Ok thanks Allanol ill try that. On the side note, is there anyway I can just test my WPI in a virtual machine w/o having to use the uA. I dont want to install windows everytime to test its taking hours in the VM.
-
... the ISO is made from C:\XPCD, where the Software folder would be C:\XPCD\Software So then it would be %cdrom%\Software for the ISO...
-
Anyone? This has put a huge halt in progress, so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this let me know.
-
C:\XPCD\Software\ thats the path then in VM i start the virtual machine and go into the menu and say CD -> Use Physical Drive G: (this is referring to my Main machine not the VM) the VM launches, installs, then goes to wpi where nothing works. Once windows loads I see the D: drive and it shows nothing in it... So I am not sure whats going on? Also does anyone know if I can test JUST my WPI? Everytime I do the uA cd it takes 50 mins to even get to WPI, and testing my apps is a pain when it takes 50 mins to get to them. Thanks!

I posted this in the WPI thread, but no one seems to be able to understand my problem, and it doesnt totally have to do with WPI. So I made my CD ISO, mounted it on my PC in drive G:, I then turned on my VM, went to CD and "use physical drive G:". This boots the ISO and installs XP, then my WPI came up on first boot. Now I selected all my apps to see which ones would fail, and which would succeed. Well All failed pretty much. None of them could find the files, all said Windows cannot find "D:\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\..." Well of course not, my apps are all on my ISO in the G: drive..., but my VM doesnt have a G: only a D: which is a DVD drive. my WPI looks like this: %cdrom%\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\acroread7sl.exe so I understand why its screwing up, just dont know how to fix this. Thanks!

which command file like that?? and do you understand that im still having problems with D:? The ISO is on G: on my virtual drive i dont have g: i have d: but nothing is in D:. Do you understand?
-
Kel, thanks for the help but your talking to someone who has no clue how to do what your saying. IN your one post your talking about WPI being on the HD. Its not. WPI is on the UA CD, and all my apps are on the uA cd as well. As of right now, im testing my installs via the entire uA cd - booting via the ISO - installs windows silently - launches WPI now this takes about 50 mins to get to the WPI part, I wanted to know if i could just test my WPI (the installations w/o having to reinstall windows on the VM everytime). You said I couldnt so anyways Im having the problem above where the uA cd and WPI are looking in D: for %cdrom% when I use a virtual drive g:. How do I fix this? thanks!

lol so only way is to keep reinstalling in the VM ah well, guess ill just leave it running and go for a run or play some games hah. Ok im having a problem now tho. Thanks!

Youll have to forgive me im real new at this. If you could explain how you test the cd and apps differently that would help!
-
Ok so is there anyway I can test my WPI installs w/o having to install the entire cd on a new virtual machine every time? I just wana check the apps one by one to makesure everything is ok. Also I hear (from asta) that you can run WPI from runonce and you select your installs from the beggining instead of first logon. Can someone show me their runonce script then and how I would use it to do this. Just wana get this cd over with for now. thanks!

im testing my uA cd. Ive seen it format the partition, install and then go thru the steps. Ive gone as far as the program asking me for the key (was a typo in mine) but up to this pnt WPI had not launched. When should I expect it? Thanks!

Ok thanks, thats 1 problem done. Im sure there will be more so ill keep the community updated

Ok so with my uA cd I just copy the contents of these rar files into the Themes dir right? Im using the hacked uxTheme Ok so now I need some themes, ive read the websites: http://www.themexp.org/ - hear these have spyware so pass http://www.wincustomize.com/ - what do I download here the DesktopX themes? Suites? Windows Blinds? can someone recommend some good skins and maybe throw them on yousendit or a fileshare so I can grab em? I just wana grab about 10awesome skins (please only ones that dont interfere with other apps color schemes) Ive found a few with WindowsBlinds but i want to use the uXtheme when I install my uA cd. thanks!

Im usings the ms switch to install TB 1.0.2. This is fine, and I dont use any themese/extensions for TB as i dont see a need for any. But what I do need are my settings. I know these are in the appdata and some people say not to copy them this way as the def user name has to be the same for ur UA or something. C:\Documents and Settings\ME\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default.kdh\ thats the folder, I dont see how I cant rar this up into a sfx, and have it copy the contents back into the folder on my new uA cd. the username might not be the same, but there would have to be a way to just say C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default.kdh\ right?? or is there another way? looks like I might just need to run this manually after install.

1. Im new to WPI and saw examples doing this: msiexec.exe /qb /i %cdrom%\Install\Winamp\Winamp505.msi INI="%cdrom%\Install\Winamp\setup.ini" could I not do this? %systemdrive%\install\Winamp\Winamp5.0.8.msi INI="%systemdrive%\install\winamp\winamp.ini" /qn whats the msiexec.exe /i about? 2. Is this how I would add a key into the registry? REGEDIT /S %systemdrive%\Install\WinRAR\rarreg.key 3. How do I make sure my cd runs my cleanup after the cd is done? Do i put this in my WPI???? Thats all I have for now. Thanks!

WMP10 Slipstreamer Version 1.1
Ctwizzy replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
sorry to say these arnt in the instructions, these are in the prev post. And dont downplay my intelligence again or ill take it personally. The instructions say nothing about when to execute the cmd file so dont get all smartass here. oh and thanks for clearing it up for me. -
Also, what kind of DB/lang are you doin the DB connections etc in. I do a little development and might be able to lend a hand if im familiar with what your doing.
-
Didnt realize you were working on a DB, I apologize. but sometimes being a little too vague is a problem. In a dif post I was completly confused over what to do and when to do it, as the author never specified when to run the command file. Im not about to guess and potentially screw up my UACD or my system, id rather know when, than anything else. And tbh ive never seen the search topic lol, thanks that should help me out a bit.

Joffer dont feel bad, I tried looking for a way to do this, only way I found was the slipstream method. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...t=130&p=295014& Some of the more advanced members sometimes dont understand that doing a search that sometimes spawns not only 1 topic but multiple ones is hard to navigate through. And then when you do find a post its 14+ pages long and u dont have the time to read them all, when all you really want is a nice easy simple "These are the steps". There needs to be an easily searchable database for applications, without the 14 pages of reading to find out the proper steps.

WMP10 Slipstreamer Version 1.1
Ctwizzy replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Ok as far as im Concerned this is how it works correct me if im wrong. I have my XPCD sp2 on my C: drive in C:\XPCD I placed WMP10 installer and the WMP10_Slipstreamer_V11.cmd in a folder called WMP10 on my c:\wmp10 Next step says Ok no offense to the author as its much appreciated that this was done but these instructions are the most ambiguous instructions ever. Step1 get wood, cement and bricks. Step2 get picture of a house, copy and voila! where are steps 1.1-1.99999 Ok so im going to list the steps again 1. Put the WMP10 installer and the cmd file in the same folder. 2. Copy i386 folder on my C: (cant find this folder am I supposed to run the cmd file first and then this folder is created?) 3. Edit the HIVEDEF.INF file As you can see it never mentions when to run the cmd file, and I dont read minds or between the lines that well, especially not with things I am unfamilliar with. So am I to run the cmd file then copy the newly made i386 folder into my XPCD and then alter the file?? Thanks for your patience. -

So why the entire i386 folder? wouldnt is just be a certain file? And what if I dont have WMP10 installed on my pc wouldnt both be v9 then? This seems a little weird. -
mount the WPI directory or the XPCD dir?
