I'm getting a bit confused too, Astalavista. My apologies, I forgot I wasn't communicating with the poster of the original query - I just can't figure out why he doesn't wish to hide the icon.

P.S. Astalavista - I just thought I should point out to you that you're in the XP Forum not the Unattended Forum.

SiMoNsAyS - you can set each icon individually to whichever of the three values you wish regardless of whether, or not, you have selected "Hide Inactive Icons". Your choice in "Customise" will over-ride "Hide Inactive Icons". Astalavista - If you have hardware which installed the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the System tray then you are stuck with it, "Attended" or "Unattended" - unless you wish to create the potential for mayhem should you ever decide to remove the aforementioned hardware. Just hide it.

Right click start - choose properties - taskbar - customise - safely remove hardware and then always hide, or whatever you wish to do. I, personally, have that particular one as always hide. Or am I totally misinterpreting the query? If I am then my apologies.

Regardless of whether you wish to hide it, or not, you have three choices, and three choices only. Hide when inactive. Always show. or Always hide.

The first thing to do is to look in Add/Remove Programs to see if they have entries there.

Have you tried support at - http://www.ea.com/home/home.jsp other than that, what about the vendor? Can they not help?

Look in C:\Windows\Repair. The Autoexec.nt should be in there, in an expanded state. Just copy it to the System32 folder...that should work.

Zxian, thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated. I agree with you about XP - I run a much nLited version of XP (no Internet Explorer, no Outlook Express, no Windows Media Player etc.) and it's running like a dream. I was contemplating migrating to Linux, as I found there were many features of XP which I didn't use but then I discovered nLite and now I have two different versions of Linux languishing in the bottom of my desk drawer - who needs Linux when you can have an nLitened XP. One of the consequences of not having the three apps. I mentioned is that I need to use Daisy 2.2 or get my updates and security fixes from the Download Centre, manually, but as most of the security fixes are, usually but not always, for the three apps. I don't generally need to accept many fixes. As I stated in a previous post, I'm an "Oldie" (well, I'm middle aged really) so I'm a bit more cautious and, even though I don't stray from a well beaten path when I'm online, I have, still, taken the precaution of surrounding myself with the metaphorical "Ring of Steel" by way of a subscription AV, Sygate Personal Firewall (configured to allow nothing out apart from security apps. to be updated plus Firefox and Thunderbird) and several anti-spyware apps. which include Giant, Adaware and Spybot. I believe that the individual is, or should be, responsible for the security of their own Computer on, or off, the Internet - remember that your virus today is somebody elses tomorrow. There are probably many who disagree with me but that's how I feel about it and I'm not about to change and, before anyone writes in to tell me that Free AVs are just as good as subscription ones, let me tell you that the only times I've had a virus it was with a free AV (AVG, not once but twice in one month) that's what prompted me to invest in a paid-for AV (NOD32). I produce photographs - as I stated previously, it's a "Digital Darkroom", which is a much more comfortable place to be than a conventional "wet darkroom". If you have ever spent hours, stumbling around in the dark, to produce a couple of enlargements then you'll know what I mean. With the computer, as you know, I can feed a roll of film through the scanner then process my prints, as I wish them to be, in no time at all - all of this done with the light on, sheer bliss to an "oldie" such as I (you tend to look for the easy, and the comfortable, way out as you get older). Photography, as I said, is my main interest and my computer is a fantastic aid, and an enhancement, to it ... I have to admit would be somewhat lost without it now. "My Computer = My Life.... sad but true.. lol." Bi0haZarD, to each his, or her, own. If you like it then continue to do it and let no one tell you any different!

Unfortunately, I'm very boring - I just use my computer (XP) as a digital darkroom. I don't play games, I don't use it to listen to music, watch videos or any of the other things that people seem do with theirs. Surfing the internet is not for me - I have twelve sites that I visit, plus this one, they are related to photography, powerlifting and computer helprooms. My computer is simply an adjunct to my main interest, which is photography or, to put it another way, if I didn't have my cameras I wouldn't have a computer - sad but true.

Copy Autoexec.nt file from your i386 folder to the desktop Use Winzip to expand it. Move it to your System32 folder.
