  1. How do you setup Windows 10 without extensive back doors and telemetry? The default is a Microsoft account and storing your private data including web searching history in the Microsoft Cloud. With Microsoft pulling the plug on 7 what's to stop Microsoft from pulling the plug on 10? Why does Microsoft control your use of the software you've bought a license to? It's more like a lease if WIndows 10 has to phone home to make sure you are still permitted to use your computer.
  2. Is there any possibility of releasing an end of life unofficial service pack for Windows 7? On the todo list, disable all telemetry that goes to Microsoft, close back doors, permanently disable Windows update, permanently block Cortana and everything else Microsoft is pushing now in 10. Maybe some security holes can be plugged as well. ReactOS is developing, but it could be years before it becomes a drop in replacement for Microsoft Windows. I like 7 because there is no need to log on to Microsoft's Cloud to use your computer and as far as I know it doesn't upload all your private files and browsing history to Microsoft.
  3. I have to install Windows 98 SE via setup /p i and it's a pain considering I have to turn ACPI off in the bios. Would be nice if there was a kernel patch for 98se that would fix ACPI. Then I could go back and forth between XP and 98se without futzing with ACPI in the bios.
  4. Don't go over, I think the limit is 512megs of ram, for Windows 98SE. Virtualbox emulates a lower spec video card I believe, but I wouldn't be surprised if you run into problems with Oracle dropping Windows 98se support from Virtualbox. Windows98se expects a max of I believe 512megs of video ram. If there are still virtualbox extensions for Windows 98se, you will want to install them. Another tip, Windows 98se typically doesn't play well with ACPI. Install with setup /p i I believe to disable ACPI detection. Also, the bios should not support ACPI (Think virtualbox bios). Some NVIDIA cards have known bugs and known workarounds for them. I believe that 98se can be patched by an unofficial patch to allow it to handle 2 gigs of ram.
  5. I have to support a Windows 9x program that is called QSoft. It reaches, the program itself, for hardware. That's why it doesn't work in an XP environment. If I add kernelex, will I introduce a hardware abstraction layer to 98se?
  6. I'm running Windows ME on an EVOC 1714VNA and would like to support USB2. Doesn't ME support it out of the box? Tried USB20DRV.EXE experimental and apparently there is a failure to copy some important files... Is there a polished release of this for WIndows ME?
  7. QSoft-2 is graphical software that depends on Windows 9x, 98SE or ME, to control a pick and place machine for assembling circuit boards. I'm thinking if wine can work in freedos that fltk could provide a graphical environment... would be nice to get this software out of Windows 9x as it is getting very difficult to run it on modern hardware.
  8. Freedos can support FLTK. Any chance that one can run wine in a FLTK freedos graphical environment? How else could you run QSoft-2 in a freedos environment gui side?
