  1. Actually rumors say J Michael Straczynski [creator of Babylon 5, Crusade + Jeremiah TV series and writer of Marvel comic Amazing Spider-Man] allegedly stated recently at a sci-fi convention that he wants to revive Babylon 5 in a new TV series if he finds a studio to finance it.Let's hope he will...
  2. Ah, when I clicked the link you gave before, there was another link on that page to the worst sci-fi of all time, so I thought Farscape might be one of those. (unfortunately, I don't get the sci-fi channel). Sounds like the show might be worth looking into. I generally like things by the Jim Henson Co.-Ex Please tell me, what is the worst sci-fi of all time?Just curious. BTW: SciFi channel is not the only 1 that broadcasts Farscape [reruns only, of course] anymore, Farscape is now available in syndication [usually over the air channels]. I believe either USA, TNT, Fox or/and WB have it. But u got to check local schedules. Best place to find out exactly which channels broadcast Farscape in the USA: http://www.watchfarscape.com/ Or if u don't watch TV, u can always rent/borrow/buy the DVDs/VHS tapes: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/external...pe&mode=blended If u ever decide to watch Farscape, please start with season 1 ep 1, and go from there in chronological order. They have 4 regular 22 episode seasons + a 4-hour miniseries [the conclusion to the series] called Peacekeeper Wars. If u start watching somewhere in the middle, u won't understand much, and will probably stop watching out of frustration, as some people I know have. But IMHO it's worth your time if u are even remotely a sci-fi fan, because Farscape is the best sci-fi TV show since Babylon 5.
  3. I only find appropriate [starting with season 9] to call Stargate SG-1 "Fargate SG-1"... Besides the 2 main Farscape actors [ben Browder (SGC Lt Col Cameron Mitchell) + Claudia Black (thief/trader/mercenary/former G'ould host Vala Malduran)], the Stargate franchise [including the Stargate Atlantis spin-off TV series] producers brought in for the new SG-1 season 9 + Atlantis season 2 [both premiered July 15 2005 on SciFi channel in the USA] a few other known faces from various popular/cult sci-fi TV shows + films: Stargate SG-1 season 9: - Lou Gossett Jr [rebel Jaffa leader Gerak] best known from the sci-fi film Enemy Mine [1985] [he played the "enemy" alien]. He won an Oscar award. - Beau Bridges [Gen MG Hank Landry new commander of SGC = replaced Don S Davis who played Gen MG George Hamond, former commander of SGC] best known from Showtime channel sequel TV series Outer Limits 2-hour pilote episode The Sandkings [1995]. He won an Emmy award. - Lexa Doig [Dr Carolyn Lam new SGC Chief Physician, also Gen Landry's daughter = replaced Theryl Rothery, former SGC Chief Physician] best known from Andromeda [Gene Roddenberry's early work] TV series. Lexa Doig is married in real life to Michael Shanks who plays Dr Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. Stargate Atlantis season 2: - Jason Momoa [Atterian ronin warrior from the Pegasus Galaxy Ronon Dex] best known from Baywatch + North Shore TV series. - Mitch Pileggi [Col Steven Caldwell commander of the mixed G'ould + Asgard technology based battleship Daedalus] best known from the abduction + sci-fi genre TV series X-Files. The wait will be over... September 30 2005: Firefly is coming back as Serenity feature film in USA theatres: http://www.serenitymovie.com/
  4. DivX 6 [early beta versions anyway] can be installed on 98/98SE/ME OSes. See these links: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#DVX Tips: Install DivX Media Filters: http://download.divx.com/labs/DivXMediaFor...ilterBuild1.exe which installs the audio filter component DIVXDEC.AX build 5.9.1.1495 [actually early 6 beta] + DivXMedia.ax [new, only installed by DivX 6, allows WMP9 + WMP10 to play DivX movies natively] on 98SE/ME. Here comes the "catch" [u must have 2K/XP/2K3/Vista pre-installed in dual/multiple boot setup to be able to install official Divx 6 edition ]: Reboot to Windows 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista and install the DivX 6 package: http://download.divx.com/divx/DivXPlay.exe Reboot back to 98SE/ME and copy all DivX 6 files from the 2K/XP/2K3/Vista %windir%\system32 folder to your 98SE/ME %windir%\system folder. Then register the DLL + AX files [example]: regsvr32 /s %windir%\system\divx.dll regsvr32 /s %windir%\system\divxdec.ax From now on u should have DivX 6 running