The WSH 5.8 install package from 2009 was what I was trying to install but it won't, the buttons on the interface are frozen. Does it require registry updates to work properly or can we just extract the files and copy them over into system32? Microsoft will be updating 5.8 until at least 2019, that's why it's better to have that version instead of 5.7.
-
It's for use with other programs only? I know it's a compnonent of IE8 but thought it could be installed independently as an upgrade to the system. That would be better since POSReady 2009 will be updated until 2019 while Vista ends in 2017.

Are there any prerequisites for installing Script Host 5.8 other than the Kernel32? The buttons are frozen on the interface so it's impossible to intall it. I've got 5.7 already on the system, would just copying over the 11 newer files be sufficient or does it require registry updates to work properly?

Got it, thanks. No problem with the AMD drivers, the 9.12beta still work well enough for now although eventually they'll probably become outdated given the increasing demand of the newer flash versions.
-
blackwingcat, one of your September updates that patches the atmfd.dll font driver is missing the SP3QFE folder containing the atmfd.dll file, is it inside the update.exe in the update folder instead? Thanks to the PosReady 2009 hack I'm still getting all the latest XP updates so I just copied the newest version 5.1.2.246 into Win2000 but if it is in your update then I'll save it in case it's needed. If it's possible could you look into updating AMD legacy drivers to 13.1? That's the most current version for XP that can be downloaded here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16757/

Isn't the ATI 4000 series and under considered legacy? That's what I have and the last release version in XP that covered those cards was 13.1 and for Windows 7 it's 13.9. XP's can be downloaded here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16757/ Your 12.6 version for 2000 also covers them but 13.4 does not, which is why I won't attempt to install those. Incidentally, I reverted back to 9.12 beta because I was getting strange glitches on some sites with 12.6. Flash hardware acceleration works as well with those older drivers with no crashes so I'll just stay with them for now.

Hi blackwingcat, this is not a must-have request but I was wondering if you have considered updating the ATI legacy versions? I'm using the 9.12 beta and although it's still decent enough it's beginning to get old for these newer versions of flash and other video formats. There's some occasional skipping and instability issues. The last legacy XP release version I believe was 13.1 and for Windows 7 it's 13.9. In my XP system 12.6 is installed and even that would be a significant improvement for 2000. Edit: ok I seem to recall testing the 12.6 version a while back, which does have legacy support with no success as flash videos kept crashing but now after reinstalling I found out why. Previously flash hardware acceleration was on and that was causing it. With that turned off these drivers appear to work fine. I'm going to keep testing for a few days but there does seem to be an improvement. The youtube videos are clearer and smoother.

Excellent, thanks I'll download it ASAP. Java is one of those programs with so many holes in it that anything less than the latest version is like playing Russian roulette with your system. :--) MrMaguire, For now I'm staying with Java 6, it's good enough. But I am curious how you're getting Java 7 to work? As blackwingcat mentioned, 7 and 8 have GUI problems on 2000 that I too am experiencing. It freezes at the security interface when pressing the Allow button. I think it's related to jp2launcher.exe since that's what I have to kill in Task Manager.
-
Thanks for the update blackwingcat, I'll keep an eye out for it.

Java 6u85 but there's been an update to 6u91 with some critical fixes but so far I've been unable to download it. I'd like to get Java 8 working properly since that's available in a portable version.
-
Hi, is anyone able to get Java 8 working properly on W2K? I'm still having the same problem of the security interface freezing when attempting to allow an applet to run, which forces me to kill the process in Task Manager. The only other opton is to get our hands on the latest Java 6u91 that is not available to the public.

Hi blackwingcat, it's been a while but your latest extended kernel fixed all the problems I was having with the latest Firefox builds and as an added bonus the Google Talk plugin now works so I can use Google Hangouts or Chat with Firefox on W2k. For the longest time I would get an error but it's fine now. So whatever changes you did nice job. Also, I see you've even got Java 6 updates still going. Windows 8, who needs that garbage?

If logging is turned on from the Control Pane\Java.cpl applet it creates a log file in C:\Sun\Java\Deployment\Logs. That tells you what's being loaded from the security end. This version wasn't a problem until they did away with the Low setting in the Security tab since that didn't force the Security Warning popup.
-
Hi blackwingcat, wish there was something I could do, there's no error messages but it's the Permissions box that's crashing when pressing Run. As previously noted, java applets work smoothly if you copy the cache over from XP into W2k's with site permissions already granted. That way the Permissions box doesn't pop up. Are you able to reproduce the crash?
-
Hi blackwingcat, another new problem is that Oracle is no longer updating Java 6. I reinstalled Java 7 and while the present applets in the cache still work fine it's impossible to run new ones because they did away with low setting in the Security tab. That forces the Security permission box dialog to show every time. The problem is it's crashing and it won't permit the applet to run. Tested in XP and it's ok. Hopefully it can be fixed.

Is anyone else having a problem with the latest Firefox 24 nightly? It won't download anything anymore but it does work in XP. I'm still on ExKernal v2.2n9 so maybe blackwingcat's latest version fixes it? Everything else is going good so that's why I tend not to upgrade. Edit: after more testing it will download if you go to the Tools/Download box and retry. It just won't do it automatically anymore as it does in XP. It seems to be a change they made in the last few days that's affecting W2k.

Java 7.7 working just fine here so far using Kernel 17N. It's possible there's some sites not doing well. Haven't installed the 2.2e kernel yet, will probably do that tomorrow. Here's two sites to test: http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm http://www.javatester.org/version.html

Thanks, unfortunately have to use Java every now and then so if it doesn't work good under the latest kernel I can always regress back to 17n. After installing 2.2 there was an extra service running in Task Manager but couldn't figure out what it was. Finally nailed it down to Cryptographic Services? After reverting to 17n it was manually deleted from the Registry since it couldn't be stopped, only disabled. The uninstaller doesn't remove it apparently.
-
Hi blackwingcat, the latest kernel 2.2d breaks Java 7.7 on Firefox nightly as the browser just crashes. So far I haven't tried the Java 6 version with 2.2d but since kernel 17n and Java 7.7 get along good together I've reinstalled kernel 17n for now. Edit: the minimum requirements for kernel 2.2d were installed, including the IE6 update and Root. Except for Java everything seemed to work alright.
-
blackwingcat, nice job, all is well again with v17n.
-
Hi blackwingcat, thanks for all your work. It appears you might have made some fixes regarding the video stop error I was having, what do I need to download? There's the latest v17k and then an extended core with a VGA update, are both of those needed?
-
Several weeks ago I posted about this so I'm glad someone else is now seeing it, hopefully a fix can be worked out. It's a little annoying although the latest Firefox and Thunderbird are still working good.
-
blackwingcat does this mean that you updated it to possibly fix the blue stop error? Anybody else having problems with the latest Java 7 Update 5? It appears broken for me so I went back to Update 3.
-
What I've got is the ATI AGP 4600 series. The last good drivers to work with this card are the 912 beta. I've tried nearly everyone of the 10 and 11 drivers and they would either crash the system or certain sites like youtube video wouldn't play properly. If we can get through Firefox's 17 version without it breaking again then the Kernelex 17c will do for me because FF17 is next for their ESR and that lasts right through 2014.

Hi blackwingcat thought I'd let you know that I couldn't use the latest kernel July 10th Version. It installed but wouldn't get past the start screen and a blue stop error. It was related to the video. Was able to uninstall in safe mode and put 17c back. Works good again.
