  1. Only reason I disable irq steering is because it is the only way to get the other pci devices to work. Otherwise they install but do not work and have an exclamation point saying "The device is not working properly because IRQ Holder for pci steering is not working properly (Code 31.)" I click properties as it says than it says for the IRQ Holder for PCI steering "that the device is disabled because the bios didn't give it an irq request (code 29.)"And that I must enable it in bios. I set my ide controller to no channels enabled. And yes fresh install no drivers for anything and disabled all I could and IRQ 09 seems to go to the IRQ Holder for pci steering. Thanks for helping
  2. I formatted the disk and did a fresh install with the /p i flag. I did not point the installer to any driver directory nor install any drivers. I ended up with the same exclamations in device manager as previous installs. The first three images are directly after the install. The second three are after I disable IRQ steering. The last 2 are the devices found with errors.
  3. Yes I did copy newer VIAmach.inf with the 6.0.00.0300. version. The above pictures are from after copying
  4. I tried that method with both the original VIA and than BIostar drivers and still no luck. Tried again with fresh install and again no luck. I have previously tried that updated chipset driver and it does adds more specific drivers but not audio IRQ apparently. Attached is my IRQ's and PCI bus. The IRQ steering is set like that because if any of the check boxes in any combination are enabled the graphics, Ethernet, and USB will not work. If i uncheck the Use PCI steering than the audio tells me to enable it. However, the audio does not work whether it is turned on or off nor which boxes are checked
  5. Sorry, for such the break in replying. The driver version of the Viamach.inf is 08/16/2001 5.1.00.0230 . This is the official chip set driver from what is left of the everex site
  6. I tried a fresh install with the alc850_6240 driver by directing windows to the WDM with no results than tried installing the driver via the setup exe and still no luck. Device manger still gives the same error
  7. Thanks, and that's a good idea I've been doing a lot of inefficent reinstall when I begin to get frustrated with all the drivers.
  8. I tried at @Goodmaneuver's suggestion with the a399 version and still no luck. I later tried the A4.06 and still no luck. Both sets of drivers install but end up with the same error of being disabled in bios
  9. Sorry, wow just relized it's my first me ever installing a Chipset driver. And I installed it but still no luck with the audio. Same error.
  10. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\enum\PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_43431509&REV_60\BUS_00&DEV_11&FUNC_05
  11. To be honest I could not tell you Iv installed and tried so many things over so many installations. Im assuming I should install the chip set drivers before anything else, correct?
  12. Thank you but unfortunately that did not work either. Ended up with the exact same error. Maybe I will try a fresh install without ACPI
  13. I have an old Everex Stepnote LM7WZ laptop with an Unichrome S3 VN800 graphics card with a VT8273R plus south bridge. As you may know Everex is out of business so contacting their support is not possible and this Laptop only officially supports Windows XP. I am looking to use this laptop to run 98SE/Me for some old games and just playing around. I know this isnt ideal for gaming as I dont want to spend the money to get a graphics card for my real 98 PC. I managed to get ME installed onto the laptop and by using the XP drivers and googling I managed to get the graphics, USB, and Ethernet working. The Sound, modem, and WIFI do not work in which i don't need the modem or WIFI. However I can not get the Via AC'97 sound to work! I tried both the Windows XP drivers and ones designed for Windows 98/ME and still no luck. I keep ending up with an error about the device being disabled in bios. However, the bios is extremely limited and their is no option for any thing related to sound, modem, COM ports. However, the sound works fine under Linux, Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 as I tried them all. I am thinking there might be an issue with the IRQ steering as the error mentions it and I had to make it only enabled for ACPI in order for the Display, Ethernet, and USB to work. However, i have tried leaving it back to the defaults and all different combinations but still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I know Im better off giving up or buying a USB soundcard but it seems a shame that something as simple as sound will cause problems.
  14. Thanks. Yea that is a possibility but I already have an old HP Scanjet from a dumpster dive. I think you might be able to also use a picture file in the faxes not 100% sure.
  15. Have an old HP scanner that is USB and SCSI. The Pc also has a SCSI controller I added. i just dont have the cable to connect the two. Only USB but i am conaidering a cable. Isnt there also an option to take pictures and use them instead of a scan document(i know its a thing in the win xp and 8.1 versions). We have a b/w laser print on our network I would set up. Im just to lazy to configure it in 98
  16. Our new insurance company requires alot of documents to be faxed between us, doctors, and them. I know it sounds ridiculous(and I agree) but it is what it is. We do not own a fax machine nor really want to purchase one. However we do own 4 old computers that have modems but 3 out of 4 use a ISA interface and the 4th(Only one that doesn't work) uses a pci modem. Our current PC does not have any ISa or PCI slots just PCI express. Eventually I plan on building a computer that will have a PCI slot but thats a different story. Would it be a doable Idea to use the best computer out of the 3(Pentium II 333mhz, 112b ram) as a fax machine using windows Fax and Scan? Would this actually work and be feasible(besides being slow as molasses)? It currently runs Windows 98 and Windows 2000.
  17. I was wondering if a motherboard with an embded processor would work good with Windows 98 or 9.x in general. I am refering to boards with a processor such as the celeron j800/900, n3050/n3150, amd a4-500, 16-5200 ,e-350, etc. These boards are cheap, low power, and minimal, making them seem pretty good for windows 9.x. I know they are probably too modern but it seems like a good idea. Just a thought here.
  18. The videos work pretty well. The resolution is 1024 x 768 I belive.
  19. I installed direct x 8 and tried all the vlc you suggested but I settled on usinf windows media player and media player classic with a codec pack.
  20. Well I installed klite coded pack 2.88 with kernel ex and the videos play great. I use windows media player and media player classic with no hiccups right off a flash drive. The only issue I found was when I tried playing a blueray rip is when the pc stuttered. that's no problem though I don't have any blueray disks nor a blueray drive nor plan to use the pc for this.
  21. Yea I was using a newer vlc. I will try older. I have a copy of 1. Something ill try than try 0.8.6 if no sucess. I will also try Direct X 8
  22. This is windows 98 se. I will try the video on the harddrive. I will also try a codec pack. Yea usb 1 is very slow
  23. I don't know what the resolution was set at. The graphics card had 4mb ram that's pretty much all I know. I will try to move a video to the harddrive to test it out. It is an oem xps d333. I have a few parts from other oems but no ram or cpu(this pc is the newest and most powerful of them)
  24. I was trying to run Vlc with some videos on a Pentium II 333mhz with 96 mb ram. I was running both VLC and the video off a flash drive in the usb 1.0 port. The playback was very poor the video was extrmely choppy and the audio was garbled. I tried both an avi and mp4 file with the avi giving the bad video and the mp4 not even playing. Is their any way I can maybe fix this issue and watch some videos? Would maybe having VLC onnthe hard drive be better? Maybe another video player? (The hdd is only 8gb and 6.5. are full so im limited on space)There is no reason behind doing this it is just for fun.
