SFC_OS.DLL hack for XP SP2 Final
Denney replied to Denney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If you look on the unattended website (like I said), you would know that it allows you disable Windows File Protection so you can overwrite/delete protected files during and after Windows setup. @captdilly: Yes is has. I stated that in my last post when GreenMachine asked me. NOTE: The file you download from here can be put onto your Windows XP CD WITHOUT modification. -
UXTHEME.DLL hack for XP SP2 Final
Denney replied to Denney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Make sure you've hex edited the file. Then ModifyPE it and then compress it with makecab. Then overwrite the UXTHEME.DL_ file on the CD. Have you tried using other themes? -
UXTHEME.DLL hack for XP SP2 Final
Denney replied to Denney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@cybertron: I found these edits by using debuggers, process watchers, hex editors etc. They take some time to find but if you know what you're looking for it's easy. I'd suggest searching for some cracking sites (eg. sites on creating No-CD patches are a great start). @Aaron: I don't see why not. I haven't time/need to check it so I don't know. It should still work though. @rootfixxxer: Where did you get the file from? Have you performed the hex edits? Use a hex editor (not Resource Hacker) to check the above offsets and see what they say. -

SFC_OS.DLL hack for XP SP2 Final

Use the information on the unattended page here (just replace the file there with this file here): http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/wfp.htm -
UXTHEME.DLL hack for XP SP2 Final
Denney replied to Denney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@jrzycrim: Make sure you download the one I just reposted. I was slightly premature before. -
NOTE: To clear this up for everyone... If you don't want to hack the file yourself, download the attached file and REPLACE the file on your CD. That's all you have to do to be able to use ANY theme. Here is my UXTHEME.DLL hack for Themes... At offset (0001BB8C) change: 81 EC 88 00 00 00 A1 18 to: 33 F6 8B C6 C9 C2 08 00 Another fine hack done. So simple these are. I've also attached the hacked UXTHEME.DLL for use on the Windows XP CD. Edit: Re-attached UXTHEME.DL_ file with better compression (thanks RyanVM). UXTHEME.DL_

Update (05.10.07): If you wish to disable SFC, I'd recommend a program like nLite to do it as it is more advanced than this. This no longer exists and my website either. Update (27.05.05): I've noticed a lot of people are still coming to my website for these instructions. At the moment, our website is undergoing a redesign and this information is currently not available. I suggest using a program like nLite for this purpose. Thankyou. EDIT: FIXED HEX EDIT. PLEASE REDOWNLOAD!! Here is my SFCSetting hack for WFP... At offset (00000F82) change: 44 00 69 00 73 00 61 00 62 00 6C 00 65 to: 53 00 65 00 74 00 74 00 69 00 6E 00 67 At offset (0000ECE9) change: 33 C0 to: EB 01 Simple as that. I've also attached the hacked SFC_OS.DLL for use on the Windows XP CD. Follow the instructions at http://unattended.msfn.org for the hacked SFC_OS.DLL file but replace it with this file instead... Edit: Re-attached the SFC_OS.DL_ file with better compression (thanks RyanVM). Edit2: The attached file can be placed straight in the I386 folder WITHOUT modification. Edit3: For people getting confused about how to apply this properly and what version it's for, follow the instructions at doesn't exist anymore. The files there and the file attached here are for Windows XP Service Pack 2 RTM (Build 2180). Edit4: You DO NOT need the sfcfiles.dll file, found in this thread, to disable WFP. The sfcfiles.dll file only allows you to delete files and folders in the Program Files directory. It doesn't disable WFP.

He means it's Off-Topic (eg. OT).

It's 10:52 in Australia and, as knight_dkn said, I just got up also. Where is this SP? Ahwell, back to waiting. I hope they move it soon. I'm on the beta team and I can't wait to the final after seeing some of the features.
-
I'm still confused, is it meant to be released on the 5th or is it later now? I'm so lost in all these delays!!
-
It's now 8:23PM August 5th here in Australia. When does America hit August 5th? I couldn't be bothered working out time zones (bring on internet time!). I personally can't wait for this release. I just got Doom III, my new mobo, new vid card, new harddrive and the only thing holding me back now is SP2, oh, and Half-Life 2 but that can't be helped... Wait, delayed again? What the hell...

No, no. I want a script/program/registry edit that will just set a theme. I can do the selection myself and make that unattended. I just need to know how I can set the theme without using WINNT.SIF.
-
Is it possible to set the default theme WITHOUT using the WINNT.SIF file? I don't want to make a CD with 2 WINNT.SIF's but I want to apply a custom theme for each PC. If there is a way to do this from the command line, I would be very greatfull. Possibly during T-13 (cmdlines)??

I wonder if it's possible to remove the INF's of programs that you don't install... I know you can remove the contents of these files but it may make setup (slightly) faster by removing them. That way, setup doesn't have to open and parse them. I thought there would be more to. Does disabling the check in syssetup.dll open up any other possiblities of file to edit?
-
Now that we can modify it, what exactally can we do? I've never really had a look into SYSSETUP.INF and I'm wondering if someone with a bit more experience with INF files could tell us what we could edit.
-
If you want to modify syssetup.inf, go here: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/timothee.ruas That's 7ivo's website and it contains hex edits to get around the digital signature!!

Automatic CD Selection (1 or 2 cds)
Denney replied to ml20's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
My script will work if you place the correct files on each CD. Place "CD.txt" on CD1 AND CD2. Place "CD2.txt" on CD2. Then: @echo off REM Set the CDRom drive letter (regardless of CD)... IF EXIST D:\CD.txt SET CDROM=D: IF EXIST E:\CD.txt SET CDROM=E: IF EXIST F:\CD.txt SET CDROM=F: IF EXIST G:\CD.txt SET CDROM=G: IF EXIST H:\CD.txt SET CDROM=H: IF EXIST I:\CD.txt SET CDROM=I: REM Check if CD2.txt ALSO exists... If so, it must be CD2. IF EXIST %CDROM%\CD2.txt (start /wait %CDROM%\$OEM$\RunOnceEx-2.cmd) ELSE start /wait %CDROM%\$OEM$\RunOnceEx-1.cmd exit Just make sure on CD1 you have "CD.txt" and CD2, you have "CD.txt" AND "CD2.txt" Edit: There were some problems with this. The new version WILL work. Remember the (). -
Looking at netuser (which I didn't have before), I must say that you should use it. Netuser has more features that renuser and netuser can do the same things. I'm going to ditch renuser in favor of netuser because it offers more features.

Automatic CD Selection (1 or 2 cds)
Denney replied to ml20's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
On CD1, make sure you have "CD.txt" and "RunOnceEx-1.cmd". On CD2, make sure you have "CD.txt", "CD2.txt" and "RunOnceEx-2.cmd". That should work. -
Here ya go. RENUSER.EXE