on your 98SE/ME OS. B) Note: This may or may not work with your 98SE/ME OS, depending on your video hardware. At DivX Labs [where they post all betas]: http://labs.divx.com/ u may find other DivX builds I may have missed that might also work with 98SE/ME. Note that DivX 6 requires a better/faster/newer video controller with full DX 9.0c support built into the drivers [ATI or NVidia], compared to older DivX 5. Make sure u have DX 9.0c and most recent [eventually beta] video drivers installed. If u have an older video card, u should first install DivX 5.2.1 [last build that officially supports 98SE/ME]: http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX521.exe and [optional] after that install DivX Plasma 5.3 [discontinued, beta only codec]: http://labs.divx.com/archives/2004_11.html If using MPC [Media Player Classic]: make sure u have current build 6.4.8.4: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#MED Run MPC -> click View -> Options -> Output -> try different settings until u get it right, because DirectShow playback is hardware dependent. U could disable all hardware acceleration features from MPC, WMP, DVD software [like PowerDVD, WinDVD, NeroPlayer etc], audio card controls, 98SE/ME Control Panel etc, but you'll experience slow, choppy and pixelated [read "ugly"] video/DVD/movie playback. Hope this helps.
  5. OK, sorry for the delay.... the file has been added to the post on page '27' with the preview pic.Did u mean this post:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349...st&p=371794 Appears in my browser on page '24' [i probably got different MSFN page settings]. Thanks, got it. Replaced the older 1 in 98SE2ME: http://www.mdgx.com/4 Added it to 95LOGOS.ZIP [939 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/95LOGOS.ZIP Details here: 95LOGOS.TXT P.S.: Just in case u don't know: Farscape is an original Sci-Fi TV series which ran for 4 seasons + a one time 4 hour miniseries. Aired first on the SciFi channel [uSA cable only TV channel]: http://www.scifi.com/ Was rated best sci-fi on TV 1999-2001 by known publications + critics in USA, UK, Australia, Germany etc. Won "The Best Syndicated/Cable TV Series Saturn Award" 3 times in a row: 2000, 2001 + 2002: http://www.saturnawards.org/ Was created by Jim Henson Company, also responsible for the Muppets Show, Dark Crystal + Labyrinth, among their many achievements in entertainment. They also own the Jim Henson Creature Shop, which did most of the animatronics work for the Star Wars films (all 6 episodes). More info: http://www.mdgx.com/scifi.htm#FSC Farscape: http://www.farscape.com/ Jim Henson Company: http://www.henson.com/ Farscape on SciFi channel: http://www.scifi.com/farscape/ Farscape Peacekeeper Wars on SciFi channel: http://www.scifi.com/farscape/peacekeeperwars/ Watch Farscape: http://www.watchfarscape.com/ Farscape World: http://www.farscapeworld.com/ Jim Henson Company completed production on their newest theatrical film called MirrorMask, due to premiere September 23 2005 in the USA: http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/mirrormask/ Have fun.
  6. I've read the entire documentation [on + off-line], but I was hoping it would work anyway. The worst part is everybody I know has cable or dialup, but no DSL. ;(
  7. Looking forward to test your pack. Good luck.
  8. 9x logo guide [+ animated]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/95LOGOS.TXT 9x logos [939 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/95LOGOS.ZIP Have fun.
  9. Actually older Q229670 [GDI*.* build 4.10.2223] has been superseded by newer Q289635 [GDI*.* build 4.10.2225]:Microsoft Windows 98/98 SE ICM Display Color Matching GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE (build 4.10.2002 for Win98/98 SP1 + build 4.10.2225 for Win98 SE) Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=289635 Direct download [416 KB, English]: http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/CPatch/msupdate/.../289635usa8.exe also listed here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SE If u need other "hotfixes" not available anywhere, u may want to email MS your requests. Sometimes [and if you're lucky] they still honor such requests. More details on this subject: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=31579 If I may ask you a favor: please send me a copy of the ones you get, so I can post them here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SE Thanks in advance. Hope this helps.
