  1. Hello? I am using a linksys befw11s4-v4 wireless router with the latest firmware on xp home. Every now and then, the router connection is automatically dropped, interfering with the internet connection. Here, the xp home machine is physically wired to the router. Has anyone experienced the same and fixed the issue? Thank you.
  2. Hello? I have tried to import a bookmark that is in non-english. However, the characters are all unreadable. Here, both exporting and importing environments are the same - running the same xp home editions as well as the same ies. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you. 3. Hi, Thanks, LLXX.
  4. Hello? I'm using Windows ME and would like to successfully/completely uninstall an application. However, this application doesn't have its own uninstall method nor is this application listed under Control Panel's Add/Remove program list. How can I do the complete uninstall of this program successfully? Should I play with the registry editor? Thanks.
  5. Hello? I'm using Windows ME and I need help on viewing the explorer (files/folders) properly. Right mouse clicking on the Start button and clicking on Explore brings the file/folder explorer window. Here, clicking on View > Explorer Bar > Folders doesn't bring the usual tree view of files/folders in the left pane of the viewing window. I recently installed ME. Is my install corrupted? Thanks.
  6. Hello? I'm using Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on a PocketPC device and curious if there is a support for Korean language input method editor much like that for Windows 98/ME. Thanks.
  7. Hello? I'm using XP Home and would like to set up an environment variable, path. Tried looking around in the msconfig but couldn't find anything related ... Can anyone help, please? Thanks. Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  8. Hi, Thanks you all. Usually, when the issue becomes so irritating, I usually reboot the system and this takes care of the situation the most of the time. However, I'll take some of your comments in consideration in future.
  9. Hello? I'm using XP with SP2. Lately, I've been noticing my display turning rather slightly abnormal into greenish yellow tint. Both my monitor and graphics card are relatively new, about more or less 1 year old. My memories are relatively new as well. I'd like to know how I can troubleshoot this misbehavior. The tint doesn't last that long, just about few moments and that's it. However, this happens every now and then rather irregularly. Thanks. 10. Again, thanks for all your comments. First off, as far as the difference in having an antivirus application with built-in firewall running or not, I don't see a huge one. Why do I still use ME to these days? I just reinstalled this OS so that I wouldn't totally be ignorant of it Partly, I kind of miss this ME interface and look As far as the DDR RAM, it's indeed 512 + 256 + 128 = 896 MB (physically speaking). On the old machine? I don't remember the exact figure but probably well lower than half of the 896 MB. I might eventually replace this ME with Linux or something like that but until then I'll just keep it around. Why not Oh, as far as the hard drive that ME's running on, it's Maxtor 80 GB with some CACHE (not sure how much though). By the way, prior to this ME, I had XP Home on the same machine and the performance was just wonderful. The systemboard is AsRock P4AL-800. Thanks.
  11. Hi, Thanks for all your comments. Come to think of antivirus application, I'm not sure if I had it run on the old system or not -- probably, not. So, is the antivirus the culprit in the system performance degradation? Hmm, then, without this antivirus, what about the security on ME?
  12. Hi, I'm using ME on a rather decent hardware: Celeron 1.7 GHz with 896 MB DDR RAM However, I'm noticeably experiencing much slower performance than ME running on Celeron 400/433 MHz with much smaller and the plain old SDRAM. I came across somewhere that ME is hit noticeably with performance degradation on more powerful hardware settings as in my case. Is this a joke, and if so, why is ME running on 1.7 GHz slower than on 400/433 MHz? Please note that I'm not running whole bunch of applications all at once. Just the plain ME and some antivirus program and that's it. Thanks.
  13. Hi all, Thanks for all your comments. I did system restore and the OS is back.
  14. Hi nolookingca, Thanks for your comments. Yes, the issue here is with Open With. Your suggestion tries to remove/dissociate an unwanted application for an extention, correct? What I want is to remove a particular application listed on the Open With. For instance, if I try to open up a .pdf file, my system brings up the Open With list. Now in this list, under Other Programs, I always see an application that I uninstalled long time ago. It is this application that I do not want to see listed. Following your suggestion for .pdf extention under the regedit, I do not see any association with the unwanted application I mentioned before. I only see a proper application association; i.e. Acrobat Reader. So, I'm still stuck on how I can get rid of this unwanted application in the Other Programs listing under Open With. Thanks.
  15. Hello? When trying to open up a document, XP displays a list of registered application to choose from. Among the available applications in this list, I find a certain application still listed when, in fact, it is already uninstalled via Control Panel's Add/Remove programs. So, how can I clean up this list of registered applications so the list truly reflects only available and registered applications. Does this involve poking around registry? Thanks.
  16. Hi Shark007, Thanks for your comments. I've made a foolish mistake and my entire system was blown off. I need to rebuild all over again.
  17. Hello? I have a dual boot system between XP Home and Linux. I want to restore NTFS to the MBR of the drive where XP resides. I tried fixboot and fixmbr in the recovery console during the Repair stage from the install CD but none was successful. By the way, I can't no longer access the XP drive at all even in the recovery console. Is this a bad sign, or do I still have some hope? Can someone help me out on this? Thanks.
  18. Hello? I'm using ME and during its update process the system was messed up, and all I'm getting is the protection fault error during the boot. Is there a way to undo what's done during a previous step without reinstalling the entire OS? Tried with safemode and step-by-step mode but couldn't resurrect the ME. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  19. Hi Thanatos, I'll check out your referenced site at a later time. Thanks.
  20. Hello? I have Dell Axium Pocket PC that I want to upgrade to the latest if such one is available. Already contacted Dell about this but they rather pushed for a new device purchase. So, I have two questions: 1. How can I update the current Pocket PC in future? 2. Where can I get a Pocket PC CD for a back up purpose? Dell doesn't sell a Pocket PC CD. Thanks.
  21. Hello? What I'd like to do is to install XP/Me on a non-C drive. Can I, somehow, force the install to go to a second or a third drive other than the usual first C drive during XP/Me install? The current configuration is that the first drive has a non-Windows operating system and non-Windows boot loader in the MBR, and I want to keep this configuration Thanks.
  22. Great! Thanks, Jeremy.
  23. Hi, I see. Thanks, Jeremy.
  24. Hi Technoguy, Thanks for your opinion.
  25. Hi Zxian, Thanks for your feedback. I found a way to remove the Windows Messenger from the Add/Remove section in the Control Panel. So, Windows and MSN Messengers are two different things, huh? Thanks for the clarification. So then, having Windows Messenger as is, if I try to install MSN Messenger, this install would not upgrade or remove the existing Windows Messenger? Which is more popular, Windows' or MSN's? Thanks.
