  1. The best registry cleaner is regseeker. Its free and it finds 100X more things than ccleaner or most other registry cleaners.
  2. If you want to remove quicktime and it's not listed in add/remove under apple quicktime or quicktime. Then look in: C:\program files\quicktime or c:\program files\apple quicktime If neither of those folders are there, then quicktime is not installed. If one of those folders are there, then simply deleting the folder is not going to get rid of it, and it will cause some issues because things are still left on your system. You will need a registry cleaner, regseeker or ccleaner will work fine. Check and delete the following folders: C:\program files\quicktime c:\program files\apple quicktime c:\program files\common files\apple (quicktime) c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\apple (quicktime) c:\documents and settings\YOUR-USERNAME\application data\apple (quicktime) Start menu > Apple software Update Start menu > quicktime Try to delete those files then run a registry cleaner to remove the traces of the programs. But do note: Quicktime is required with iTunes if you got an ipod. You say you downloaded it, i am assuming you also ran the installer and installed it. Simply downloading a file does not install it, you do have to run it.
  3. Trillian Astra (which is alpha right now) is really good. All clients are supported. Video works for MSN and Yahoo, they need to more A/V work. Its getting better each build. You need to sign up for the alpha, they select testers so you won't immediately be able to test, it does save connection prefs and logins, but nothing to be worried about with them.
  4. That is not how you delete programs off your computer. Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs Or if on Vista: Control Panel > Programs and Features Simply deleting the program folder or doing a search and deleting files is NOT uninstalling them correctly. I can go into detail, but its best to Use Add/Remove Programs.
  5. This is what i got on my system: CoreAVC Divx (xvid is old and crashes the COM in vista, thus grinding the system down to a halt, needing a reboot to get back to speed) Hailli Media Splitter QT Lite The thing with K-Lite, it has a bunch of Duplicate Codecs that do the same thing. ffdshow is that way too, it has codecs for things that are already on windows to begin with, plus it has different ones (duplication) I haven't tried Vista Codec Pack, but i don't need too either. I haven't needed another codec for any video i download. I also just ended my use of WMP. I am using Winamp 5.53 for music (i love it, functionality meets design and usability) & MPC Home Cinema (fork of MPC after the dev stopped working on it). I don't like the interface of foobar, amarok (hate kde), or VLC. I do like MPlayer/MPUI, but it uses 15-30% of 1 of my cores just to play a video. Banshee for windows would be cool, i use that on linux, but winamp is great. The thing about VLC and MPlayer and all of the other "no codecs needed" Well, thats a lie, they basically have all the codecs (dll's) in the program directory and they just use them there. That is a problem if you use both media player, essentially you got duplicates/wasted HDD space. But there is a bigger problem, w/o system codecs your actually being less effiecent. What if you want to use another player, or encode, edit, or reencode A/V? Well your going to need codecs installed, VLC and MPUI can't help ya (well vlc has an encoder plugin but its horrible). So really there is no advantage to using VLC or MPUI if your looking to avoid codecs. Honestly Codecs can conflict and cause problems, but only if you install a bunch of duplicates, even then it will only cause issues when playing media. MPC-HC is 1 executable program and can use an ini file instead of the registry for its settings (so portability too).

  7. I am just wondering why are you so against installing service packs.
  8. sorry late in posting, you can try doing a RenameOperationOnReboot, which will move or rename a file before system services are started, that should work. Google it to find out how to do it. Honestly there might not be much you can do, either use non apple software (itunes sucks on windows anyway) or get SP3.
  9. Then just get one of those activation methods if its such an issue. You really should be running at least SP2 and yes there are several exploits your not protected from. You don't need windows update to get the service pack, here is a dl link for SP3 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en No activation or check or anything. Anyway you have to have at least SP2 for the new iTunes as it uses a few features it introduces. You can use other software to sync your ipod, like Amarok for Windows, i think even winamp supports ipod syncing.
  10. Ya upgrade to XP SP3 and update itunes. Why would you even run XP RTM, its crapola. Itunes 1.6, are you nuts? There is no way around it, it requires the changes in SP2+. Update to SP3, your system right now is really vulnerable. XP SP3 will give you performance and reliablity, there is absolutely no reason not to update. Same thing with iTunes. Just update the system already
  11. Are you a complete moron. this is not a warez site. Does this even look like a warez site to you? This is the second post i seen you make about warez. If i were an admin i would just ban you.
  12. Whats the big deal disabling F8? Why do you have a 98 startup disk anyway? Why do you even have a floppy drive!! You can use an XP or vista disk and use the recovery console on it, same thing as a 98 boot disk anyway. As for doing what you want, i doubt anyone here knows, we all moved long gone from that OS. Is it really that important, why would you need to disable the F8 menu?
  13. I got one even better. Minefield (Firefox Nightly Builds) or Firefox 3 Release Canidate 1. Even on FF 2.0.0.* i never had 100% cpu with any kind of flash. Try updating your flash player. http://adobe.com.
  14. Ads? what are those. You don't need flashblock, you need adblock plus. You will love it, i haven't seen ads in years, and when i am on someone else's pc, its a different and worse net experience. I gotta love AdBlock.

  16. You guys all need to go back to school! This is either a joke or the OP is the one in the wrong. He was talking about Japan, Texas, not japan the country. I am surprised that nobody else got that. Edit: **** didn't mean to resurrect an old thread. It was in similar topics and i didn't check the date.

  20. In the next release could you make the system tray icons bigger? I don't know if it would be possible but could you see if it is. I want them to be the same size in the task bar but i use objectdock and i use a dock for my system tray. Since the icons are only 16x16, they suck for being in a dock. So if you could add different sizes to the resource, so if i have a dock it will be fine. i know i can change the icons in object dock, however when i do that, its static. So if i change the battery icon to something else, it would not change with the battery status. Could something like that be done?
  21. Don't bother with 8.3.2.1, but you might as well update it to that, even though on the changelog at nero, burning rom, express and the toolkit has not changed. When will the new update without VC Redist be out? Side note though, .net 3.5 has been out for a while, you can all uninstall 2.0 and 3.0. Its like java, plus 3.5 and VS2008 allow u to develop for a minimum verion 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, but not 1.1 since way to many changes exist between 1.1 and 2.0. Vista has 3.0 already on the machine. So i would uninstall 2.0 and 3.0 on xp, then just get 3.5, you can hide 2.0 and 3.0 in windows update.

  24. You guys are crazy i even slipstreamed sp3 and nlited it, no problem with that kb file at all for me.
  25. I figured it out!!!!! For some reason XP SP3 does not include kb835221. You can get it in the HDAQFE folder for your sigmatel drivers. The driver installed! It wants to restart IF I GET A PROBLEM AND IT DOES NOT WORK I WILL POST BACK, if i dont I WILL NOT.
