  1. Actually, they've got several Vista-specific hotfix packs. Go to http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/, click on "Other Update Packs", select "Windows Vista" and there you go! I am using Fox's Vista vLite Update Integration Pack with Vista Business Edition. Works like a charm!
  2. I've been getting my hotfix packs from RyanVM's site, and I believe this is exactly what you want. RyanVM.net Forums
  3. Thanks for posting this addon! I test and use lots of freeware, but every now and then I miss a good one, like CD Burner XP Pro. Lightscribe support is the only feature missing that I need; but I can still use the free Lightscribe apps that they have available for download from their main site.
  4. x64 Driverpacks: http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewforum.php?id=13 Notes: A few of the download links are broken. The ones I could download contained outdated drivers, several major bugs, and not compatible with the Driverpacks Base. There does not seem to be much x64 support on this site in the last 3 months, I know that most people with AMD64 or EM64T chipsets are still using 32-bit operating systems. There are about a dozen major sites dedicated to x64 hardware/software/driver developement, ask google to show you the way. When purchasing future hardware, check the vendor's website for x64 drivers and support, and then search for reviews posted from people who have already bought the device. I have saved alot of time by letting the internet "Pre-Debug" the hardware and software that I am interested in getting. I can recommend some "Tried and True" x64 system configurations if you are interested. BTW, if you are into Linux at all, they have a much larger user support network, and have developed working x64 drivers for hundreds of components that are not supported under Windows, nor will likely ever be.

Right-click on the file and select "Merge". Power cycle your PC to complete installation of the LmHosts Service (TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper). Notes: This only installs the service into CurrentControlSet. If you run into problems, hit F8 after power cycling your PC and select the option "Last known settings that worked". This installs the service into registry only, you need to verify that lmhsvc.dll is in your system32 directory and that the IPSEC Service is installed and not disabled(set it to manual or auto). Most of you removed this service after hearing about security vulnerabilities relating to the NetBIOS. There are many secure solutions available that do not remove the service or its functionality. Please take a moment to read the following article at Wikipedia.org/NetBIOS. I only hope you do not act this recklessly in other areas of your life, such as attempting to tweak your car's performance by removing parts you think it doesn't really need. LmHosts.reg
  6. Yo. I've tested Vista. I've tested Lycornis and Mandriva. I realized that with the increase in OS complexity, I would have to choose one OS to learn and master. Vista is pretty, sure, but it is just teeming with digital rights management dll's, scripts, and stacks. The nightmare I've faced in stabilizing Vista's installation on my hardware, only to have it totally destroyed beyond hope of recovery after installing a simple, world-renowed anti-virus gave me the push to try linux. You won't believe how much they've advanced in just 100 days. The latest KDE desktops are years ahead of Vista. And with the explosion of .rpm application developement recently, you'll never have to compile a source code ever again. A week put into learning linux is worth a year of troubleshooting Vista.....
  7. The Series 60 Symbian OS 7.1 does not support skinning[7650, 3600, 3650, etc]. A workaround was developed, WildSkinz, but the application (A) only skinned the menu, (B) had a 60% rate of failure with a week of installation, © was incompatable with nearly any other software installed on the same device, including games, ringtones, and other apps, and (D) used up a tremendous amount of system resources, making the device unbearably sluggish. Best thing to do is settle for a custom .midi ringtone and a .jpg desktop image. Themes saw support in all Symbian OS 7.2 and later models, starting with the Nokia 6600. Physical RAM was doubled over previous S60 phones to compensate for higher graphical demands. Trot over to nokiafree.org for the latest breaking info and to iphone-forum.org for software support. Free registration is offered and required to post at either, and well worth your time. B)
  8. ....an orbital period of 10,500 years? Doesn't Earth go through cataclysmic changes about once every 10,000 years, according to geological and archeological data recovered from all over the world? Anyway, I think NEMESIS ought to be a fitting (albeit chilling) name for our newly (re?)discovered solar companion. :: goes skipping off to visit all the religious freaks/conspiracy theory forums ::
  9. Not so fast! You have to tell Windows Setup where to look for the CAB's first! Grab TxtSetup.sif and open it up in NotePad: Goto line 9343 and change: sonic.cab = 3,,,,,,_x,,3,3 *into* sonic.cab = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3 Goto line 9348 and change: plus.cab = 3,,,,,,_x,,3,3 *into* plus.cab = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3 Goto line 9355 and change: mediactr.cab = 3,,,,,,_x,,3,3 *into* mediactr.cab = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3 Save and overwrite the original, grab your CD 2 and copy sonic.cab, plus.cab, and mediactr.cab directly into the i386 folder with the other CAB's like driver.cab and sp2.cab. Clear some junk off the CD by hand or with nLite, burn to CD and you're done! Don't forget to use an authentic Media Center 2005 licence key, or all you will get is a plain 'ol version of Windows XP. Lemme know if you run into trouble or have any questions. B)
