Unintentional Classic Theme After Silent Install
Cartoonite replied to Cartoonite's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
rofl. That's good humour. send to Funny Farm? Always nice to be appreciated. You seem to know a lot about batch file scripting, prathapml. Could you please take a look at my (reply-less ) thread here and give me some feedback as to whether or not things will work as I intend? -
XP install not running unattended
Cartoonite replied to GeneralMandible's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
[UserData] ProductID=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx I believe the correct syntax for this line is: [UserData] ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx This is what I have in my WINNT.SIF and it works perfectly. I suppose it could be different because I use SP2 slipstreamed, but that seems unlikely. -
hotfixes now with integrate features :)
Cartoonite replied to mimo78's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Nice! I had no idea this was possible. This will make integrating the new updates much simpler. Thank ya's muchly! -
Install freezing after textmode setup.

It sounds to me like the SP2 redistribution pack you downloaded may be corrupted. Have you tried re-downloading it? -
Unintentional Classic Theme After Silent Install
Cartoonite replied to Cartoonite's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I myself have read many forum threads and thought, "Okay, so is this solved or not?" and yet here I am comitting the same crime. I did indeed resolve the issue by adding the entry in WINNT.SIF [Shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile="%Windir%\Resources\Themes\Luna.theme" This does seem a bit like patching a hole in the wall by putting a poster up over it though. (Not that I've ever done that... ) Seems silly that I should have to specify in my answer file that I want my custom default them to be, well, the default theme. Regardless, the issue has been effectively resolved. I will do some more testing later to see if I can't isolate exactly what is (was?) causing the issue in the first place. -

I don't have a job either, and it's not nice. Seriously starting to worry about making rent payments after New Year's. Anyway, my resolutions: I will not sleep through New Year's (again...) I will get (and keep this time, dammit) a job I will attempt to procrastinate less (starting tomorrow...) I will get a driver's license so that I will be allowed to drive before I'm 30 (stoopid graduated licensing...) With my track record, that should keep me busy until at least 2010.

Effects for me include: Excessive intake of caffeine Forgetting to eat Headaches Eyesight degradation The first two are probably more a product of my personality than anything else. I suspect the second two are far more common. Vision muscles are like any other muscles, if we don't use them, they will become atrophied. Spending all day focussing on a computer screen deprives our eye muscles of the exercise they need. My optomestrist recommended I take a break at least once an hour to focus on something far away. This is adivice that I ignore at my own risk, but thought others may still appreciate hearing. I'm still young and invincible, who cares if my eyes are getting worse?

I think the easiest way to do this would be with nested archives. Create one archive each to be extracted to each of your system variable directories. Then create a batch file that will run them all. Zip, rar, 7-Zip or whatever them all up into a single SFX that will extract itself into a temporary directory and run the batch after extraction. Your one main SFX could then be executed from wherever you like, and it will extract itself, extract each of the smaller ones to their specified locations, and then clean itself up when it's done. Maybe this really isn't any easier than using an installer, but, since I know exactly zero about using any of the currently available installer programs, it's easier for me.
-
Cool. Thanks Asta. I'm not familiar with AutoIT yet, guess I will have to look into that too. I'm still pretty new to this whole uA thing.
-
That's what I was thinking MCT, but if both commands could be run straight from the SFX it would save a little bit of work, and maybe even a couple of bytes on the CD.
-
Could you do this in an SFX that you're already installing (extracting and running setup.exe, for example) from or would you have to create a separte SPX just for your regkey? I thought you could only specifiy a single program to run after extraction...

WPI + Removing Outlook Express
Cartoonite replied to Astalavista's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
"Don't" or "won't?" Sorry, but as of now nLite is the only way i know to get rid of some of the things Microsoft just doesn't seem to want to let you uninstall, like OE and WMP. If I find out anything new, I will be sure to post it. -
WPI + Removing Outlook Express
Cartoonite replied to Astalavista's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Is there some reason you don't want to remove it using something like nLite? AFAIK there is no way within Windows to remove OE itself, only its "Visible entry points." -
Not sure if this is the right place for this or not, or if it's something that's already been answered and I just couldn't find it. In either case, just slap my wrist and point me in the right direction and I will wander off, hanging my head in shame. Almost every program I know of for Windows, by default, wants to install itself into the Program Files directory. I can't possibly be the only person who finds this annoying. I prefer to group my programs somewhat according to their function. Multimedia-related programs and codecs in one folder, peer2peer programs in another, and so on... Since it seems not all silent install switches support some kind of path switch, I am looking for another way to accomplish this. I know you can use the SET command in a batch file to change and/or create local variables that will be unset when the batch terminates, but I am unclear as to what exactly constitues the termination of the batch file. If I call a batch file from within another batch file using start /wait, and then use SET to change the ProgramFiles variable, will the variable be reset when the second batch ends and the first continues, or will it be passed through the batch files until all off the batches have ended? I will use Winamp as an example. I currently install Winamp from start.cmd as follows: ECHO. ECHO Installing Winamp 5.0.7 ECHO Please wait... start /wait msiexec /i %systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Winamp\Winamp.msi /qn ini=%systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Winamp\Winamp.ini If I were to change this so that start.cmd called another file, such as: ECHO. ECHO Installing Winamp 5.0.7 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Winamp\Winamp.cmdwith Winamp.cmd being: SET ProgramFiles=%systemdrive%\Multimedia start /wait msiexec /i %systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Winamp\Winamp.msi /qn ini=%systemdrive%\Install\Applications\Winamp\Winamp.ini EXITwhen Winamp.cmd closes, and start.cmd moves on to install the next program, will the ProgramFiles variable be reset to "%systemdrive%\Program Files" or will it keep the value set in Winamp.cmd? Secondly, this is my first attempt at a uA CD, and I am using the [GuiRunOnce] and start.cmd method simply because I am far more familar with standard batch scricpts than I am with the commands required for RunOnceEx. I do, however plan to switch over before creating the final CD. If I do implement this system of temporarily renaming the ProgramFiles variable, is there anything I will need to be careful of when switching over to RunOnceEx? Again, if this has been discussed before, please just point me towards it and I can go on my own from there. I did search, I just didn't find anything.

