Hi blackwingcat, another new problem is that Oracle is no longer updating Java 6. I reinstalled Java 7 and while the present applets in the cache still work fine it's impossible to run new ones because they did away with low setting in the Security tab. That forces the Security permission box dialog to show every time. The problem is it's crashing and it won't permit the applet to run. Tested in XP and it's ok. Hopefully it can be fixed.

Is anyone else having a problem with the latest Firefox 24 nightly? It won't download anything anymore but it does work in XP. I'm still on ExKernal v2.2n9 so maybe blackwingcat's latest version fixes it? Everything else is going good so that's why I tend not to upgrade. Edit: after more testing it will download if you go to the Tools/Download box and retry. It just won't do it automatically anymore as it does in XP. It seems to be a change they made in the last few days that's affecting W2k.

Java 7.7 working just fine here so far using Kernel 17N. It's possible there's some sites not doing well. Haven't installed the 2.2e kernel yet, will probably do that tomorrow. Here's two sites to test: http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm http://www.javatester.org/version.html

Thanks, unfortunately have to use Java every now and then so if it doesn't work good under the latest kernel I can always regress back to 17n. After installing 2.2 there was an extra service running in Task Manager but couldn't figure out what it was. Finally nailed it down to Cryptographic Services? After reverting to 17n it was manually deleted from the Registry since it couldn't be stopped, only disabled. The uninstaller doesn't remove it apparently.

Hi blackwingcat, the latest kernel 2.2d breaks Java 7.7 on Firefox nightly as the browser just crashes. So far I haven't tried the Java 6 version with 2.2d but since kernel 17n and Java 7.7 get along good together I've reinstalled kernel 17n for now. Edit: the minimum requirements for kernel 2.2d were installed, including the IE6 update and Root. Except for Java everything seemed to work alright.

blackwingcat, nice job, all is well again with v17n.

Hi blackwingcat, thanks for all your work. It appears you might have made some fixes regarding the video stop error I was having, what do I need to download? There's the latest v17k and then an extended core with a VGA update, are both of those needed?

Several weeks ago I posted about this so I'm glad someone else is now seeing it, hopefully a fix can be worked out. It's a little annoying although the latest Firefox and Thunderbird are still working good.
-
blackwingcat does this mean that you updated it to possibly fix the blue stop error? Anybody else having problems with the latest Java 7 Update 5? It appears broken for me so I went back to Update 3.

What I've got is the ATI AGP 4600 series. The last good drivers to work with this card are the 912 beta. I've tried nearly everyone of the 10 and 11 drivers and they would either crash the system or certain sites like youtube video wouldn't play properly. If we can get through Firefox's 17 version without it breaking again then the Kernelex 17c will do for me because FF17 is next for their ESR and that lasts right through 2014.

Hi blackwingcat thought I'd let you know that I couldn't use the latest kernel July 10th Version. It installed but wouldn't get past the start screen and a blue stop error. It was related to the video. Was able to uninstall in safe mode and put 17c back. Works good again.

Hi, I try to run Firefox 15.0a1(May 8th) + Kernel v15r2. There is no problem. Wonder what it could be? It doesn't do that in XP, only Win2000 with the KernelEx. Tried them in Safe Mode too, same thing. Checked everything and the programs still work fine so I can live with it.

Anyone else experiencing an extra DOS window opening up with Firefox and Thunderbird 15 nightlies? It's not really a big deal since both program versions still work ok but I was just curious to see if it was only happening to me.

Installed latest v15p but ran into several problems. First was the icons seemed to lack much color when selected, almost as if the display settings were on 256 colors. These are the custom ATI 9.0 drivers so I thought maybe a newer version might fix that but unfortunately the Device Manager would not initialize or open and it was impossible to update any drivers. After uninstalling v15p everything's back to normal. Will probably return to v15j for now, won't have Thunderbird but everything else seems to be fine.

Thanks I'll go through it tomorrow or sometime this week and let you know how it goes. You've got a lot of good info on your site, the latest UURollup says it requires Update Rollup 1 to be present in the system so I looked and that appears to be this update from page 2 of the thread: Windows2000-UU-KB914783-KB974266-x86-ENU.exe (replaces KB914783-KB943729) posted on Feb 21st so if I go with yours I want to make sure it's right.

Where do you download wildbill's latest? I'm going hold off for blackwingcat's v16 for the Thunderbird compatibility but I would like to see what he's got.
-
Just tested 15j and everything works good so far. The only snag I had was Outpost firewall had a problem with the old rules but it's fine after creating new ones from scratch, so I can live with that. It's just nice to have the latest Firefox and Flash up and running and Office too. Hope it works the same for everyone else. One question blackwingcat: is is it difficult or time consuming to add new dependencies? I'm getting an error for Thunderbird 13 nightly "The procedure entry point SHSetUnreadMailCountW could not be located in the dynamic library shell32.dll". It would be wonderful to get all of these programs going but I know that's not possible. If I had the time I'd go through it and help out with the project.

Thanks blackwingcat. Another program this fixes is Office 2007 compatibility pack for Office 2003. The latest Service Pack 3 when installed on Win 2000 hoses it and there’s no way to make it work again. Microsoft could care less, they probably did it on purpose. I checked everything, went into the registry and tried every key I could find and the only way to get it working right was to uninstall the whole Office 2003 program then reinstall it, including all the patches, a real pain. But with kernelex SP3 is no problem now. I even went to Microsoft Update and got the latest patches for it. So if this did nothing else but keep Office going it would give my W2k box a few more years of life since I use Office almost everyday.

blackwingcat us beggars are back hoping we can get the 15 version soon. The Firefox 13 nightly looks good on XP be nice to keep it going on W2k too. If not I notice the ESR version is available for download on the portable page and they'll keep updating the 10 version for almost a year or more so if worse comes to worse we'll at least get the security fixes. http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./

blackwingcat thanks for the update, I look forward to v14 in English. The last Skype to work was v5.0.0.156 but I see from the link that with your kernekex installed 5.33 apparently is ok. Now that Microsoft has bought them out I know it's just a matter of time until the older versions stop working altogether. In fact I expect it won't even install on XP anymore either very soon, probably in a year or two. Believe it or not I've got XP and Win 7 as well but still prefer W2k simply because I consider it to be their best OS. ppgrainbow: 3.6 will probably be dead after April. It looks like Pale Moon takes the updated code from Mozilla then customizes it, I'm not sure they do any of the programming themselves on the security fixes. Strangely their later versions won't install on W2k even though Mozilla's still do. You need at least XP SP2.
-
ppgrainbow I'm getting the same error with both the UX and regular 13 nightlies. Hopefully blackwingcat will update this for us. If not we may have to rely on a fork like Pale Moon. They may or may not continue the 3.6 series when Mozilla stops support in April.

blackwingcat the latest version 13f works great for installing the updated flash, java, and VLC player on W2k. Great job. Firefox 13 UX nightly though is giving me this error: "The procedure entry point SHParseDisplayName could not be located in the dynamic link library Shell32.dll." Any chance this can be fixed? Also is there any hope for including these newer programs: Skype 5.8.0.154 Quick Time 7.71.80.42 Adobe Reader 10.1.2 Skype 5.8 installs but is giving me an error when trying to open it. Your ATI Radeon drivers for my AGP 4600 card have been excellent, been using them for a few years no problem.
