  1. Apparently, the installer says it has no effect on VLC, which uses its own *private* codec packs. It does enhance WMP's ability, though. I don't find anything when I look up VLC codec pack, though. Also, regardless of whether I choose WMP or VLC as default, I get Unable to register DLL/OCX: RegSrv32 failed with exit code 0x3. This was for IcarosThumbnailProvider. I clicked Ignore and that was it, setup finished. And "The path 1385 does not exist or is not a directory". When I try using WMP to play really anything, I just get WMP encountered an unexpected error. I tried again setting the K-Lite thing as the default player, and it still can't play anything! Neither WMP nor this Media Player can play *anything* when installed. At least, VLC could play some things. Not many, but some things. Anyways, media playback and compatibility is still quite poor. Also, I noticed the cool animations in WMP9 don't play. Do they on yours, or is that just an inevitable incompatibility? The Notepad++ uninstaller also does not work. However, it seems about 60% or 70% of uninstallers do work. I was able to uninstall Audacity 2.0.6 and load 2.1.1 onto it. 7-Zip uninstaller works. version 16.04 does not require a reboot but 9.2 (2010) does.
  2. The only thing I unchecked were the Firefox/some other browser plugins. The only thing unchecked by default besides that was Reset default preferences. I installed everything else. Odd! Your W2K definitely likes you more than mine likes me... I also had a Chromium4WIN2K file sitting around. It did actually install Chrome! Or Chromium, rather. I have Chromium version 52, so slightly beyond Chrome 49, I suppose. No HTTPS sites work. Only HTTP. I guess this isn't fixable? I followed the instructions on a video and installed the 201709 roots update but that didn't do it, either. I then installed FF ESR 52.9. Works like a charm, even YouTube videos play! Honestly, I would settle for this, but I don't like the look. It's just too modern for W2K, if that makes any sense, I want something that looks a little bit older. But good to have regardless, just in case. Going to try Serpent and New Moon next. Also, about WSUS offline. It took an hour and a half to actually do its thing, and then when I try running the client: ERROR: Unsupported Operating System (w2k). Ending WSUS Offline Update at 21:28:33.73... So much for that...
  3. Not available, but 9.2.5 is. Yup, in my testing, this was the first one that "worked". I didn't bother testing the inbetween ones that said they needed Vista. Not worth it to me. Right, 7Zip is one of those things where it matters whether it works or not and that's about it. VLC and FileZilla are different. Also, FWIW, VLC 1.1 on vanilla W2K can't play MP4 files, either, failing with "Could not read file". So, 3.0.8 on W2K with KernelEx is essentially the same in terms of ability as 1.1 without it.
  4. I had to use NNN4NT5 again to spoof as XP before either would install. Otherwise they whined I needed XP SP2. I just tried 3.0.5. It worked as much as 1.1 did. Music is fine, and most videos are fine... EXCEPT MKV, once again! Nothing seems broken, apart from MKV. Unlike vanilla 2K with 1.1, there's no error, after a few seconds, audio just stops and a second later the picture is gone. So it's no more or less functional really than 1.1, which is a shame. When I opened up 3.0.5 it offered to update to 3.0.8, which is the latest for Windows 10 right now I think. I clicked No, of course. I wonder what broke VLC between 3.0.5 and 3.0.6. Either way, there's not any functional difference between 1.1 and 3.0.5 as far as I can tell. Of course, no reason to not use the newer one, I guess, as it probably has some security updates that aren't obvious. I also installed 3.0.0, same thing. Both 3.0.0 and 3.0.5 play AVI videos fine, just not MKV. Considering that I'm 99.9% sure that 3.0.5 on a newer version of Windows would play MKV fine, it seems like it's inability to play MKV files is not part of VLC, but rather part of Windows. W2K fundamentally can't play MKV files. Ideas? Also, when trying to uninstall VLC, well, you can't. A command window opens and flashes briefly, then closes. I suspect most uninstallers of XP only programs are probably broken. Not a real issue, since there's no reason to uninstall the last known working version of common software like VLC, but good to know. I restored and just to see, I tried 3.0.8, the very latest