  1. 1. I use Windows 10, Linux and 7 occasionally. I am planning to possibly move back to full Windows 7 at this point, or Windows 8.1. I can't use Server unfortunately because of how fun AMD is.

    2. No.

    3. Windows is NOT a service Microsoft. You use telemetry to collect our information and sell it to advertisers. I will not pay you with my personal information, which is MY PROPERTY, to use Windows 10.

What power profile you use? Balanced, power saving or high performance? If high performance try set minium cpu state to 1-5% instead of 100%. That caused R7 2700X run hot and full clock speed on me with windows 7

    I always used Balanced.

Windows 10 itself works great. If you try and tweak it to "optimize" by disabling things, you're just making more problems.

It's not a good idea to disable Microsoft Defender. Hell, it's been the best antivirus all year.

This meme sums things up nicely about people who tweak and optimize, only to break their OS:

We should be able to customize the OS to how the user wants it. Not how Microsoft wants it.

Yes, the UAC lag you are experiencing is exactly what I was seeing.

That other issue, I have only experienced when something is capturing my screen. Has something to do with DWM. I also would look into figuring that out.

This is the logon / logoff lag I am meaning: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CjWJbCCMDM7WERfxGpUmiiBAywucTElA/view?usp=sharing

Since you still haven't posted specs, I can only ask: is there any mechanical vs electrical considerations with the motherboard?

    Specifically:
    i5 8400
    16GB DDR4
    250GB Samsung NVMe SSD
Gigabyte flavor of AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

Ah, I suspected Radeon. Radeon outside Windows 10 and Linux can be a mixed bag, but a friend and I decided Adrenalin 19.12 (with a RX 580) takes more kindly to 7 rn. Care to give that build a try and report back your experience with it?

I just tried this driver. The UAC lag is definitely fixed and the logon / logoff lag is improved, but it is not a smooth fade, which it should be if it was "hardware accelerated"

It can be hard to find out, but it is possible your video card does not have a UEFI BIOS or support GOP. Post the model of your video card if you can't find out if it does.

I use a Sapphire RX 580, which I had to get because it has a BIOS switch between legacy and UEFI, and I am still using a legacy system. At the time, it was the only 8 GB video card I could find that supported legacy. Of course, having the switch means that I could use it on UEFI if/when I decide to go that route.

My GPU 100% supports UEFI and GOP. If I set my UEFI setting to "Windows 8/10 WHQL" and disable CSM support, it uses my monitors full 1080p. I also see the GOP output settings there. I have the Gigabyte flavor of the RX 5700 XT. (Navi 10 XT)

  8. In my experience, Windows 10 met my needs a while ago. That was back when I was not informed of the privacy problems, etc.

It really is the biggest Pros and Cons OS that was probably made. You have a lot of pros, like modern hw support and program support, but you also have a lot of cons, may be really buggy, and privacy concerns.

I really have run out of options tbh. We are just forced out of our will to have our information spied on. And even when we try to stop that, they come out with this "You can't disable defender" and "Hosts file blocking telemetry" things.

  9. Z370. RX 5700 XT. 16GB DDR4. NVMe SSD.

My friend who has an RX 580 does not have tha lag issue. If you are wondering, this is what it looks like: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CjWJbCCMDM7WERfxGpUmiiBAywucTElA/view?usp=sharing

I was using the latest Adrenalin 2020 drivers. My other Windows 7 era machine does not have this lag problem.

I am also working on getting it booting with full UEFI. Whenever I disable the vga driver, the AMD driver does not take over of the displays. I hear things, but the display still says "Starting Windows"

Sleep doesn't take long, it was an issue I previously had.

I have an Active Directory Domain. It pushes out power options equal to all my computers, so the power options between W10 and W7 are the same. The weird part is, my CPU and GPU on idle draw the same power as on W10 on idle, but I am still drawing more power from something.

  10. I already made this post but I didn't detail it enough and it was too long ago anyway.

    My system:
    i5 8400 (Z370 HD3 by Gigabyte)
    AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

    My issues:

    - UAC takes a long time to dim the screen

    - Login / Logout is not smooth (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CjWJbCCMDM7WERfxGpUmiiBAywucTElA/view?usp=drivesdk)

    - Changing theme is very slow, sits there on Please Wait for minutes on end

    - Changing resolution takes a while, screen flashes and windows move around a lot

    - Bluetooth Xbox One controller drivers????

Other than that I was able to gain the scrolling on inactive windows with KatMouse. Best program ever.

Noticed that some of my older games run natively on 7, was a bug plus for me.

For some reason sleep does not take long anymore. It goes to sleep faster than 10 does now.

  11. First point, my Xbox One controller worked great on bluetooth right out of the box. Never did before.

    Some problems,

    - Login / Logout animation is clunky. Screen flashes alot, isnt a smooth fade

    - Power usage is REALLY high, on W10 idle its 70w, Linux is 60, and on 7, its 125W idle. 125W is what I got gaming on 10.

    - Sleep takes a long time to get into

Any way to fix these issues?

  12. I have used 10 ever since it came out. 10 sucked when it came out but I never realized it, but now realizing how unstable it is and how 7 honestly is more reliable, I am deciding to try to use 7 now.

Some of the features of 10 I like, so this is them:

    - Modern task manager

    - Better aero snap (you can choose what to snap)

    - Aero snap on multi-monitor (i cant snap to the right side of left monitor of there is a right monitor connected)

    - Scrolling on unfocused windows

    - Windows 10 style Command Prompt

Is it possible to mod 7 to meet those features i like? Also, my system is a Z370 and I know that my system will work 100%, but there is some stupid Intel Management engine stuff that shows up that I can't get rid of in Device Manager.
