  1. It's surprising that the monopolistic Microsoft hasn't been more challenged yet for its forcing people to abandon perfectly good computers in order run Windows 11. No wonder it's had a slow uptake.

    In my experience Windows 7 has turned out to be their best so I'm staying with it for as long as possible, even though I've got Windows 10. It improved on XP but still remained fast and configurable with its classic themes and easy ability to install third party apps.

  2. Roy, I know you're busy and thanks for your work but the last mailnews version I've been able to use is from 10/26/2023 because that's the last one where the Outgoing Server (SMPT) is working properly to edit the accounts. Since then it's always blank.

    The Hotmail accounts I gave up on since they're dead and added Gmail accounts in their place and it still works good for those, it's just a matter of restoring the Outgoing Server. I've tried starting from scratch, new profile etc. to no avail, maybe it's there and I'm missing some setting.

    The Oauth2 code I provided to Roytam (who then entered it into Mailnews) dates back to Thunderbird 60:

    I wonder if it is still 100% functional.

    If a password change is needed try this with a modern email-client (and then browser) and then verify the email again.

    Yahoo is still working fine here, did you provide Hotmail Oauth2 code as well?

    Today, I also tried to change my old Hotmail/Outlook account from normal password, which no longer works in Mailnews, to OAuth2. Unfortunately, the popup window was somewhat broken. No button for applying and no description where to insert inputs. :( Here is a screenshot from this broken OAuth2 popup window:

    Both my accounts are getting a full screen with buttons, maybe yours is related to cookies and or javascript? Or possibly that it's regional differences that goes to the link of the sign-in page. For me normal passwords continue to work so Microsoft is probably rolling out those changes slowly instead of all at once.

  5. Hate any program that automatically updates, even firefox. You can add this to the registry and update manually only:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "ManagePreviewBuilds"=dword:00000001
    "ManagePreviewBuildsPolicyValue"=dword:00000000
    "TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
    "TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="22H2"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000001

    MailNews is able to handle OAtuh2 for gmail and yahoo. I would have expected to see it work with hotmail as well.

    Mozilla added OAuth2 for gmail into Thunderbird I believe in v38.0. Not sure when Hotmail was included but it may have been around v60 so whether those working on MailNews can code it into their version is the question. Yahoo had it updated in MailNews by providing a key, I forget by who but it may have been Sampei.Nihira.

    Today Microsoft sent a message that by September 16th all Hotmail accounts must use OAuth2. I've tried setting mailnews up with IMAP (pop accounts don't have the OAuth2 option for Hotmail) but mailnews says it doesn't support that authentication method. Is there anything that can be done to fix this otherwise Hotmail accounts will no longer be available?

    Any answer for this? Well for now at least it doesn't matter since normal password is still working as usual. Microsoft is never on time with their threats so who knows how much longer it will go before they finally pull the plug.

    x.com redirects to twitter.com here.

    Is it supposed to work with UXP browsers? I only get "something went wrong" page, nothing useful in the console.

    Maybe it's for the best, I prefer not to touch anything associated with Musk, LOL.

    Twitter/x works very well for me with Serpent 55.0.

    In about:config I added this string:

    general.useragent.override.x.com

    Then overrode with this user agent string:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0

    Serpent 52 same thing but it doesn't render as well as 55.0, which is has become far better overall than the older version.

    Had given me an error message earlier, but after clicking retry it worked. They seem to be tinkering with the protocol again. :angry:

    Normal password won't last so with Thunderbird 115.0 I already moved my accounts to OAuth2. That protocol is available in pop accounts so it's easier to just do it now and get it over with. With mailnews I'll hold off as long as possible unless Roy can add OAuth2 to pop as well. Much prefer that to IMAP.