VLC. Exact same as 3.0.5 and 3.0.0! It plays WAV music and AVI videos just fine! Still no MKV! And since 3.0.8 on Windows 10 plays MKV, that confirms it's the OS at fault, not VLC. Why do you say VLC 3.0.8 doesn't play video? It just did for me. UPDATE: Aha, 3.0.8 does not play MP4 videos. Did not try that until just now. Ditto for 3.0.5. I can confirm that both can play AVI videos, though, interesting. And ditto for 3.0.0. Even 3.0.0 is "broken" in the sense that it cannot play MP4 files. On 3.0.0 only, I tested mp3, and mp3 works. Also, 1.1 on vanilla W2K can't play MP4 videos, so 3.0.8 is not any worse off. But, neither is it better in terms of functionality. Only security, probably. 3.25.0 says it requires Vista or newer to run, let alone XP. So I don't know what's up there. 3.22.2.2 also said it requires Vista but at least offered the option to continue installing it even though it was unsupported. I get the same error I think, the procedure entry point InitalizeConditionVariable could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll The uninstaller for FileZilla DID work though, nice improvement over VLC. The same warning happened up all the way back through 3.8.1, which all said they required Vista or newer. 3.8.0 is the first one that just opened. I installed 3.8 and I didn't do any actual SFTPing but I went around the interface and it seems to work. So 3.8.0 is the last working with KernelEx. Still good enough for me, since 3.8.0 has synchronized browsing and 3.0.11 does not. I tried 2.2.8 and this time one of the MP4s gave me VLC could not read the file. (Bad file descriptor). Conclusion: 2.2.8, 3.0.0, 3.0.5, and 3.0.8 (latest) are all basically equal broken/working. It's possible though that the issue is not VLC but rather missing codecs - in which case, it's likely 3.0.8 might "work". So, what can 3.0.0 do that 3.0.8 can't? When I try installing 19.02 alpha, I just get ERROR. Ditto for 19.00. 16.04, which works in vanilla W2K, obviously works with KernelEx. So no difference between with the Kernel and w/o for 7Zip.
  5. Doesn't work. Office tab is only 2013 and 2016 and "legacy Office" only has 2010. 2007 does not appear anywhere. I guess I need all the updates from SP3, hence the tool? An unofficial SP4 for Office 2007 might be nice. Come to think of it, a service pack released from MSFT right whenever extended support ends, for all those continuing to use the OS. Okay, I'll give that a try and see if MKVs work. I think 1.1 just didn't have MKV support. The link on the page says it didn't work though (from MSFN). I'm not sure if I have those checkboxes specified enabled, probably not if that's not the default. I tried it and it didn't work. By tried, I mean I tested each of the portable installs down and down until one worked, and then I installed the full software. I did that for a few different programs, including 7Zip. They claimed to still support 2K but it didn't seem like the very latest one did. Oops, well as long as it's about W2K! I do need to fix the encryption issues though. Any thoughts on what I should try now, esp. since WSUS offline doesn't work? In theory, since there are no more updates to O2K7, all the updates are somewhere and could be manually downloaded. At least the relevant ones, but I'm not sure where. MSFT is pretty good at hiding and deleting stuff once they no longer like it.
  6. I've never been able to get Windows Update to work. I can finally load a page, but it just redirects to something saying your browser is not supported, all wonky formatting and everything. Well, I ought to have it then and it ought to work, but it doesn't. Weird. I've tried a number of codec packs, including that one. None of them worked, and they all turned out to be more like bloatware/adware/crapware/malware than legitimate software. In fact, one of them screwed things up so badly I had to completely restore Windows. Terrible experience! VLC 3? Wow. I only tried 1.1 on vanilla W2K and it didn't work. These are the latest versions for vanilla W2K: Adobe Reader 9.5 7Zip 16.04 PuTTY 0.67 FileZilla 3.0.11.1 VideoLan VLC 1.1 So VLC can be upgraded past 1.1 with KernelEx, even all the way to the very latest release (3.0.8)? What would really be nice is a newer FileZilla. 3.0.11.1 lacks support for synchronized browsing, which makes server transfers a real pain. Ditto for PuTTY, since KiTTY was forked off a version of PuTTY that had dropped W2K support.