  10. You're in danger of being "snooped" upon only if your connection/network is unprotected [no hardware/software firewall, no antivirus monitor, no antispyware monitor] *and* more so if file + print sharing are enabled. The risk factor is further increased by not installing all available Internet Explorer security patches [especially KB896727, which is *the* current IE security patch]: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC This is valid even if not using IE for browsing, because of IE "integration" into the OS. Worse, if NetBios protocol is also enabled, ports 137, 138 + 139 can be Achille's heel. And these are only the most obvious weak points of entry for malware and the likes. Details here [long but good read]: http://www.mdgx.com/xp2.htm#XFG Security links: http://www.mdgx.com/modem.htm#TS Firewalls [free(ware)]: http://www.mdgx.com/fw.htm#FWL Antispyware [free(ware)]: http://www.mdgx.com/fw.htm#ASP Spool32 is the printer spooler, which loads every time a printing aware application sends a request for a [pending or sheduled] printing job, print preview or adding page(s)/document(s) to the printing queue, even if there is no printer installed. The bad news is spool32 does remain resident [thank you eidenk] once it has been "activated", and also takes up valuable resources [besides being targeted by malware], at least until the user stops it, anyway. Spool32 can be easily closed in all 9x OSes: Download + install CoolKill [797 KB, freeware]: http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/downloads/coolkill.zip Run COOLKILL.EXE -> right-click on the CoolKill icon in Taskbar tray -> highlight SPOOL32.EXE -> left-click on it to terminate this process. Hope this helps.
  11. All available 98SE updates [English edition only] are listed here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SE WMP updates: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm IE 5/6 updates: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm DirectX updates: http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm All other system updates: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm Hope this helps.
  12. Oh, this method does not require a phone line. You just install this protocol, then run RASPPPOE.EXE and it finds available services in your local network. Then it creates a Dial-Up Connection for your Ethernet Adapter. You connect to internet just through Ethernet adapter.I'm sorry for bothering you. I've checked dll's used by RASPPPOE.EXE : INDICDLL.DLL , MSVCRT.DLL , OLE32.DLL , RPCRT4.DLL , TAPI32.DLL , VERSION.DLL ADVAPI32.DLL , COMCTL32.DLL , GDI32.DLL , KERNEL32.DLL , SHELL32.DLL , SHLWAPI.DLL , USER32.DLL but I don't know how it may help. Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can do something to fix this.Edit: I wasn't able to make RASPPPoE work with my USB cable modem, no matter what I tried, short of reinstalling Windows. But looking at the DLLs used, this is what you can do to try to fix this: 1. Backup INDICDLL.DLL [from WinME = installed by 98SE2ME], restore the original 98SE file from C:\W98SEOLD\SYSTEM or extract it from the 98SE CABs if u don't have a backup, and then copy it to %windir%\SYSTEM . Reboot, and see if your connection works. You may have to run WINIPCFG and press the "Renew all" button. Reboot 1 more time. 2. If that doesn't work, repeat all steps above with TAPI32.DLL . All other DLLs on the list work properly as far as I can tell, and some are not even replaced by 98SE2ME. Either way, please post your results here when you're done. Hope this helps.
  13. What does this mean ? It is part of choose.inf, quiet.inf and reboot.inf in the Media Player 6.4 installer. I guess some1 [with too much time to spare + sense of humor] wanted to add something "original" to the WMP 6.4 INFs... "blueberry.pancakes" = fake value, can be safely removed or replaced with anything else, with no consequences. "NotCopy.Copy" = fake section and value under the [DefaultInstall] section, can be safely removed or replaced with anything else. [sourceDisksFiles] = INF section, not needed, can be safely removed. As far as I'm aware, the only mandatory sections + values for a minimal [but functional] INF file to operate properly are: [Version] = needs 1 of these 2 values: Signature=$CHICAGO$ = interpreted same way by both 9x and NTx OSes or: Signature=$WINDOWS NT$ = strictly for NTx OSes [DefaultInstall] = can be renamed to anything else, even no name [] or completely removed [sourceDisksNames] = minimum functional value: 1=,,0 Except for the "Signature=$bla bla$" value which must go under the [Version] section, and for the "1=,,0" value which must go under the [sourceDisksNames] section, all other sections can be empty. Even an empty [0 bytes] INF file can still be run without consequences [but it is useless, of course], and doesn't generate any errors nor messages/dialogs. Official MS INF documentation [most relevant]: - Win98 RK: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...t7/wrkappc.mspx - Win2000 DDK: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/se...t_inf_files.asp Hope this helps.
