I tried playing Celeste on the Vista extended kernel (Celeste supports Win7 minimum) and the error I got was exactly this: "The procedure entry point BCryptDeriveKeyPBKDF2 could not be located in dynamic link library bcrypt.dll" Any alternatives to this entry point?

Windows 11 has officially been released to eligible Windows 10 systems and new computers today. You can find the MCT on Microsoft's site. Support lengths go as: Windows 11, 21H2 Home & Pro: October 10, 2023 Windows 11, 21H2 Enterprise & Edu: October 8, 2024 You can download and install it on any PC right now, but to get it through Windows Update it may take a while and will only let you on compatible hardware. I'll be testing it on an 8250U with Bitlocker to see how the experience on the stable build goes. This isn't really a beta software anymore, so I don't think it fits this part of MSFN.

We are roughly 2 weeks until the release of Windows 11. On the day it comes out I will be testing it on my PC to see how it runs for me. Based currently, it just seems like a reskinned version of 10. PC Health Check says my PC is 100% compatible, so that's nice at least. They added support for the 7th gen CPUs....but only for the Surface product that they are still selling. Classic. But whatever, if Microsoft will screw over your updates because your CPU is "affected by Spectre/Meltdown" when in reality it was only an issue to enterprises because a normal consumer wont notice any performance downsides from the Spectre/Meltdown patches. I wish 11 was more of a decent upgrade to do like iOS 15 is. I am already on 15 and it runs pretty much the same as 14. Some improvements to notifications that I like too. One thing I am excited to see though is how it runs compared to 1904x. 1904x has had many issues for me over the period of time it has been out so I am interested in seeing how 11 runs, and possibly use it later on depending on how my experience goes.

I bought Celeste on the Microsoft Store so I could play it on my Xbox. There could be times where I am not on 16299 or later (for testing, experimenting, or just messing around) and I would like to be able to play it on versions before then. Is there a way to install the app forcefully? The Steam version and other ones run just fine all the way back to Windows 7.

anything 1904x (2004, 20H2 and 21H1) has huge issues with integrity. It runs fine for the first month, then after a while it starts decaying with broken C++ and update histories disappearing. This is because 19041.1 was finalized in December 2019, making all those versions about 2 years old now, with almost 24 cumulative updates available. Avoid 1607. Update system is extremely flawed and its more wasted time than anything. 1507 is possible but no .NET 4.8 so many apps don't work anymore. Same with 1511. I would say 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903 or 1909 was the period of time where Windows 10 was actually looking somewhat OK.

As Windows 8 killed off Aero support, we were still able to add it back. Fortunately does not appear to be the same for the taskbar. Open Shell does not hook correctly anymore and its possible it never will be. The taskbar was completely overhauled and is now UWP. Press F7 and you can find out. Action Center + Clock + Generic icons have been merged, removing the ability to hide certain ones you want to see which also kills off t-clock. Not sure if these programs will be able to fix the issues, but if they aren't, they might as well be dead software at this point. DWM also has been overhauled with no sun in sight for bigmuscle to even get 2004 operating. As of right now, Aero, Classic start menus and customizable system trays are gone for good. Also, Win11 is worse for multiple monitors. They removed the clock on secondary taskbars, which is something I heavily used and will not get used to not having it. It makes no sense to do so. Windows 11 is just another release of disappointments and killed software.

Appears that UUPDump fails to integrate the .51 update and leaves you with a weird leak + Win11 insider build of 22000.1. Missing some features but more similar to the leaked build. UUPDump sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't.

TPM 2.0 is a requirement on Microsoft's site now. TPM 1.2 is no longer sufficient.

11 is now officially destroying a lot of computers. They updated the hardware requirements. Plus, they also mentioned that you must have a CPU in the supported processors list to run 11. 11 is officially having a worse announcement than 10.

Now we have two things I absolutely hate. I am not upgrading to Sh**dows 11. Requirement of TPM 1.2 (which basically kills most computers older than 2014) And now I present.... Microsoft misleading users!!! Microsoft made a list of "supported" CPUs for Windows 11 when in reality they aren't the full supported list. They are misleading people into upgrading their PC because its "unsupported" even though its only from 5 years ago for more sales and in turn more product keys purchased. That is how they are gonna make money from this. There is no reason why Windows 11 wouldn't even run on a Core 2 Duo.

