thats the way to use your install fu arron. As for me I ran accros a small batch file that creates shortcuts for me. I also ran accross how to make them from an inf file you can guess how I'll be doing my shortcuts if I make any. No more copying for me accept for the ones in quick launch. Well and come to think about it there has to be away to make those with an inf also.

Hm does that mean that it should only be used to make isos for wnindows based instelation cd's or does it mean only to be used by micrsoft internaly for building cd's? I think I know I'm just trying to make sure that the meaning was clear to others.

Im not sure but how do I make sure it is post component register? If I'm correct the way I have it now would do it that way as all the components are registered then it starts the hotfixes and then it starts the cmdlines.txt. I would be running the actual installer from the cmdlines.txt so it should be ok. I wont have it installing at the same time as the hotfoxes either but right after. Would that be correct or not?

ok Thanks. I'm looking at dx9 right now to slipstream it. I was thinking about just adding the files and the cat like I do with the hotfixes and then just install like I do now. I want to make sure that the current hotfix compiler is stable for now though.

How to do raid drivers and hotfixes correctly.
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Device Drivers
Just looked at this and it is not a critical update. It is a recommended update. I need to stress this again this script is setup to install critical updates only. If it does happen to work wiht recommended updates then it is only that you are fortunate. Recommended updates are not always intended by micrsoft even to be slipstreamed. -
How to do raid drivers and hotfixes correctly.
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Device Drivers
I want to add here that this script is not for windows update things persay it is only for security related hotfixes. I guess it could apply to critical updates also. The things that are listed under windows update as just windows xp updates are not intended to be instaled this way. This is only so you have a secure system after install not to slipstream every windows update into place. Now having said that. I have talked to another memeber here that works at micrsoft about slipstreaming other bits and pieces that are normally just windows updates like .net 1.1 and dx9 into the installer and not even those can be done cleanly so you would be best off not trying to do those with the scripts I have posted here. -
I would like to note here that for me also I downlaoded one and hacked it to get mine. I did this because I wanted his smaller fonts and also becasue I wanted all the text on the left to be on one line. Well it is still on two lines on my install I hate this. I tried removeing the little graphics next to the text but well dont do it the installer really hates it and gives you a naasty looking black box were that text should be.

How to do raid drivers and hotfixes correctly.
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Device Drivers
this is the link for that thing kb817778 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817778 it is not strictly a hotfix it does way more than that as it upgrades major parts of your tcpip stack and just by looking at waht it does. If you guys dont know ipv6 and nat address translation menas that whenever you do anything on the interenet you can be tracked by the mac address of your hardware. As for mac address's every netwrok card or modem or any piece that lets you communicate with the interent has a unique address. This is called a mac address. With that patch they can track everything you do back exactly to you. I don't do a bunch of file sharing but if you do avoid that hotfix like the plague. It will allow you ot be tracked by the hardware in your computer. Now as for the mdac hotfix working or not. Yes it does worl with my latest script but it is a little more work to get installed. Now first thing is you will need to make a few directories. $OEM$\$1\install\tmp $OEM$\$1\install\system $OEM$\$1\install\system\hotfixes3 now put the mdac hotfix into hotfixes3 you will need to use the shortend one that do.cmd makes for you which can be found in directory 3. Do will automaticly shorten it for you if it not already. and last but not least here is the last do.cmd CLS @echo off :: setlocal enableextensions echo. > log.txt :: check if hotfix file exists if not exist 1\*.exe echo No hotfixes present. 2>&1 | bin\mtee/+ log.txt if not exist 1\*.exe echo Please add your hotfixes. 2>&1 | bin\mtee/+ log.txt if not exist 1\*.exe goto _end :: create folders What's Drive Letter of the Installation CD?
webmedic replied to GreatKent's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
IN this thread you will see how to use 2cdrom's but if you look close at it you will get some good ideas how to find your cdrom drive from a batch file http://board.MSFN.org/index.php?showtopic=8381 -
Easy way to install all hotfixes...
webmedic replied to eversor's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
this is a good place to start. http://board.MSFN.org/index.php?showtopic=8363 -
ah ok the way I do true slipstreaming is to integrate it into the installer just like the service pack. So I would not use the other way any longer either. There are a few exceptions though that have to be done the other eway. like the security fis for windows media player 9. Since you have to have wmp9 installed first there is not way to include this hotfix into the installer so it has to be added later.

How to do raid drivers and hotfixes correctly.
webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Device Drivers
be patient I have the smae problem but I can tell you it goes by much faster when installing on bare hardware. In virtualpc it prababy sits for about 45 minutes at 13 minutes it's normal. -
the classic style themes are done in the winnt.sif like so [shell] DefaultStartPanelOff = Yes DefaultThemesOff = Yes ; defaultthemesoff = yes will override this setting ; CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%systemroot%\Resources\Themes\MyTheme.theme" as for the other I found running it for the second time that it will indeed work ok you just need to give it longer before reboot. So I'm upping mine to 120 second before reboot.

hm well the one time I tried it my first_boot.cmd was in the wrong directory and so I initialized it by hand after the shell was loaded. So I see were this is going. I have a solution for this though. Havd a cmd file that runs that vbs script dump it into the statup folder. Then after it runs the vbscript have it delete itself. I'll try it out now to see if that works. it should though.

ok I dont have an first_boot.inf that does all the work for guirunonce. It does behind the scenes stuff and it starts up my apps.inf. My apps.inf then as it's very last step to run cutomize.cmd. Customize.cmd does all my cleanup work and as it's very last step it does this. When all this completes of course at returns controle back over to first_boot.cmd which I then use this in. shutdown -r -f -t 60 -c "Windows XP will now restart in 1 minute, this will give enough time for the shortcuts to update and for the shell to fully load before its ready to restart!" I find that one minute is just long wnough to do all this stuff that the quick_launch.vbs neds to do. Now this is under virtualpc so under reall ghardware it would neot need this much time but 1 minute is still good for me. Then the system reboots when it comes back up all is good to go. That vb script is not that hard to do. I also found I have better use by running the vb scripts from batch files than from inf files.

well it's showing up now. Wow that is quite a page of things I have never seen one that big most of them are only little ones showing about 4 or 5 switches. What is that hotfix for? -

Yes Isee there were afew for me also that can not be slipstreamed like this. For instance if that is hte hotfix for windows media player 9 well of course it has to be installed first before you can install a hot fix for it. so it will have to be installed after you get into windows and after wmp9 is installed. -
I'm not sure what you mean doeing all what would not be worth it?

webmedic replied to webmedic's topic in Device Drivers
it just means that you have the hotfix in the wrong setup folder when you run do.cmd. -
yup just fine I use this comand in my cmd file. start cmdow /run /hid cscript %systemdrive%\install\system\Tools\quick_links.vbs you could just use this though start cscript %systemdrive%\install\system\Tools\quick_links.vbs cmdow is a little progy that you can use to hide windows.

well I got that when I was trying to slipstream sp1 into xp pro. I had allot of problems at first so I went back to my original install and started over again without sp1. The problem was that I kept my txtsetup.sif and guess what it has lines in there that tell the installer it is for sp1. Since I no longer had the sp1 files on the cdrom the installer would go no further. You need to use the version of txtsetup.sif that is for your version of windows xp. On a side note if you have raid controlers that you have setup in txtsetup.sif then those will obviously need to be redone also with the older txtrsetup.sif.