  14. I don 't know if you have that (it's not on your page) or are interested by it, MDGx. I don't know where I got it from, maybe on MS FTP site. I've heard of it, and I may still have the URL(s) safely stored somewhere. See this page: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/deb...installx86.mspx and this 1: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/deb...winmedebug.mspx DDK = Driver Developer Kit As far as I know these are strictly developer packs, of no interest to "normal" users, unless you're into making/debugging your own ME drivers. It may be of some interest [?] to Maximus-Decim, who created + maintains the 98SE Native USB Drivers pack, based mostly on the WinME driver model [*.SYS]. Hope this helps.
  15. This complicates things, I'm afraid. Please correct me if I'm wrong: From the little I've read about the www.raspppoe.com implementation, this method of using an Ethernet (NIC) adapter to connect to an ISP [PPPoE protocol] requires a phone line [or a power line where such standard is supported] to connect the Ethernet card to the internet, something similar to using most types of DSL modems, which de facto use the PPPoE protocol. If this is true, I can't experiment with this protocol, because my ISP is a cable provider [Comcast], and I connect to their servers with a USB cable modem [no separate Ethernet adapter], which uses a different protocol: DHCP over LAN.
  16. Many thanks for the offer.I checked your list against mine, and it seems I do have all patches. On a side note, I noticed a few obsolete ones on your list: Older Q273991 [VSERVER.VXD 4.90.3001] was replaced by newer Q273727 [VSERVER.VXD 4.90.3002]. Older Q282132 was replaced by newer Q892211. Older Q311311 was replaced by newer Q314757. Older Q328145 and newer Q329048 both install ZIPFLDR.DLL. Older Q811630 and Q825119 [MS03-044] were replaced by newer Q896358 [MS05-026]. If you're missing any of these patches, please see: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME and: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm Hope this helps.
  17. More info on CacheWriteDelay + related patches: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip21.htm#CWD Hope this helps. Do u have any ME patches that are not listed here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME If u do, could u please send me a copy? E-mail Many thanks in advance.
  18. Have u tried to ask Microsoft?A place to start: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ I would also google microsoft.com, like this [example]: http://www.google.com/search?q=millennium+...3Amicrosoft.com Hope this helps.
  19. I've never tried to hex/chop/etc movie maker, SR/WFP/PCHealth or their INFs, and as I said before, I don't care about MS/MSN online games, so I don't have any scripts/files.But you can get all files including the INFs [if u open the INFs with Notepad u can see where each file belongs] from any WinME setup CD [extract from CABs] or from a ME installation, and start from there. Also, u can use this collection of ME components uninstall INF scripts [free] for inspiration: http://www.beta10.com/oppcomme.htm The catch is that such a complex project requires a lot of trial-and-error and tedious testing to get it right. I for one have spent almost 1 year until I got 98SE2ME to work properly, because 98SE2ME "transplants" over 700 files from ME setup CD. Good luck.
  20. As far as I can tell, only Internet games from ME or XP can be installed on 98SE with a lil bit of tweaking. But I'm not interested in MS/MSN games, so I'm not going to do this. To install SR/WFP or PCHealth from ME [the ones from XP/2003/Vista won't work] on 98SE, one needs a lot of file hexing and INF "chopping". If u succeed to safely install SR/WFP/PCHealth from ME or XP on 98SE, please post your findings/scripts/code here, so we can all benefit. Movie Maker should be fairly easy to install, but I haven't tried. But the catch is Movie Maker [as far as I recall], needs the ME versions of AVICAP*.DLL + AVIFIL*.DLL in %windir%\SYSTEM [the ones from XP/2003/Vista won't work], which brings up errors in movie/video playback in 98SE. That's why I haven't added these 4 ME files to 98SE2ME. Kernel32.dll nor other similar system files from 2000/XP/2003/Vista cannot be installed on any 9x OSes. OS core + kernel code in NTx is completely different. Of course if any1 is familiar with MS internal code, this is theoretically doable, as long as one rebuilds the code from ground up and applies it to 9x, but even then, that's a lot of work [we're talking here about rebuilding an entire OS], and a bunch of other system files would need to be recoded too. If you'd like to see which files can be transplanted safely from XP/2003 to 98SE, please see this guide: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#XP and this 1 to install WMP10 for XP onto 98SE: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=35997...ndpost&p=309394 On my 98SE PC I'm also using these files from 2003 SP1 [update: current HTML Help files are now provided by MS = official patch KB 896358: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-026.mspx ]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349...ndpost&p=328031 Hope this helps.