Sorry saitoh183, but I can tell you from past experience that this just won't work. Case in point, there is a thread very very similar to this one listed just 4 or 5 threads below this one as I was looking at the forum. There are sticky threads for a reason. For any thread of this nature to work, it would have to be stickied. And, I believe, the "Threads of Interest" in this very forum is meant to serve that purpose. It's a good idea, but, unfortunately, I just don't think it will work. *Runs and hides before Alanoll sees him fraternizing in this thread...*

Welcome to the nut hous...err...MSFN

To the best of my knowledge fast user switching only works if you have the Welcome Screen enabled. If you have disabled that, you likely won't be able to get FUS working.

You can add my vote to MadGutts' and Simon's quotes about idiocy. In addition, here are some of my own favorites, in no particular order. (Author unknown unless otherwise specified.) I'm sure there's more too, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
-
First off, if you could either truncate your OemPnPDriversPath line or manually wrap it around a few lines, it would make your post much easier to read. As to your issue, it's a simple enough solution. I had the same problem with my test uA CD originally. You need to add [Unattended] Repartition=Yesto your WINNT.SIF file and delete [Unattended] FileSystem = * I think your confusion, and mine, comes from the AutoPartition line in the [Data] section. This line does not, in fact, tell Setup to repartition the drive, but rather to install XP onto the first available partition with enough free space and no currently installed version of Windows. See ref.chm for details. Repartion=Yes will delete all existing partitions on the first drive in the system and then repartition the entire thing into a single NTFS partition. If you are using an unpartitioned drive (which it sounds like you are), Setup will simply create a new partition of the maximum size.
-
Sorry punker, I've gotten a bit confused as to what exactly it is you want to accomplish. From what I understand, you want Setup to flow something like this: Text mode setup (uA) Reboot GUI mode setup (uA) Administrator account autologon Appinstl.cmd executed (uA application setup) Reboot Login Prompt (No more autologons) Have I got that right?
-
AutoLogon = YesThis line tells Setup that the built-in Administrator account should be automatically logged on once, at first boot. You should remove it if you are going to assign any account other than the built-in Administrator account to be the one that logs on automatically. It may be advisable to remove it even if you are using the Admin account and the registry keys shown below, I'm not sure. Alternately you could import the autologon keys after the Administrator account has logged on at first boot and avoid any conflict that may be caused by giving Windows two seperate autologon instructions. The only downside to this is that all of you programs installed via appinstl.cmd will be installed by the Administrator account rather than your personal account. This is the pair of files I use to assign autologon to my personal account: useraccounts.cmd net user User password /add net localgroup Administrators User /add net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited REGEDIT /S autologon.reg EXIT autologon.reg Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="User" "DefaultPassword"="password" "AutoAdminLogon"="1" Both files are placed directly in the $OEM$ folder. I call useraccount.cmd from cmdlines.txt, and it, in turn, imports the keys in autologon.reg. "User" and "password" are variables that can be set as needed. (I don't, for example, really call my personal account "User." ) If you are looking to have XP's built-in Administrator account be the account that is automatically logged in, you should be able to skip every line in the batch file except the regedit one. Then enter the folowing in autologon.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="Administrator" "DefaultPassword"="<Admin Password from WINNT.SIF>" "AutoAdminLogon"="1" I hope this fixes things up for you. Good luck.

*Caves in and downloads nLite.* Sounds like there is a ton of stuff this program can do for me, even if I do think I know what I'm doing. Thanks for providing a convenient link in your sig, MCT. Edit: D'oh. That link is to the forums. I thought it went to a page I would be able to dl nLite from. *Throttles MCT.* You tricked me!

It worked fine for me too, Kamil. Pskill is not a native Windows command, so it won't work if you haven't included it yourself on your uA CD. If you have included it, perhaps you aren't calling it properly. I can't help you with that since I've never used pskill myself. I do know, however, that killing Ypager.exe will get rid of the login prompt. The method you choose to kill it is entirely up to you.
-
I didn't misunderstand you at all. Is there any reason this other cmd file can't use cmdow? If you think about it, RunOnceEx.cmd is just a normal .cmd file too. The only thing that differentiates it is the fact that the very first thing it does is execute the cmdow command that hides the window. At least, that's my interpretation of it. Adding that same cmdow line to the start of this file should accomplish exactly what you want. Try using this as a replacement for the code you posted: cmdow @ /HID @echo off start /wait %systemdrive%\install\winamp\winamp507_pro.exe /S /ncrc /install=DSRFQA taskkill /F /IM winamp.exe regedit /s %systemdrive%\install\winamp\regkey.reg REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v WinampAgent /f exit I removed the echo statements since there is no need for them in an invisible environment. Incidently, for Winamp in particular, Alanoll created an MSI for it that you can download from here. This is what I'm using to install Winamp on my uA CD. Of course, this won't help with any of the other cmds that you need to call, but it may let you get rid of this one. Taskkill is a Windows command that, AFAIK, provides essentially the same functionality as pskill. As coded in both of the posted batch files it should do what he needs it to do.