Alignment to the bottom of the screen is the only location allowed Apps can no longer customize areas of the taskbar News and Interests has evolved Basically this means goodbye to taskbar on any other side of the screen (SOMETHING THAT HAS EXISTED SINCE 95) and possibly taskbar customization like Open Shell, StartIsBack and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker if we cannot customize the taskbar anymore with 3rd party apps. As well as that, News and Interests was ruined in just a month. It was somewhat decent on the taskbar but now you need a touchscreen to get somewhere to it, unless you keep Widgets. PLUS, the taskbar now default center is going to cause so many headaches with friends and family. It really should default to the left because the majority of Windows users prefer it that way and have used it that way for 24 years. Centered taskbar is a very, very, very isolated feature that I believe should be something you set, not something that IS set.

I agree though. Windows 11 was a lot of hype. it was something new. But now that all the hype has drained and I actually have some clarity, its an improvement from 10 UI wise and under the hood, but nothing of it ever comes close to how just flipping awesome Windows 7 was. It performed as good on hardware from its time as 11 does to hardware from nowadays. Windows 11 is worrying me now. I'm required to use secure boot, TPM 2.0 and UEFI and a majority of my systems don't support 11. To be fair, a lot of my systems are about 10 years old now and you couldn't run Win10 1507 on a PC from 2005. I'm not really wanting to upgrade to 11 right now. It was all just a big hype train like all big companies do but I just want what was already perfect back.

Now we just wait until next week for the first previews, then we can go more in-depth with it and see how it runs. So far the biggest problem I can see is the compatibility problems.

32 bit support is something everyone else has done. Linux apps, macOS chipset & apps, Microsoft was the last one. If you have a PC thats still 32-bit Microsoft wants you to either upgrade or keep Win10. Likely that PC is from 2010 or older. Legacy is still here, I have installed it on MBR Legacy (at least the leaked one) and it worked fine It will require a internet connection & MSFT account for the Home version. Pro and others don't require it It does look very different, but it kinda looks like an updated version of 7 / Vista with some differences. The widgets window though is just a pathetic excuse. They aren't even widgets, its just News and Interests on the side of your screen. I'm not saying this is the best version of Windows. I'm saying its an improvement from 10.

So far, according to their site: Windows 11 is NOT a required upgrade Windows 11 will require TPM 2.0 & will not offer a 32-bit option anymore Windows 10 will indeed be supported until October 2025 Windows 11 will be available next year. It introduces a new UI, action center and taskbar. The insider releases will be seen next week. In my opinion, this release may go a lot easier than 7 to 10 did since they aren't requiring an upgrade. Actually, the hardware requirements are bogus and completely overrated. hahaha, i just finished watching an episode all about that today. many people, including me, are stuck with it because most people grew up with Windows. Remember, its been the leader of the pack since id say 1995. microsoft had money and they had skills, they got the OEMs to include the crap and then eventually everyone grew up with it. many dont want to switch, they have used windows their whole lives.

My full opinions of Windows 11 are now confirmed at the moment. Subject to change on announcement day, but right now: Windows 11 is the same if not worse than Windows 10. All this "Windows is back!!" stuff is all a bunch of hype gain. Many factors have changed in 11 that will definitely make me come to say I will not be upgrading to it at any point in time right now. Loss of taskbar context menu (Win+X still exists, though) Taskbar size has increased, causing it to have less screen real estate and also caused the clock to be crammed. Windows 11 on my systems are less performant than a bloated 10 install The TPM 2.0 requirement may destroy easy-installation on my systems if it's not just a internal feature Nothing much changed under the hood meaning its like the difference of 8.0 to 8.1 or Vista to 7 Start menu is even worse with all the bullsht removed (Recommended sucks, the start menu tiles suck too) meaning that I will use Open Shell more often now. The 10 start menu was somewhat usable with all the bs removed WDDM 3.0 is now introduced in this meaning that staying back on 10 will slowly become hell because of a possible DirectX 13 release? Future update system may have changed to an Apple style one, meaning in 2022 we may get Windows 12, so on in 2023.. Knowing Microsoft we will be forced on Windows 11 just like GWX in 2015 Because so many people are Windows 10 shills, Windows 11 is getting massive amounts of love and affection even before its official announcement Welp, another forced upgrade and depreciation of what makes Windows decent is upon us. This time, less people support legacy Windows so I expect this one to be more of a hell for people who don't like 10 or 11.

Alright I am not sure about the performance being an improvement. I just did a test for myself and even with a clean installed 11 with a 10 with tons of apps, 10 still outbeat Windows 11 by 200 points on passmark. Not that big of a difference but its nice to know that 11 will slightly down your performance.

According to win32 over at the extended kernel project, he said something about how 21996.1 being surpassing in performance than Vista. Time to test it for myself to find out.