  7. Can't be. I've used this same Word document since 2012. It's successfully openable on Word 2010, Word 2013, Word 2016, Word 2019, and Office 365 Word (basically Word 2019). I also want to say I could open it when I tried this on XP, but I'm not positive. Maybe I didn't try it. But it seems it did change between 2007 and 2007 SP3 or 2010, but not since then. Any idea where to get the encryption pack (High Encryption Pack)? When I look it up, the first result is "Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack - Free download" from cnet, but that looks sketchy. This site also confused things by saying I already have it, which also doesn't make sense: https://www.petri.com/download_w2k_high_encryption_pack Wait, you mean the good copy of riched20.dll from the original ISO files or the HFSLIP files? So basically, KernelEx replaces the good DLL with a bad DLL, and it has to be changed back? Odd that it does that... The broken DLL is a lot larger than the good one, too. Also, can you play MKV files in your W2K? VLC always gave me some kind of error, is a codec needed?
  8. What? My SP3 installer exe is only 351 MB. How large was yours? That's what I found too. SP3 is greyed out for change/remove. I haven't tried that, but I'm referring to open document not encrypted on this PC. If you encrypt it in a newer version of Word and try to open it there, does it work for you? Also, based off of your suggestions and what we've tried, we put this guide together: https://w2k.phreaknet.org/guide/ Not 100% comprehensive yet, because I need to figure out what is up with encryption and I haven't even opened Outlook yet... I'm dreading that. What do you think? The goal was to make it as comprehensive as possible, so if anyone wants to do this in the future, nothing is left to guesswork and it's all laid out. Hopefully, more people will be able to use Windows 2000 then, especially as people are led to believe they need to stop using Windows 7 soon.
  9. Uh, as soon as I did that, this dialog popped up that said: Windows File Protection Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original version of these files. Insert your Service Pack 4 CD now. Uh, thanks Microsoft, but no thanks. The options are "Retry", "More Information", and "Cancel". Thankfully, I could click cancel. Not like Windows 10, where the only options are "OK" and "OK!" Good news! This did it! I can now type in the dialog. I activated Office and proceeded to open a file (no barriers when opening Word, it's awesome!) I happened to choose an encrypted file and got this: You might receive this message if you attempt to open an encrypted document that was created with releases beginning with the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2. Installing the latest service pack will allow the document to be opened in most cases. If you have installed the latest service pack and still cannot open the file, this document has been encrypted using an encryption type not installed on this computer. To open this document, a matching cryptographic service provider must be installed on your computer, even if you typed the correct password. If installing the latest service pack does not resolve the problem, try one of the following: Contact the author of the document, determine the encryption type used to encrypt the document, and then install the matching provider on this computer. Contact the author of the document, and then request that the encryption type be changed to one available on this computer. Request a copy of the document that has not been encrypted. This is not a recommended alternative. Considering I DO have SP3, this makes no sense. It says the encryption type is not available. More encryption types are available using the High Encryption Pack (C:\...\Content.MSO\AE2CFA84.docx) Any ideas on how to fix this, either getting the High Encryption Pack or, more mysteriously, why it somehow thinks I don't have SP3 when I do have SP3? Also, in Control Panel, the Change/Remove button for SP3 is not clickable. This isn't the end of the world, because I suppose I could re-encrypt the file, but I'd rather fix the actual issue since this is not my only encrypted file. What's mysterious is this Word document dates back to 2012, and it was created using Office 2007. Probably with SP3, but I have SP3, so... Yup, I think it was... On another note of weirdness: I just installed the RDP client for W2K. It wouldn't install because it thought it was already installed, so I changed the variable back to 2000 SP4 and then it worked. Just to see, I opened up Word, then Excel - they work just fine now, even though it doesn't think it's XP anymore. I guess that's how yours is set up, so it's not as strange as it might be otherwise.