  21. Please try this:1. Install current 98SE2ME edition [as of 7-14-2005]: http://www.mdgx.com/4 on a 98SE system without any older 98SE2ME versions installed. 2. Install Maximum-Decim's NUSB drivers [98SE2ME should be already installed]: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43605 2. (Re)Install your modem drivers. Make sure u have newest modem drivers from your modem manufacturer. If that doesn't work, please post your results here. Unfortunately, because I don't have a DSL modem [RASPPPOE], I can't test this. Hope this helps.
  22. How about this?... The ME style graphics are gone, and I redrew the Windows logo so it's cleaner. Also, didn't use diffusion in the outer glow and drew a starburst highlight effect. Should the starburst be a bit more faint? -Ex IMO:Actually this 1 looks better than the 1st one. The starburst effect looks good the way it is. I like this 1 better, I'm going to make it the official 98SE2ME logo. Keep up the good work. Do u have a d/l link for this new logo? Thanks a bunch. PS: Did u mean Farscape "Starburst" edition DVDs? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/external...rburst&mode=DVD
  23. Hi jones23, and welcome to MSFN forums. IE 5.5 SP2 fixes for ME can be installed on 98SE only if using IE 5.5 SP2, *not* if using IE 6.0 or 6.0 SP1. All IE 5.x/6.x fixes are here: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm All u need to do is extract the files by running [in this example all files will be extracted into C:\TEMP]: KBxxxxxx.EXE /C /Q /T:C:\TEMP or by opening respective EXE into PowerArchiver, WinZip or similar tool that supports MS CAB files: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP Then u need to copy the DLL + OCX files to %windir%\system [usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM] only from native MS-DOS mode. Either reboot to native MS-DOS: http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htm#MEN or exit Windows to native MS-DOS: http://www.mdgx.com/last3.htm#DOS2DOS and replace the files u extracted. Then load Windows by running WIN or reboot. But make sure u also run the INF file to also apply the Registry settings [if any]. In most cases u can also install IE 5.5 SP2 fixes after file extraction [see above] by running the INF file [example using C:\TEMP above = entire command must be on 1 line] like this: RUNDLL32 %windir%\SYSTEM\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection C:\TEMP\KBxxxxxx.INF,DefaultInstall As far as I know Gape's SP 2.0.2 does not include IE, WMP, DX, MDAC, Jet, XML etc fixes. Please see Gape's SP install guide forum for details: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=38193 and Gape's SP 2.0.2 forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=52189 After becoming familiar with Gape's SP, please post your questions [if any] in these 2 forums above. 98SE2ME [the only 1 I have created + maintain], installs only few ME system patches that are compatible with 98SE. 98SE2ME does not include any 98SE updates, nor IE, WMP, DX, MDAC etc, only installs ~ 700 ME system files from your WinME setup CD [English]. Please read READ1ST.TXT for complete details: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT This is the 98SE2ME forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 if u need to learn more or/and if u have any 98SE2ME related questions. Hope this helps.
  24. Try this:1. Install Maximum-Decim's NUSB drivers [98SE2ME should be already installed]: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43605 2. (Re)Install your modem drivers [thank u PsycoUnc]. Make sure u have newest modem drivers from your modem manufacturer. If that doesn't work, please post your results here. Hope this helps.
  25. Install 98SE SP 2.0.2: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html Optional: Install 98SE2ME because it installs WinME updated USB driver support: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S Install NUSB: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 Install Netgear drivers for your adapter: http://kbserver.netgear.com/downloads_support.asp Hope this helps.
