  1. I suggest try to run the Network discovery first before you do any queries. And if you want to deploy the clients, you can do it automatically or manually, there are options and I suggest to do the deployment of the clients through the collection. By the way, what are the majority OS of your clients?
  2. Totally agree though I would suggest that they lower their prices.
  3. Before I used Goto.com and AskJeeves.com and then google came and everything changed. It's GOO-GOUL but some would pronounce it as GOO-GAL. It's really up to you.
  4. I haven't tried Kapersky but I like NAV better than McAfee.
  5. I thought it was just legend but now I'm a believer. lolz
  6. By the way, which is better WSUS or SUS?
  7. Next games to be addicted to. 1. Diablo 3 (Hopefully) 2. Dungeon Siege 2 (Not yet finished with 1) 3. Commandos 3 (Not yet done with 2)
  8. Could you add more details to the issue like what server, clients OS?
  9. Best three for me. 1. Attack of the Clones 2. Return of the Jedi 3. Phantom Menace
  10. Based on experience, I would not suggest to set quotas on Home Drives since you can't be sure that everybody will be using their home drives and there are also some that will be using it big time. My point is, if you have it set, the allocated space for those users who are not using their home drives will just...be there, idle. But if your asking for the possibility of quotas, interminded is correct, not folders but volumes.
  11. Local users (users listed on the PC) by default doesn't have any permissions to add computers to the domain. Only Domain and Enterprise Administrators, Account Operators have permissions to add computers to the domain. Local Administrators are quite different from Domain Administrators in a way that Local Admins can only change settings in the PC alone while Domain Admins can change almost anything in the domain.
  12. I would not recommend giving ordinary users permissions to add just any computer to the domain. It would be a security issue. You first question is quite broad and I agree with chilifrei, be more straight forward on the problem.
  13. There was no error messages telling me that the clients can't download or something. It is just that, since May up to July, the updates that I recently approved mostly were critical were downloaded by the clients. I confirmed this by asking them users and also checking their computer accounts if it is on the OU where the GPO is applied. If you were referring to the fresh installation of the SUS server on the new server, there were no problems at all when I installed it. Although there were some problems with the syncronization of the 2 servers for the list of updates approved, overall there were no big issues on the installation.
  14. When you're giving full or read/write permissions to a file or folder, moving is implicitly included. read only permission is the only type of permission that will not allow movement of the files/folders. I haven't tried the other permissions in the "Advance" permissions. I think it is somewhat like you can't give modify or read/write permissions to a user without giving the user delete permissions. hope this helps.
  15. I think what you're referring is a roaming profile. Yes, Active Directory is the proper technology to use for that purpose.
  16. So far, I find the Acronis quite a bit OK but it has compatibility issues with some server like Compaq. I don't know if it is an isolated issue but so far, that is the only issue we had as far as Acronis is concern.
  17. No, that's a big no no placing a SMS 2003 on a DC. Use another server for SMS 2003.
  18. I did some lab testing before for SMS 2003. I not sure if it is the same with SMS 2.0 but you could only do remote control from the SMS Server and not from the client end. I would just like to ask, when you clicked on the "Remote Control" icon on the control panel, did it open a options dialogue box where you could change the settings of your remote?
  19. Yes, I did make a new installation of the SUS server then syncronized it with the old server. Nope, I didn't tried the new SUS, which is WSUS, yet.
  20. I have an issue with our SUS server here in our company. Here is the story. We have a SUS server here and all clients where placed in an OU where a GPO is applied so that it would point to our SUS server. We first had a very complex problem with our domain that we need to restore our domain from backup. After the restoration, it was still fine but after I transferred the SUS server role to another server because the original server was to converted to Linux, the clients where not able to download anymore from the server. The GPO was also corrupted, so I thought it needed to be replace with a new one with the same GPO settings but unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem. Our server running SUS is a 2K server and most of our clients are running 2K Pro and XP PRO. I need some inputs on what would be the possible cause and solution to the situation. Thanks!