  10. Gotcha, but New Moon retains the same basic pre-Australis interface of Pale Moon I'm assuming? I'm going to give them all a go momentarily, starting with New Moon and going to Serpent if needed (is one more capable than the other?), but I want to figure the Office stuff out first in case I need to restore back or do something weird. I think you're right, but on some XP site I came across Iceweasel. I was trying to find some sources on these various browsers and they were pretty much all MSFN or roytam1's website. OK, I won't, then. I just used NN..45T or whatever to patch my user environment variable. It actually shows up in quite a few replaces. When I open cmd, it now says Windows NT 5.1, although it still says Windows 2000. Ditto for winver. Not a big deal, obviously. If it means programs work more smoothly, then so be it. I opened up Word, and I didn't get the "This program requires a newer version of Windows" dialog, so this is a step forward. Instead, I got the far messier "The dynamic link library MSVCR90.dll" could not be found in the specified path: C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE12\OFFICE~1; C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT\system;C:\WINNT;C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32Wbem Not sure why the first path is a DOS format path like in command.com, but that's the message. Window says "DDE Server Window: SETUP.EXE - Unable To Locate DLL". Not sure what this is all about? Is it fixable/have you ever encountered it? After clicking "OK" about 15 times, I finally get the Enter your product key window. I suspect THIS is what those multiple dialogs were about, as I haven't seen this until now. I'm still unable to type in my product key - I have one for this that I've used on XP, but it literally won't let me type in the product key! I can't click in the window - it's as if it were all an image instead of a form field. How did you activate your version of Office 2007? It says I can only use it 9 more times, probably because I've already fired it up 31. I have the key, I just need to put it in. I'm not sure if this is something I could manually use REGEDIT for... I'd be surprised if product keys were just stored as plain text in the registry, but I might be wrong.
  11. OK, maybe I'll give it a go if I can't get Office working any other way. Any idea where to download either of these? Chrome 49 is impossible to find, not surprisingly. Firefox claims they offer ESR downloads, but I only see version 68. Actually, found it here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/en-US/ Does Serpent 52 only have the new Australis interface? Or because it's a custom build, is there an option to change this? https://www.xpforums.com/threads/serpent-web-browser.933889/ Does Serpent 52 roughly correspond with FF 52.9 ESR or is it above FF 52.9 in terms of updates/functionality? What would be the advantage of using New Moon over Pale Moon? The only shortcomings of PM 26.5 seemed to be that one specific site didn't work right and YouTube could not play videos. Does either Serpent 52 or New Moon 28 work with video playback on W2K? Also, do any of these have installers? How would one install this for all users, rather than just the current user? Finally, all of roytam1's browsers say for XP, not 2000. I'm skeptical of which ones will work, even with BWC KernelEx. Will New Moon 28+ and IceWeasel all work? I downloaded the latest browsers from the palemoon and basilisk folders here: http://o.rths.ml/ Very weird. I'm getting there, but your W2K is just way better than mine, I guess! Once I figure it all out, I'm going to document all the steps. It's way too length and complicated to remember for the future. Also, curiously, what *is* the difference between the 2000 and XP cmd.exe's? They seem the same to me. Also, I thought .NET 2 is the latest for W2K?
  12. OK, well thanks, you spared me the trouble. Sounds like it's not fully functional, so I'll stick with 2007 then. Didn't notice that until now! I knew it was 1999 but when I opened up cmd.exe that didn't even catch my eye until you pointed it out. Interesting. I thought KernelEx just replaced DLLs and stuff, not actually parts of the OS. But I guess it replaces things such that only an astute onlooker would notice it was changed. Very nice! When you say not using Office, you mean temporarily or permanently? I'll keep what BWC changed as is, because I don't inherently hate the XP components, just the whole XP package itself. I've heard of that, but I'm not interested in these as they sound rather sketchy. Also look weird. Thanks, I'll check that out. I still want to install the latest possible official Chrome (or at least Chromium) and Firefox, however outdated they are. Just my personal preference. I've been using Pale Moon 26.5 on W2K up until now, but 26.5 is the newest supported on XP too so I'm not going to be upgrading that. The one I had was one hacked specifically for 2K though. I'll give Serpent 52 a look (53 and newer don't work?) and maybe use that and Pale Moon. I like the older Firefox interface though compared to what Serpent 52 and newer Firefoxes seem to use. It just doesn't look right on W2K... that's why the Pale Moon browser is nice, because it looks so much more dated. So do you know about the official Chrome/Firefox builds? Also, I have restarted my system numerous times now and the error dialogs still appear 2x every time. I just opened FCWIN2K and now it looks a lot smaller, suddenly the text and window are both tiny. I tried re-doing it again just now but it's still the same. You don't get the error dialogs on your W2K, correct? And all you had to use was FCWIN2K? Weird.
