-Disable Microsoft-DS (close port 445 TCP/UDP)"-tweak. just try this: start regedit search for "TransportBindName" If this key is empty, put "\Device\" in it. This tweak changed from RC7 to RC8. So It should work for you with RC7 or just manually add \Device\ back again. Be careful when adding additional users - they delete \Device\ again - this is due to how nlite applies things ... edit: please add your nlite.inis - thanks
  22. wooohooooo ;-) nice one! I was searching for something like that because I own a small embedded PC where I wanted to install Windows ... I guess this method works both for Win2k and WinXP? Preformat the hdd in ntfs right? This is really cool *bookmark and copy to txt file* ;-)
