  1. Hmm, wonder if there's some kind display driver issues? I'm on XP right now using Nightly 46 with e10s enabled and it's working just fine so there's no way I can file a bug with Mozilla because it's not a problem. I'm only seeing it on W2k. If it's broke for you on XP would you consider filing a bug with Mozilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ It might be the problem is specific to certain systems and not everyone's. There's no chance they will entertain a bug for W2k.
  2. Dibya, google the PosReady 2009 hack for XP, it's a simple registry entry that you add. With that, you can go to Windows Update and download all the latest security patches for XP. PosReady 2009 will be updated until 2019 so there's three more years of XP use.
  3. So you tested nightly 46 and are having the same problem on W2k and XP? Is there anything that can be done? It's working for me on XP, only W2k is broke. It appears to be the tabbar that's unresponsive since it's impossible to even create a new tab.
  4. blackwingcat, are you still testing Firefox on W2k? There's a new problem that just started with e10s or multiprocess in the nightlies v46. If they're enabled, Firefox is dead. It will start but nothing loads and the UI is non-responsive. Since e10s use gdiplus I tried different versions but that didn't do anything. Not sure what it could be but it just recently started. With e10s disabled it's still useable but beginning early next year Mozilla is removing the ability to disable e10s so that will make Firefox dead on W2k. I'll keep trying to figure out what update might be responsible.
  5. That did it, shockwave player is coming right in with GDI+ version 5.2.6002.23835. Not only that but the newer quick time player is also still working. Thanks for the fix, it's good to have the latest versions of these files in case of any security threats.
  6. blackwingcat, the shockwave player is the latest 12.2.2.172. It was the same result with the previous one too 171.
  7. So it's working for you then, just taking longer to load? I gave it five minutes but it still remained blank. Also the newer gdsiplus version breaks some hacked in programs like Quick Time. The last official QT version for W2k was 7.16 but I copied in a later one from XP and it worked but the latest gdsiplus breaks it. The main problem however is the shockwave player, I do need that so I'll just keep the older gdiplus for now.
  8. blackwingcat, how is the latest gdiplus.dll version 6.0.6002.23835 working for you? On my end it's breaking some programs and preventing the latest Shockwave player object version 12.2.2.172 and the previous 12.2.171 from loading on the Firefox webpage. You can test it here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/?promoid=GXVZD Reverting back to gdiplus.dll version 5.2.6002.23775 resolves the problem.
  9. This is an old thread but I'll try anyway. In latest firefox nightlies the developers removed the ability to disable OOPP and so now flash is hopelessly unusable on many sites with the 9.12 legacy drivers. blackwingcat is unable to test the XP 13.1 legacy drivers on 2000 so would anyone have any idea what needs to be done to hack them to install? Hopefully with the newer drivers flash hardware acceleration will function, unlike with the 9.12 drivers.
  10. blackwingcat if you get a chance can you test out the latest dssenh.dll version 5.1.2600.6924. With that flash activex won't install or uninstall for me as I'm getting a runtime error. Going back to 5.1.2600.5507 fixes it. Rsaenh.dll version 5.1.2600.6924 is ok as is the new schannel version 5.1.2600.6926. Edit: please disregard this, I was having the problem with an older version of Extended Kernel (2.4d7) but with your updated one there are no problems that I can see with dssenh.dll.
  11. Hi blackwingcat, I don't know what you mean regarding programs because I'm not sure which ones use it other than Office. I mainly run personal scripts to make OS tasks easier so that probably uses vbscript.dll (version 5.7.6002.23659). Jscript.dll is the same version while cscrip is 5.7.0.16535. It was just a matter of updating the system since WSH has quite a few holes and is constantly being patched by Microsoft. I'd say Office is the most vulnerable.
  12. The WSH 5.8 install package from 2009 was what I was trying to install but it won't, the buttons on the interface are frozen. Does it require registry updates to work properly or can we just extract the files and copy them over into system32? Microsoft will be updating 5.8 until at least 2019, that's why it's better to have that version instead of 5.7.
  13. It's for use with other programs only? I know it's a compnonent of IE8 but thought it could be installed independently as an upgrade to the system. That would be better since POSReady 2009 will be updated until 2019 while Vista ends in 2017.