  13. OK, I will do that then. Nah, I won't bother. This is in a VM right now, so if I wanted to test Office 2010, I would go back to a snapshot and fork that and try that. Have you tried/had any success with 2010? The only reason I would go with that is it's probably a bit more refined and Outlook 2010 in particular has some nicer edges, particularly with Conversation View and folder layout. I haven't used Outlook 2007 in about 6 year though, and back then it wasn't connected to an email account, so I still have to see how well email works. Certainly much better than Outlook 2003, if it works. I'm not sure I want to do that, I like the system thinking it's W2K, since it is. For instance, when you open cmd.exe and it says "Windows 2000 Professional". I wouldn't want to see XP there. What other OS components might I want to install? Aren't they all already included out of the box? Also, now that I have KernelEx, what is the newest version of Chrome/Firefox available? I found 12 on vanilla W2K for Firefox, 26.5 for Pale Moon, and Chrome not possible at all. Chrome 49 is the newest for XP but the video I watched had him only at Chrome 31. Could you clarify this? Also, specifically with regards to Chrome: how to install? It seems they have an online installer and no way to actually download a particular Chrome, so it seems it would be difficult to actually install Chrome. IE 6 is "usable" but CSS and HTTPS basically don't work.
  14. Well I've patched Word and regardless of whether I do RUN COMPAT or open from the Start Menu it's the same thing. It seems when I open any office component (I also tried Picture Manager) I get the dialog, hit OK, get it again, hit OK again, it lags for a bit, and then after a minute it's gone and I can use the application normally... until I close it and start it up again. If Word is already open and I open it again, I don't experience any issues. But I can't keep it running all the time like that. Do I need to use the AppCompat bat file or just FCWIN2K? Also related, winword seems to keep disappearing from FCWIN2K after a little bit, and I keep re-adding it. However, even when it's currently in the table, Word doesn't work right. Also, is it OK to install SP3 for O2K7? This guy did it: though I'm not sure how it turned out for him. Also, oddly enough, I can neither Change nor Remove O2K7 from Control Panel. Seems like an oversight on Microsoft's behalf... they never thought people would install things they weren't "supposed" to?
  15. Yup, that's what I did and it didn't work Weird. It's there, and now it works. Not complaining, but it wasn't rendering the first few times. Maybe I had to go to the folder and double click the font file. However, Cambria also works now, and it didn't before. I guess navigating to the Fonts directory fixed the issue. Word *seems* usable. I haven't tried Outlook yet, guessing it's going to be a nightmare trying to get it to work, if it can at all. However, FCWIN2K doesn't seem to prevent the incompatible error. I don't notice any other issues, other than the error dialog. If only I could stop its "immune response"! I only tried WINWORD.exe, are there are other exe files that need to be patched? Obviously each program, but I'm just trying Word right now And thanks so much for your help so far! I would never have been able to get this far w/o your help. Sorry I keep asking for more help, but I've been tingling ever since learning this might be possible, and would love so much for it to work out, because then I could actually use W2K forever and not have to use XP.
  16. What do you mean by this exactly? Is this something I do post-install? I opened Windows Update and somehow was able to get rid of that dialog (clicking OK didn't do anything) and I was able to type some. It says Calibri up top but it types in Times New Roman. Do the new fonts not come with Office 2007, meaning I need to install them myself? Compared to getting Office to work, that should be a cinch, but wondering if that's a glitch or something else. Also, when I use FCWIN2K to patch the winword.exe file in the Office12 directory and do the same steps, it opens up again and I see the same dialog. FCWIN2K seems to have no effect.
  17. @win32 Tried this just now and I get: "The dynamic link library MSVCR90.dll could not be found in the specified path "...path to Office install folder...", as well as a few other system folders If I click OK a bunch of times (there's more error dialogs), setup.exe actually opens! Strangely, it won't let me type in a product key. I can't click in the box. I *can* click next Continue though and continue with installation, let's see how far I get... EDIT: Installed successfully (w/o Groove), but when I open Word, I get "The specified program requires a newer version of Windows"... back where I started again! Do you know how to resolve this? I followed all the steps exactly. Thanks!
