  1. 1. try to logon another user. 2. ipconfig /lushdns or stop/start DHCP Client service to Purges the DNS Resolver cache. Also check if Netbios is enabled seems that Remote access needs it. 3. Apply SP. 4. No firewall and run MSConfig to limit software running. 5. Reset cable modem and router if you have one. 6. Remove and re-install NIC with latest driver. 7. Please give more info on your network ie why do you need remote access for? Also try this: Backup you registry and delete the following if it exists, then reboot. This is used for direct connection type and modem connection, it sometimes screws up. (make sure you have a backup) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CCS\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1- 08002BE10318}\0000
  2. Nothing unusual in your log file. Check if you have a hotfix called KB885250 it's know to give problems with XP file sharing (on the remote unit) Also what OS do you run on the server PC?
  3. There is an interesting threat on this at hxxp://www.hooznet.com/m.p.w.help_and_support/UtSVN-Connection-iWXP.shtml
  4. "Hey guys... just a follow up. I am still able to get to everything like it said two posts ago... but SOMETIMES when I click on some of the subfolders I get the error: "Z:\pictures\trips refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network...." If I try a few times... or more likely just wait a few seconds and click again, I get in??? Freaking Microsoft. I tell ya. If it is not one thing its another. Any ideas? " Could it be your antivirus? Try to disable it for a few seconds or the thumb preview as it seems to happen on a photo folder???
  5. Hi Guys, glad to see that removing the hotfix helped (always on the remote PC). Take care. Pat
  6. Durex, If you could check your system and see if you have the version of files listed by the kb885250 hotfix, we could then try to narrow down the files that have been updated or that are still part of the "old" update. Unfortunatly I don't have a testing unit left for the next 2 weeks so I can't do more work on the RyanVM update.
  7. Stupid question but what dvd burning software is she using?
  8. try system properties ,advanced and then Environment variables there is an entry for path %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;..... check if all the path are correct.
  9. try this it worked for one of my customers. hxxp://www.elcomsoft.com/acpr.html

  11. Hi Folks, Did a clean install with RyanVM pack and got the same problem as with the hotfix, so something is still not right. If someone has the kb895900 fix I would like to try and reinstall it over kb885250 and see if it really fixes the issue. From what I did read kb895900 fixes kb885250 if installed but to my understanding kb895900 in not included in the RyanVM pack? Can someone confirm?
  12. my 2 cents. I build super computers (clusters) and love Linux for what it can do. I also love playing games so I have to use Windows and XP is ok as long as you don't add and remove things to often. Linux seems more stable but there aren't so many home users playing with it as with Windows. I'm glad nothing is perfect or I wouldn't have a job.
  13. Hi, just to confirm, my host PC is running XP pro SP2. The clients are running XP pro and home SP2 and all the ones that had the hotfix on it KB885250 had issues accessing some sub folders or files on the shared drives. Always the same files. I did remove the fix on each of the clients and the problem is gone. I did this 3 times yesterday. I also reinstalled the fix on one unit and the problem was back again. I've disabled the automatic updates and do a manual update every second week (I disable this specific update until I'm sure there is a new update that fixes this problem.) Did someone else try to just remove the hotfix?
  14. I have a friend who also had the problem and called him yesterday eveninig. He just uninstalled the hotfix and it is working now, all folders and files are accessible again.
  15. Try reinstalling your internet coonection, WAN miniport is usually part of it depending on your type of connection (PPOE,ISDN...)
  16. Had the same issue browsing folders from one XP pro to another XP pro, some subfolders or files could not be opened. Had to live with this for the last 3 month and used to copy manually files accross the machines. Just uninstalled security update kb885250 as per http://www.gadgetopia.com/2005/02/16/Windo...teKB885250.html and guess what issue is gone, can access all files. Hope it helps.
