I have got win2003 server Enterprise Edition SP1, when I started the laptop, I have to wait till the winOS is loaded completely, and I have to wait the below message : http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5673/servicecontrolmanagerhh2.jpg Some times (more than once) the above message did not pop up, and I have to restart the PC again, and some times I have to wait 15 minutes for the message to come up and some times it does not. Now if the message does not come up , I can do nothing with the PC (i.e. I can not open file, browse Internet Explorer or any other program) What Should I do to overcome this issue. Thanks
  13. I have got 2 PCs (laptop win2003 SP1) and Desktop (windows XP professional SP2). There is no firewall on both PC,,,they are connecting to each other through ADSL Linksys WAG54g V2, they can ping each other, and they can ping the ADSL router, and they can access the internet without any problem. Desktop is connected wired to the router, laptop is connected wirelessly to the router,,,,they are under same workgroup name as well. Recently (suddenly) I tried to access the folders on winXP from win2003 (which is I used to do before without any problem), I recieved this error message:
  14. I tried at work to redo the same scenario again with two PCs , my laptop (2003) and IBM Desktop (2003, not XP) (no domain, they are stand alone PCs,,,they are on the same LAN with public ip addresses). from the Laptop I tried to access the Desktop , I received this erro message: no network provider accepted the given network path
  15. I have got two PCs win2003 and XP,,,,,PCA and PCB (both PCs on my LAN). I created a folder on PCA (win2003), called "My Stuff",,,I created many users on PCA (employees, jsmith, test1, test2), I enabled sharing for the folder "My Stuff", and I gave permission (read only) to the username "employees" only, I deleted the username "Everyone" which is by default there. 1- From PCB (XP) , I opened run, then I typed in : \\192.168.1.64-----for win2003 2- Screen poped up (first time), I typed in the username:jsmith (not employees), the password:newsletter. 3- I was able to see "My Stuff", since it is shared folder, but I could not access, since jsmith has not been given permission to access it (only username "employees" has been given permission to access it ). 4- After that (second time, third time,,,etc), when I try to type in: \\192.168.1.64, I will be forwarded to a window with "My Stuff" folder (PCB still remember the previous session for username "jsmith"), I was not able to type in the username: employess, password: forum (because I have not greeted with a pop up screen!!!!),,,,,,,,,,What should I configure to let the (PCB) provides me with the pop screen for the new username (employees) ? 5- When I tried to type in : \\192.168.1.64\My Stuff (when I typed in only \\192.168.1.64 no erro message),,,,,,I received this error message : \196.230.165.135\My Stuff is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resources. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.
  16. I get confuse between these terminologies: I want to correct my understanding 1- If you look to the link below, I have got "Computer Name" (second windows) , and NetBOIS "computer name" (third winodws bottom)....it is obvious they are same, because if I changed the name in the second screen it will effect the third screen. Am I right ? http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2996/ne...isusername6.jpg 2- This link below also saying: that computername is an alias for NetBOIS name http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/...s/WINS_Home.htm 3- The output of the "hostname" command when i used it from cmd is : NetBOIS name (computer name). Example: Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790] © Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.NICEDELL>hostname LatitudeD600 4- "hostname" command is different form the host file (%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\host),,,,Am I right ? 5- http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/...s/WINS_Home.htm "The key technical difference is that WINS servers use NetBIOS names whereas DNS relies on hostname. For years I thought that NetBIOS and hostname were one and the same". A- What does he mean by hostname here ? Isn't different form the "hostname" command that i have mentioned in point 4 ? B- If it is different, we do not have hostname file within windows OS, we have got host file only (without the suffix name) which is : %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\host,,,,or does hostname file will be created when we have DNS enabled ? 6- We have got "NetBOIS Name" and "NetBOIS USer", what is the difference, see the link below http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/919/net...isuserdiffe.jpg
  17. When I tried to run this command "pgedit.msc' on windows 2003, I received these messages http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/1903/gpedit8qf.jpg What should I do to fix this problem?
  18. I have got windows 2003 server , recently I am experiencing this problem when I connect to internet with both Wired card and Wireless card at work and at home and any other places. 20. I have got PC with win2003 server and another with windows XP Professional , I can access windows XP form windows 2003 through “My Network Places”,,,I have to enter the username and password for windows XP (for XP’s administrator) to be able to access the shared folder. Now If I shut down windows 2003 and I open it aging, I still be able to access windows XP without typing in username and password. Some time (not all the times) after two days I still able to access XP without entering username and password,,,Why does this happen ?
  21. I have got win2003 server installed on my PC,,,I installed active directory (to practice with it) by using "dcpromo" command ,,,,I installed while I was logging as user: Administrator , password: forum Later I tried to uninstall Active Directory by using same command "dcpromo",,,during uninstallation it asked about password,,,,when I entered to use "forum", it complained about complexity for the password,,,,then I entered different password: Forum06,,,,it accepted that one as new password. When I rebooted the PC, I could not access my old username account which was Administrator….the new username account that has bee created , called also Administrator. Does the new username account that has been created overwrite the old username account (Though still I can see the two different folders name Administrator (for old account) and Administrator.Dell (for new account) ).? How can I access my old username account (Administrator) ? Because it will hassle to copy every (profile) thing from old account (Administrator ) to new account (Administrator.Dell)?
  22. I have got 3 PCs are accessing the internet through the LinkSys ADSL Router WAG54G, These PCs are in different places, two of them (Laptops,,,La and Lb) accessing the router wireless and the third one (Desktop,,,D1) wired. These PCs are in different places in an office. What should I do if I want to control the download of these PCs,,,(i.e. they can't download at any time the like to download ) Suppose I am using La and I want to stop D1 form downloading because he slows down the net,,, What should I do ? Note: I just want to disable the ability of a download,,,,I have got no problem if he want to browse.