  18. Just so you know, my COMCTRL is the 2000 version, not the XP version. The dialog popped up on the first try this time. Maybe because I copied the exe to the desktop instead of running from a mapped drive. Forgot to check what WMP was originally there. Slight complication. Reboot was successful and I can login, but when I do, there is no explorer.exe! Instead there is an error dialog that says Cannot find the file '%systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ngen.exe' (or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct adn that all required libraries are available. Thoroughly baffled. Not only did I not install .NET, but only up to v2.0 is supported for W2K. When I click OK, explorer.exe starts and the desktop appears. EDIT: I *do* have WMP 9 so things worked this time! I think... let's try Office now
  19. I'm doing it on W2K now. Easier as it won't mess with the host OS and there's no UAC so I don't need to enter a password 6 million times (since on NT6+ I don't run as admin, though I'll probably run as Standard (or Restricted) user in W2K, too, once I get everything installed.) It took 38 minutes last time so hopefully this will be done in around half an hour or so. Just to make sure I've got this straight: When it's done, I'm going to do a brand new install with the ISO. I'll install KernelEx, and the only change away from the default is to check the XP WSOCK box, I believe. It's not possible to slipstream the KernelEx part, I guess?
  20. I see. It would be nice if they could put one up on WinWorld though, so people don't have to spend hours trying and failing to do this. The thing is it totally looks like it's going to actually try to install some W2K component on this NT6+ machine! How can I be sure it won't do that? I'm not using a VM, so I don't to accidentally cause irreversible damage to Windows as I'm not in the mood to restore anything here right now. It looks like this runs in W2K though. Maybe I'll try doing it in a 2K VM, so I don't risk screwing anything up.
  21. @win32 Also, to answer your earlier question, no, I had WMP5 or 6 not 9 when I first logged in. I can manually upgrade that, though. I went all the way back and for some reason it *still* does not work right, I get the 10-minute logon thing again. Oddly, it only happens once BWC KernelEx is installed. Not before that. And it didn't happen last time I installed KernelEx either, only on this fresh install. As it stands, once KernelEx is installed, I can no longer log into the computer. Not terribly useful, to say the least... Is there any chance I can download the slipstreamed ISO from somewhere and use a "known good/working" ISO to install? Clearly, something is getting screwed up somewhere early on and I can't figure out how it's happening.
  22. @win32 The option I see is "Disable Vista MUI" So I should *uncheck* that, correct?
  23. I was able to successfully install with the ISO it gave me, so it looks like it worked after all (or maybe not, but wasn't broken enough to not work?) I'm installing KernelEx now (the second time). I'm using the default settings that come up in that big window with all the checkboxes - I don't need to change anything here, right? For instance, you mentioned something with winsock, and the XP winsock box was unchecked... should that have been unchecked? That window didn't come up the first time I installed, only the second time, so indeed you need to install twice! When it restarted, it took forever/is taking forever. It's been saying "Windows is starting up" now for the past 3 or 4 minutes. I restarted it a few times for other things though before KernelEx, so either it takes a while after patching it or something is funny. EDIT: After 5 minutes, it reached "Preparing network connections" so I guess it's just slow right now EDIT about EDIT: "Preparing network connections" is taking another 5 minutes now, too... EDIT 3: OK, now "RPCSS is starting" so I think we're almost there. It's been about 10 minutes so far.
  24. @win32 No, you've been a big help, thank you so much! I must admit I'm not familiar with this. I'm testing in a VM until I'm sure I have the process down, but I'll most likely be installing W2K onto an OptiPlex 755 SFF that has a floppy drive. I just extracted it. There's no readme. I read through the batch file a bit but it's rather long and doesn't entirely explain itself. Neither does the LICENSE text file. It seems I run it on any modern Windows PC and set up the file. There's not a readme, so I hope it doesn't screw my system up if I just try to get it to work. I'm assuming that's what I'm supposed to do: just run the script? Good to know. It seems like this integrates codecs and XP files into 2000, so hopefully I'll have better luck with this route. ALSO: While running the script, I got a bunch of UAC prompts. Seems like it's trying to install/run the actual files on my system? One was WMP9, for instance. I just clicked Deny for all of those. And what is this supposed to mean exactly? All hotfixes integrated into a folder called SOURCESS. Remember to reboot your machine after installing from the SOURCESS folder.
  25. nLite? Isn't that for XP for removing parts of the OS before install? https://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html What am I removing from Windows 2000? Or am I just using this to inject HFSLIP into the OS before installing it? My understanding then is: Use nLite to slipstream HFSLIP into W2K Install W2K and then install USP 5.1 Install the latest KernelEx Install Office 2007 using FCWIN2K OK, thanks for the clarification. I guess I wasn't missing out, and W2K is so slim on resources that >4GB of RAM is not really necessary as it may be with XP or newer versions of Windows.
