  1. Thanks to W8 even someone like SJVN gets it right.
  2. .Actually , the prediction was right. There are plenty of copies of 8 at the promo price or less still available - even now - on Amazon UK and elsewhere. Clearly they still can't shift it even at that price. Windows 8 Pro, Upgrade Edition [upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7] (PC): Amazon.co.uk: Software Now MS UK has dropped their Pro price back to the promo price again. To be fair - it is just above the promo price ( 4.99 more including media ). I expect that is because they do not want to undercut the poor retailers who are stiil trying to shift the inventory they already bought . Windows 8 Pro price slashed to £45 | News | PC Pro Wow, that's remarkable. Just waiting for the tech press on this side of the pond to pick up on what's going on with Win8 sales in the UK. --JorgeA The prices are like that across all of Europe. See: Amazon Germany: http://www.amazon.de/Windows-Pro-Upgrade-32-Bit/dp/B008PAGYRU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362496995&sr=8-1 France: http://www.amazon.fr/Windows-Professionnel-mise-depuis-Vista/dp/B008O2RI1A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362496990&sr=8-1 Italy: http://www.amazon.it/Windows-Upgrade-Edition-64-bit-Italiano/dp/B008ZZHP50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362496983&sr=8-1 All around 50€. The Microsoft stores price is at 200 bucks in most countries, but pretty much all third party shops have W8 still at the promo pricing.
  3. The reason I don't participate much now, is because I have some time consuming stuff to do now, not so much the movement of the thread. I for one think the thread should continue. If the reason for the initial closure was indeed due some influence of MS or someone working for them, then letting this thread die is exactly what they wanted.
  4. That disclaimer in bold red letters "If your post is even remotely technical in nature, it probably doesn't belong here. Take another look at the forums and try to find the *right* location before posting a technical question here." is very distracting.
  5. Page 2 quotes Jakob - "W8 is terrible" - Nielsen!
  6. The original article is even better: http://msnblog.msn.com/blogpost.aspx?post=88e95d0e-740d-4b20-8b23-24194a392342 Americans Lose Nearly a Full Day per Year Waiting for Web Pages to Load Lots of Americans are still on a Pentum 60? I hope they run an OS with FDIV fix. "Portal sites are the future". Web browsers can display graphics now? Maybe I should upgrade to that Netscape thing everyone is talking about on usenet.. Is that statement pro W8 or anti W8? Which would that be?! Wait, if rendering complex page layouts is faster now in general with IE 10, why would "the new MSN" profit from that so much? That page is LESS complex (screenshot) in layout due to the metro design than the sites they compare it with (ESPN, CNN). The only reason it's faster is because it's actually SIMPLER than those. But they want to imply it's faster because it's more complex or something!
  7. You've got to admit that they take their retro approach seriously. Soon they will release a benchmark showing that Windows 8 is much faster at displaying 16-bit color graphics than ANY OS in the market.
  8. LOL, now that the botz have reached 80,000 signatures, they have set the signature goal to 100,000! This all really makes their "60 Million Windows 8 licenses sold" even more solid, don't ya think?
  9. I love it that they insert their desperately-wanting-to-be-cool product (Surface) into a negative campaign. That guy in the "don't get scroogled" video gets scroogled while using a surface. The surface is also abused in this leaflet: http://www.scroogled.com/Content/img/thelatest/gmailInfographic.jpg The facebook page of this effort and the comments are a thing of beauty: https://www.facebook.com/scroogledtruth I must admit though that the "skr-oo-gulld" sound file on their homepage is somewhat addicting. I just like to click on that thing.
  10. Cool, it's going again at 100 SPM (Signatures Per Minute).
  11. At least they know how to operate the botz. The petition is reaching 80.000 "signatures" any minute now.
  12. Don't close this thread, this will be a grave mistake. I view it as a general shout-off for all those who got disappointed with Microsoft's decisions in recent times. I also think it attracts lots of new people. I know that I alone have brought in some (from channel9 and techbroil). Splitting it all in multiple threads will make it actually more confusing, since all the posts here do follow a common theme after all. Not to mention it would decrease most certainly hits; many of the newcomers are glued to this thread only. It would be also just a crime to stop CharlotteTheHarlot's streak of great posts.
  13. Oh the irony, Neotards bashing IMAP (because Outlook.com doesn't support it): http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-compares-outlookcom-to-gmail-and-yahoo-mail-releases-new-video#comment-2109833 Yet they bash POP3 and praise IMAP when the topic is about why the mail app in W8 doesn't support POP3.
