  1. I have a PowerEdge server running Windows 2000 Server and I'm having issues with it blue screening at random times. Sometimes it'll be fine for months, sometimes it'll bsod twice in a week. In device manager I have an Unknown PCI Device under Other Devices which is on IRQ 11. When the machine BSODs it throws up 0x00000044: MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS, I know this is a driver issue with a certain device, but I'm not sure how to go about correcting the problem. I've uninstalled the device, rebooted... same thing. I've tried updating the driver on the device and it fails. Thoughts?

  2. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

    <windows root>\system32\hal.dll

Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

I've seen this error on multiple machines in our network and have tried tons of solutions. The end result for me is has been 1 of 2 things. 1) bad HD 2) OS has to be reinstalled, or in my case... re-imaged

  3. Anyone metioned the possiblity of EMI? I know the ground loop is around the same idea, but it kinda sounds like interference to me. I have the same issue kind of... all my audio cables are running right next to my box past the raptor to my master sub which throws some wicked sounds through my system sometimes. Especially when reading/writing. Just a thought.

  4. I always use ntpasswd when I have a computer with an unknown PW. Read up on how to use it, it'll works like a charm. I have however had one XP machine in probably a hundred which this did not work, I then had to do some more research and ended up finding another app called Wanky in which you load it when doing a windows install when it says press F6 to load 3rd party drivers. I would try the ntpasswd first, dump the SAM accounts, select one, change the password. That will most likely work, if not let me know and I can hook you up with Wanky! ;)

  5. Aight folks, again looking for opinions and thoughts about hardware, this time a HD from Newegg. As everyone, I crave more space. As of now I have the SATA150 74gb Raptor. I was originally dead set on the 500gb SE 16, but jcarle enlightened me to the fact they are to overpriced per gb, and I could just RAID 2x250 for cheaper. Well, for now I think 320GB will do me just fine. Anyone have this drive? Recommendations?

If no one disagrees or has a better solution I'm buying one Monday!! :thumbup

  6. Interesting. How are you testing your varying bandwidth speeds? How long has this been happening? Have you tested both computers at the same time and indepentently? If you have a Router also functioning with switch capabilities you should be losing NO bandwidth. Yes, routers do go bad, but usually after much abuse or power issues. I would recommend anything from Cisco, er, um... Linksys ;)

  7. So the printer is connected to a machine using it over LPT, and now you're sharing the printer over the network and trying to make it accessible to everyone else? Why not just make it a nework printer (if it is capable)? That way you solve your issue. Just add it into the network and map it to the hostname or IP_x.x.x.x and reinstall to all machines on the network.