  14. Are there any prerequisites for installing Script Host 5.8 other than the Kernel32? The buttons are frozen on the interface so it's impossible to intall it. I've got 5.7 already on the system, would just copying over the 11 newer files be sufficient or does it require registry updates to work properly?
  15. Got it, thanks. No problem with the AMD drivers, the 9.12beta still work well enough for now although eventually they'll probably become outdated given the increasing demand of the newer flash versions.
  16. blackwingcat, one of your September updates that patches the atmfd.dll font driver is missing the SP3QFE folder containing the atmfd.dll file, is it inside the update.exe in the update folder instead? Thanks to the PosReady 2009 hack I'm still getting all the latest XP updates so I just copied the newest version 5.1.2.246 into Win2000 but if it is in your update then I'll save it in case it's needed. If it's possible could you look into updating AMD legacy drivers to 13.1? That's the most current version for XP that can be downloaded here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16757/
  17. Isn't the ATI 4000 series and under considered legacy? That's what I have and the last release version in XP that covered those cards was 13.1 and for Windows 7 it's 13.9. XP's can be downloaded here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16757/ Your 12.6 version for 2000 also covers them but 13.4 does not, which is why I won't attempt to install those. Incidentally, I reverted back to 9.12 beta because I was getting strange glitches on some sites with 12.6. Flash hardware acceleration works as well with those older drivers with no crashes so I'll just stay with them for now.
  18. Hi blackwingcat, this is not a must-have request but I was wondering if you have considered updating the ATI legacy versions? I'm using the 9.12 beta and although it's still decent enough it's beginning to get old for these newer versions of flash and other video formats. There's some occasional skipping and instability issues. The last legacy XP release version I believe was 13.1 and for Windows 7 it's 13.9. In my XP system 12.6 is installed and even that would be a significant improvement for 2000.   Edit: ok I seem to recall testing the 12.6 version a while back, which does have legacy support with no success as flash videos kept crashing but now after reinstalling I found out why. Previously flash hardware acceleration was on and that was causing it. With that turned off these drivers appear to work fine. I'm going to keep testing for a few days but there does seem to be an improvement. The youtube videos are clearer and smoother.
  19. Excellent, thanks I'll download it ASAP. Java is one of those programs with so many holes in it that anything less than the latest version is like playing Russian roulette with your system. :--) MrMaguire, For now I'm staying with Java 6, it's good enough. But I am curious how you're getting Java 7 to work? As blackwingcat mentioned, 7 and 8 have GUI problems on 2000 that I too am experiencing. It freezes at the security interface when pressing the Allow button. I think it's related to jp2launcher.exe since that's what I have to kill in Task Manager.
  20. Thanks for the update blackwingcat, I'll keep an eye out for it.
  21. Java 6u85 but there's been an update to 6u91 with some critical fixes but so far I've been unable to download it. I'd like to get Java 8 working properly since that's available in a portable version.
  22. Hi, is anyone able to get Java 8 working properly on W2K? I'm still having the same problem of the security interface freezing when attempting to allow an applet to run, which forces me to kill the process in Task Manager. The only other opton is to get our hands on the latest Java 6u91 that is not available to the public.
  23. Hi blackwingcat, it's been a while but your latest extended kernel fixed all the problems I was having with the latest Firefox builds and as an added bonus the Google Talk plugin now works so I can use Google Hangouts or Chat with Firefox on W2k. For the longest time I would get an error but it's fine now. So whatever changes you did nice job. Also, I see you've even got Java 6 updates still going. Windows 8, who needs that garbage?
  24. If logging is turned on from the Control Pane\Java.cpl applet it creates a log file in C:\Sun\Java\Deployment\Logs. That tells you what's being loaded from the security end. This version wasn't a problem until they did away with the Low setting in the Security tab since that didn't force the Security Warning popup.
  25. Hi blackwingcat, wish there was something I could do, there's no error messages but it's the Permissions box that's crashing when pressing Run. As previously noted, java applets work smoothly if you copy the cache over from XP into W2k's with site permissions already granted. That way the Permissions box doesn't pop up. Are you able to reproduce the crash?
