oomek: yes, the script have been tested and it has been working correctly for more than half a year.
-
Please, enable logging and provide debug.log then. EDIT: I also found another source of your problems - you installed into Program Files where nobody has access rights. Thus DWM won't log anything and it will not save symbols there either.
-
Please, enable logging and provide debug.log then. The script on the website automatically downloads license.key file. If it does not, then problem is in your browser. Then, symbols will be downloaded in the background and it can take some time (do not expect it will take a few milliseconds).

Just because I learned that many people don't read carefully, I remind it here again: Aero Glass for Win8 does not work on Windows 8.1Aero Glass for Win8.1 does not work on Windows 8My PayPal e-mail does NOT serve as technical support and you will not get any answer if you mail to it, because this mailbox is not monitored. This application is free. However, it does not mean that you can use all of this features. It simply means that it is freely available to download, it can be freely used for personal and business use, on unlimited number of computers, by unlimited number of users and for unlimited time, and it provides you promised Aero Glass effect for free.If you want to report some problem, enable logging (see Guide how to do that), restart dwm.exe and provide debug.log after the problem appears.Do NOT install Aero Glass into non-writable location !!!Aero Glass directory must be accessible by everyone, because DWM runs under different user credentials.Windows with extended glass frame render their captions on their own and thus DWM (and neither my Aero Glass) cannot influence whether the glow effect is rendered behind them.If you don't get glass effect when running on the battery, then read the guide how to change this behaviour.Aero Glass for Win8.1 works on Spring2014 Update without any problem if you install the latest public symbols. These symbols are downloaded automatically in private version. Otherwise, you must get them on your own, several ways to get them has been described in this topic. If you get "DWM incompatibility error" message, it is because you have installed Windows update which modified your Desktop Windows Manager. Such situation can be solved by installing public symbols for the new version of DWM. Private/Full/Donated version downloads the symbols automatically, so you don't have to do anything except waiting for a while. Otherwise, you must get them on your own, several ways to get them has been described in this topic. You can also check http://glass8.eu/guide.html#symbols!!! READ BEFORE ASKING !!! .. the other most frequent problems will be pinned here ...

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you version 1.0 of Aero Glass reimplementation for Windows 8.1. This software is a bit different story than Aero Glass for Win8, because almost all glass code has been removed from Windows 8.1 so complete reimplementation was needed. The development of Aero Glass effect for Windows 8 was pretty easy but I had no knowledge around Desktop Windows Manager at all. Situation in Windows 8.1 is opposite - I already got enough knowledge but I had to wrote all glass code from scratch. There are some small differences from Windows 8 version: 1) as already been said during the development phase, this software is only the extension to DWM rendering engine and hooks DWM functions only. It does not hook theme service (to bypass theme signature) anymore nor any other process to explicitely enable blur behind any window (e.g. behind taskbar). It just blurs the areas where it is instructed to do so. 2) to correctly inject this library into DWM process, the small background task is required to be running. When this background process is not running, DWMGlass.dll won't be injected automatically on user logon, dwm.exe restart etc. --- A bit limited version of this software is free for your personal usage. Download and all information are available on its website: http://www.glass8.eu There is a beta version of the small application intended to change several parameters of Aero Glass: http://www.glass8.eu/stuff/gui.7z Please, remember that this software is done in my free time and it is not done for any profit. You won't get the full service as in the case of regular paid software.

Sorry not to answer your questions. I probably overlooked them. "Why there are no stripes when using Aero Peek" Because they are managed by Uxtheme service so those stripes must be included in your theme. DWM (and my Aero Glass) draws stripes only on glass (blurred) areas. "why does this program makes transparent even those visual styles which weren’t created for using with glass effects" I don't understand this question much. There is no "theme for glass" and "theme not for glass", DWM just renders glass everywhere it is instructed regardless the used theme. "why doesn’t this program automatically check (like Windows 7 DWM does) the roundness of window frames and set the value by itself without needing user to edit registry" How could it detect whether your image contains round images? Or is there some theme flag which which I am not aware of?
-
It would be also good to try previous versions to detect whether problem started to appear with certain change. + I recommend to enable logging on your private build
-
oomek: it is glitch in your custom atlas image.
-
Please, could you verify how your computer runs without Aero Glass for several days (maybe more, because glass effect increases HW utilization so any problems can appear more faster)? This topic will become a mess if you report here every problem with your computer. EDIT: btw, I just noticed one interesting thing on Win8.1 32-bit (I have not checked 64-bit) which happens regardless Aero Glass (= it happens even if Aero Glass is not installed). When I disable video adapter in Device Manager, I end up with black screen and nothing to do except restarting. It did not happen any time before so it must be some new bug in Win8.1 itself.
-
What's your resolution and display setup?
-
That private build won't display anything in debug.log because it's disabled by default to improve performance. The final version will always log fatal errors.
-
I guess it is because AeroRainbow sets color alpha value to 255 (which means fully opaque) which is inconsistent how the colorization color should be generated.
-
Any urgent fixes/changes which need to be done now?
-
No matter what the real reason was, you can achieve the same thing in Windows 7/Vista by disabling transparency. So removing it due to battery, performance, appearance, etc. seems to be a bit off to me
-
Thanks for report. However, it is crash in CAnimationEngine which is bug in DWM and this crash can be easily reproduced even when Aero Glass is not installed.
-
This error code (0x8898008d) has already been discussed. It means "No HW rendering device is available for this operation.". Your video adapter or driver probably turned off for some reason.
-
If dwm.exe crashes due to unhandled exception then minidump.dmp is generated. Please upload it. If dwm.exe is terminated due to handled unexpected fatal error, then system log contains event entry with error code. Please provide it. If dwm.exe is terminated without minidump/event log and debug.log contains "Uninstalling..." line (visible only if logging is enabled), it means that dwm.exe was naturally restarted. If dwm.exe is terminated without minidump/event log and debug.log does not contains "Uninstalling..." line, it means that something in your computer terminate dwm.exe process forcibly.
-
epic: it has never been said that any glass look from MS has rounded corners
-
Glow color and glow intensity are Uxtheme service thing, so no, they won't be settable in DWM.
-
Those questions have be answered million-times in this topic.

AERO GLASS for Win8.1 Release Candidate 3Fixes for occasional blur glitchesFixed bug that settings was not sometimes loadedModified settings to allow adjusting composited (mode 3) glow effect size: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM:TextGlowMode (DWORD): HIWORD specifies glow size (0 = theme default), LOWORD specifies glow modeSome other small fixes
-
The error simply means that your key file is invalid or the key does not match your machine id.
-
Small X-Mas present to any fair donator. If you already reached your key limit, you can generate 3 additional keys for your need from 24.12. to 26.12.
-
Thanks bigmuscle for clearing that up for me - so while WindowBlinds is working fine (without blur though) your solution should provide better performance as it does "not take over" the system that much, if I understand correctly. I cannot compare the performance because I don't have any real benchmarks. The main difference should be the application compatibility. Since my Aero Glass is only extension to DWM then all applications (that work with DWM) will work with my Aero Glass too. But because WindowBlinds is complete skinning engine, you can't ensure the same compatibility as default Windows skinning engine.

P.S. everyone can study this article to enable blur behind taskbar: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa969537(v=vs.85).aspx
