  1. First off Jeremy PLZ use eazyshare. You can find a link in my sig.

You have been asked to do this many time in the past.

    Respect the rules:

    3. Please do not post screenshots within threads that exceed 300x200 in resolution and 150kb in size. Provide a link to the image and host it on your own webspace if possible. If you do not have personal webspace try Eazyshare . Always keep in mind we have several members on 56k and loading a thread with a few large screenshots can be quite slow for them.
    6. If you need to attach something, it'd be great if you could find a host for the file. Please only attach something if you absolutely have no other option. This will help keep the size of the database down and keep MSFN running smoothly for our members.

As for your issues, i kinda of am let to belive this might be casued by an over nlited xp....consider living some more of the critical windows components.

However if it was working b4 its strage that it just stoped out of nowhere.

I would consider a repair or reinstall

  2. Im a big fan of the xbox myself...

I used them as linux server, Media center, and legacy gaming console replacement.

    However:

    2. Use some common sense. Don't post your question under multiple topics. Think before posting and choose the right topic for you question or answer. When posting, have something to say, not just "My First post!" or "Cool site!!!" We sort of have the idea by now :-).
    10. We do not encourage the raising of post counts or creating threads that state you have reached a post count milestone, unlike other forums that do. Please remember there's no prizes in store for those with a very high number of posts!

    Thanks

  3. @Drew why don't get maxtor?

talking from my personal experience i've had 3 Maxtor HD on my home (3GB IDE66, 10GB IDE100 and 120GB SATA), no problems at all with'em

Cause Im a tech/sales and in the past 3 years I have seen about 500% more Maxtors fail then WD or Seagate.

Just going off numbers not personal pref or brand loyality

  4. Depends.

    First off...just DONT get Maxtor.

If your getting a WD id say no..OEM and retail both get you a 3year...but if you really want the drive format tools on floppy and and ide cable, then get the Retail...but then again you will pay more.

Segate Retails generally do have thye extended 5 year however segates that DO have them are generally more expensive..and in all honestly i rarly keep drives longer then the 3 years....

However, bottem line its up to you.

  5. Topic Clean up

    OEM vs Retail:

-Some oem drives have limited warrenties

-Oem generally only come in static bags. No box, cables, or instructions

    Side Notes:

All Maxtor drives are 1 year limited warenty retail and oem

All Western digital JB aka Special Edition drives have 3 year warenties oem or retail

Seagate oem have 3 year while their retail has 5 year (typically)

  7. Sp2 really isent ment to be installed over the top of a currently running Xp.

Like others have stared follow the slipstrem guides on MSFN homepage that can help you avoid these types of issues.

Commenly when a systems has a prexisting install of windows, the user has obtained some adware, spyware malware and even viruses. In addition to that a mass amount of aplications that are not fully supported by Sp2.

When you install ontop of this existing mess of software many issues(Like the problems your finding)

Reinstall with a slipstreamed Sp2 Xp and you will be golden

  8. Try using the run command "sfc /scannow " (without the "")

It will request the Xp Cd. From there it will replace windows most critical files.

PS. Turn off caps...we can all read without them

    ;)

  10. Bad sectors are either sections of the hard Drive that have damaged or stacked up corrupted data.

Windows will automatically section off these sectors as to avoid any isses with writing data to these damaged regions of the Hard Drive.

Commenly a Low level format or Zero fill can fix many of these isses. Due to the fact that commenly the drive is not damaged...it just thinks it is...

Find out the maker of the drive and download their disk utilities...commenly they have a Low level formater and diagnosic boot disk that can fix or inform you about the drive.