  14. Microsoft in full-blown politics mode: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-msn-on-windows-8-loads-much-faster-than-competitors Who the heck cares? They must be over-run by Mark Penn clones (Maybe they've been set free from a Microsoft Research clone project). I can't believe they make a fuss about such a non-topic like how fast portal sites load on Windows 8. Even the tards at Neowin aren't impressed. The BS in W8 and Office 2013 seem to be indeed just a symptom of a wider problem there. Microsoft should relocate to Washington D.C. asap.
  15. There are quite many techie idiots actually. The metrotards for once. Then their predecessors, the freetards of old. Read the comments of this and weep: http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2001.12.2.42056.2147.html Then read this: http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2002.1.28.213530.133.html The metrotards are just the reverse of the folks being made fun of there. Same kind of attitude, just different team. I never thought MS would be able to "out-freetard" the freetards and create their own private army of loontarded non-paid $hills, but they have managed to do it... Disclaimer: I fully believe now that there are "paid M$ $shills", but lots of the tards on Neowin seem to be genuinely 'tarded. Ballmer must be so proud! I guess it's his biggest achievment as CEO.
  16. New Scroogle vid! Classy how the video cuts of just when the Google engineer had obviously something to add to her statement. I never cared much about Google and found their "don't be evil" mantra one of the most hypocritical claims in computing.. especially with their tendency to use the content of their "partners" to scoop them out with vertical-search offerings. So it's quite an achievement that this "ScroogledTruth" campaign for the first time ever made me sympathize with Google. Thank you MS. what no Google-praising article on Slashdot et al. has managed to do, you've made it finally possible! Bonus: MS gathered a bunch of hipsters to ask their opinion about Google "reading their mails": Given their answers, it's clear that the camera-team told them that Google quite literally "reads" mails, and not that it's just an automatic algorithm scanning for keywords.
  17. Oh my God, they went insane completely! They are seriously claiming success with this crazy petition: http://www.scroogled.com/TheLatest Blog: Just wow! They want to present this spambotted list as success? (I wonder how they generated the "60 Million Windows 8 licenses sold"...) Google is the undisputed master in web advertizing, they will just obliterate that "petition".. Microsoft is offering them their biggest PR gift in corporate history with it. I can't believe how bonkers they got - this is the nuttiest and most suicidal PR action I've ever seen! Windows 8 and Office 2013 are obviously only the symptom..
  18. Oh man, just LOL: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/ Scroogled will be the bestest campaign in the history of advertizing!
  19. I've read all the major "dystos" - 1984, Brave New World, We, Fahrenheit 451.. In all of them (except for Fahrenheit) the big brother regime came to power after either some disastrous war or through some kind of (forceful) political revolution. The authors were not cynical enough to imagine that force is not needed at all, Angry Birds and Farmville are completely sufficient for hooking up the people to Big Brother freely!
  20. It's now going at around 100 signs per minute! ROFLCOPTER.
  21. LOL! Another 10.000 have been added to this petition (within the last few hours) It's at over 62.000 now. Come on! They have lost all marbles.
  22. Seem to imply that the signing of the petition has been solicited through (mass) e-mail Apparently that user received a message in English and BY REPLYING TO IT signed the petition and her reply was recorded as a comment. (this is also supported by quite a few comments like "I didn't know that .... ", "I am surprised that ...." and similar, this is what you write immediately after having knowledge of something, like after receiving an e-mail pointing you to the petition site) jaclaz So, there is the possibility that Microsoft, or some agency working for them, has spammed people to fill-up this petiton? If yes, then they are insane. Certifiably. Google could turn this campaign completely on its head and it would be a total massacre for MS.
  23. There's also a replacement for sndrec32: %SystemRoot%\system32\SoundRecorder.exe It's pretty barebones though. It doesn't seem to have a hardcoded duration limit for records, but pretty much all the other functions of the old recorder are gone (effects etc.)
  24. More from Scroogled: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/997/086/864/tell-google-to-stop-going-through-your-email-to-sell-ads/?z00m=20503710 Their petition reached over 51 thousand signers. That's really odd, since just a few days ago it was lingering on around 7.000. The sudden surge appears to have happened today (21st February) and yesterday. Just look at the dates of the petitions. The 21ers go on for over 70 pages! Looks fishy, smells fishy.
  25. And Sony: http://www.zdnet.com/ps4-socials-all-the-gaming-says-sony-but-why-7000011602/ Hurra! Soon we will excel all those techno-dystopia movies. Angry Birds 3 will be only playable after you let Windows 10 analyze your DNA code, which will promptly be send to Bodybook, saved and processed there. If it will find that you're prone to illnesses, that info will be broadcasted to all your friends, to warn them not to spend much time with you and develop stronger bonds.. Your health-care insurance will of course automatically go up. And your spouse will get bombarded with ads for divorce lawyers. Angry Birds fans and Celltards (the Windows 10 UI) will cheer them up for this, and if you protest any step in the cycle, you will get labeled of being afraid of change!
