For me, it honestly depends on the day and what mood I'm in. Sometimes I'm more willing to help out than others. The problem is, once you gain a reputation for being someone who knows what they're doing, people begin PMing, IMing, or emailing you asking for help rather than posting in the forum. That gets very tiring very quickly. Generally, I stay out of "n00b" threads (I hate that term, I think it's very derogatory). Rather than be a jerk and say "Search id*** " I'll often just hit the back button and let somebody else do it Yes, I have noticed that things are more tense around here than usual, but this isn't the first time things have been this way. Anybody remember good old gosh ? I got so burned out here after awhile that I actually took a roughly 4 month hiatus from the site before coming back and starting to post again. In short, yes, I wish new people would read and follow the rules. It gets very irritating that they often don't. On the other hand, I know all too well how bad IPB's search function is. It's pretty much useless. What that doesn't excuse in my opinion, though, is information that's right in the MSFN unattended guide. That should always be the first place people look for information if you ask me.

The 's' version is one which runs the MSI with the /qn switch, so installation is completely silent. It's a custom one I make for Astalavista.

Well, given that the post was directly above yours, I don't think the address needed to be repeated. And the problem is that I get people posting links to my mirrors directly and then when things change, who do you think they start complaining to? Bottom line is that I asked people to not quote that and you did anyway. I'm not concerned about you taking credit for my work, and this has nothing to do with you mirroring files. It's simply about you posting a link to my FTP after I asked people to not do so.

What part of don't you understand?

OK guys, my FTP server is back up! My website is down, but you can at least browse the directory for the files you need for the time being. Site's back up. Show's over folks. Please don't quote that address as I will be editing this post once my website goes back online.

Yeah, I go to Drexel. And I very much like the way people sprang to the rescue I'd also like to thank the kind gentleman who sent me a little Paypal Christmas present

I might be able to send those shortly. I should be regaining remote access to my desktop system within a couple hours.

Thanks guys for posting mirrors for the time being. I appreciate it The site'll be back on the first of January, thankfully.

buletov has also offered to help me with my hosting issues

REALLY????? YOU DON'T SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a nice temporary solution, but right now I've still got the problem of not having access to my system where all the files actually are. I can't even connect to my site's CPanel right now.

But of course

I really hate my hosting provider. They send me these notifications when I'm getting near my bandwidth limit saying I'm at 80% of my available bandwidth. Then they keep sending those notifications until I hit 100%. You'd think instead of continually telling me "You've reached 80%", they'd let me know that that 80% was closer to 95%! So, sorry about being out of bandwidth. I'm attempting to find some temporary hosting of my files, but since I'm currently home for the holidays, I have extremely limited access to my main system, which has all my MSFN files on it. (wow, that sentence in its first incarnation was nearly impossible to read) So, please bear with me

His batch files can be easily adapted for SP2. My main computer is currently beyond my reach, but I'll post the batch file I use for combining the cabs when I have access to it again in a couple days.

I think that's everything. For some reason, the reg tweak to disable the splash screen doesn't seem to work unless you enter the preferences and then close them again.

If you would have taken the time to read the thread, you'd know that the reboot problems are well known about already. The good news is that I have yet to see a reboot in my early playing around with the updated release. I'll probably post that new release within a couple days (going to be having very limited internet access shortly).

if its not too much trouble, could you post a list of the optimizations youve added? thx Pretty much all of the registry optimizations given in this thread, except one or two things. I left the purchase acrobat reader option enabled, for example (I personally don't see a point in disabling it if it's still there). I have the EULA accepted already, ads disabled, automatic updating disabled, splash screen (theoretically) disabled, yahoo bar disabled. That's all I remember off the top of my head.

Besides making an administrative install point and directly calling the MSI file, I don't think what you want to do is possible as it stands right now. Of course, the disadvantage to that way is that you'd lose all the compression. I'm hoping Igor will eventually implement the ability to directly execute MSI files with his 7zip SFX installers. If that were possible, you could config it to just call the MSI (a "normal" install) and then you could add switches to the end of the exe call, which would be passed to the MSI (which is the current default behavior). Unfortunately, the way we have to do it now, passing down switches won't work since startx.exe is the actual program being called.

I should point out that my installer's MSI is hacked by default to include most of the registry tweaks described in this thread. My suggestion would be to install it and see if there's any that you like which aren't in mine and add them as needed. EDIT: Sorry about the Engrish

My switchless 7.0 installer is up at the usual location.

My 7zip installer is about 20.4MB

While what you posted is basically correct, you might want to reference the correct docs for the version you're using next time. One thing that's changed is that NETSCAPE6 is no longer a valid command. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/...ide/silent.html

Like my Acrobat 6.x installers, I'm going to be adding a bunch of registry tweaks to the MSI as well (like no Auto Update, no Ads, etc). First round of testing went very well with just a few changes needing to be made. I'll hopefully have it out later today.

The NetOpSystems thing has been in their installers since 5.0. It has nothing to do with that. There's also a startup item installed which supposed speeds up Acrobat. My bet is it's similar to the feature you can enable with the Mozilla Suite to load some DLLs on Windows startup to reduce loading time. From what I can tell, it is NOT a replacement for Acrobat Speedup.
