Don't feel bad, he won't respond to posts about mailnews bugs either. Guess it gets on his nerves :-)

It's surprising that the monopolistic Microsoft hasn't been more challenged yet for its forcing people to abandon perfectly good computers in order run Windows 11. No wonder it's had a slow uptake.
In my experience Windows 7 has turned out to be their best so I'm staying with it for as long as possible, even though I've got Windows 10. It improved on XP but still remained fast and configurable with its classic themes and easy ability to install third party apps.

For those on Windows 7 is anyone using e3kskoy7wqk's nightly versions?
https://github.com/e3kskoy7wqk/Firefox-for-windows-7/releases
Currently on the latest 140.0a1-v3 and it's excellent, even better than on Win10 imo. The r3dfox ESR versions are good too.
Still finding many uses for these older versions as well so thanks for all of the great options.

Roy, I know you're busy and thanks for your work but the last mailnews version I've been able to use is from 10/26/2023 because that's the last one where the Outgoing Server (SMPT) is working properly to edit the accounts. Since then it's always blank.
The Hotmail accounts I gave up on since they're dead and added Gmail accounts in their place and it still works good for those, it's just a matter of restoring the Outgoing Server. I've tried starting from scratch, new profile etc. to no avail, maybe it's there and I'm missing some setting.

Another bug with mailnews is there's no way to add or delete anything from the outgoing server because the interface won't open. Even tried with a new profile so it's something inside the program.

At my age it can happen.
Welcome to the club. My memory has been going for as long as I can remember, which isn't long, :--)

If I remember correctly, Hotmail was also 100% functional.
Gmail certainly.
Hotmail OAuth2 was not functional in mailnews but Roy seems to have gotten it though there's still some bugs to work out.

The Oauth2 code I provided to Roytam (who then entered it into Mailnews) dates back to Thunderbird 60:

I wonder if it is still 100% functional.If a password change is needed try this with a modern email-client (and then browser) and then verify the email again.
Yahoo is still working fine here, did you provide Hotmail Oauth2 code as well?

Today, I also tried to change my old Hotmail/Outlook account from normal password, which no longer works in Mailnews, to OAuth2. Unfortunately, the popup window was somewhat broken. No button for applying and no description where to insert inputs.
Here is a screenshot from this broken OAuth2 popup window:
Both my accounts are getting a full screen with buttons, maybe yours is related to cookies and or javascript? Or possibly that it's regional differences that goes to the link of the sign-in page. For me normal passwords continue to work so Microsoft is probably rolling out those changes slowly instead of all at once.

Hi Roy,
What's the status with Hotmail and OAuth2? It appears to be available but when I try to get login authorization from Microsoft for the accounts, either Pop or IMAP I get this message:
"You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead."
So it's not possible to set it up. Or are you still working on it?

I believe it's this one: https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-esr78/rev/6e1d49280545bb8996902c188e4823e738e83b7c
Added in Thunderbird v78.
Good find, a little later than I remember but with the coding done should make it easier for at least the possibility of a fix.

Hate any program that automatically updates, even firefox. You can add this to the registry and update manually only:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"ManagePreviewBuilds"=dword:00000001
"ManagePreviewBuildsPolicyValue"=dword:00000000
"TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
"TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="22H2"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:000000010 -

That was back in 2020, can't believe how fast time goes, thanks for that. Maybe Sampei or another kind individual can code Hotmail for us too.

MailNews is able to handle OAtuh2 for gmail and yahoo. I would have expected to see it work with hotmail as well.
Mozilla added OAuth2 for gmail into Thunderbird I believe in v38.0. Not sure when Hotmail was included but it may have been around v60 so whether those working on MailNews can code it into their version is the question. Yahoo had it updated in MailNews by providing a key, I forget by who but it may have been Sampei.Nihira.

Today Microsoft sent a message that by September 16th all Hotmail accounts must use OAuth2. I've tried setting mailnews up with IMAP (pop accounts don't have the OAuth2 option for Hotmail) but mailnews says it doesn't support that authentication method. Is there anything that can be done to fix this otherwise Hotmail accounts will no longer be available?
Any answer for this? Well for now at least it doesn't matter since normal password is still working as usual. Microsoft is never on time with their threats so who knows how much longer it will go before they finally pull the plug.

I was banned from the Pale Moon forum (decision made by MoonChild) since I provided the OAuth2 code to be entered in MailNews to Roytam.
Of course this was a century ago.....
Still working like a charm.

x.com redirects to twitter.com here.
Is it supposed to work with UXP browsers? I only get "something went wrong" page, nothing useful in the console.
Maybe it's for the best, I prefer not to touch anything associated with Musk, LOL.
Twitter/x works very well for me with Serpent 55.0.
In about:config I added this string:
general.useragent.override.x.com
Then overrode with this user agent string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
Serpent 52 same thing but it doesn't render as well as 55.0, which is has become far better overall than the older version.

Had given me an error message earlier, but after clicking retry it worked. They seem to be tinkering with the protocol again.
Normal password won't last so with Thunderbird 115.0 I already moved my accounts to OAuth2. That protocol is available in pop accounts so it's easier to just do it now and get it over with. With mailnews I'll hold off as long as possible unless Roy can add OAuth2 to pop as well. Much prefer that to IMAP.

That did it, using IMAP I'm now getting OAuth2 as an option so I guess problem solved. For now at least normal password is working again so I'll stay with that.

You're using it with IMAP, maybe that's the trick, I prefer POP but I'll see if changing it to IMAP does anything.

Microsoft is so mixed up, now the account is working again with normal protocol. It probably won't last though, eventually they will force OAuth2 exclusively.

Based on this thread it doesn't work with Office 365 accounts. But normal Outlook accounts do actually work.
That's what I'm using, an office 365 account and that protocol is missing.

@nicolaasjan
Are you the one that's maintaining yt-dlp for Windows 7? If so thanks for that, it works great with the MPC-BE player and should extend the player's life when they stop supporting it on Win 7. I also didn't know how useful yt-dlp is for streaming almost every video out there until recently. Can't live without it now:
