  1. I've modified the .INF files so that they will work with RIS.
  2. This has actually been discussed at length. Do a search in this forum (or maybe the Device Drivers forum) for "How to Keep the Drivers". That should pop up the thread. Integrating the drivers into Driver.cab is virtually impossible for a number of reasons. It was then discussed the possibility of making another driver.cab file. There's an awful lot to it and it's a bit more involved than would initially meet the eye.
  3. Well it may not be exactly what you're looking for but the utility I linked to can actually capture packets based on pretty specific criteria, and log it besides. If you really want to get involved in developing your own tools to do this, you're a better man than I.
  4. This may be one of those registry entries that does not stick and may need to be imported during RunOnceEx.
  5. It's official - my Paint.NET installer sucks. I'll work on it.
  6. Considering how terrible Hotmail has been for however many years now, I'll reserve judgement.
  7. I'm fairly certain that X-NetStat Pro can do what you're looking to do. I've used it's filtering and logging functions before with success.
  8. You know I've been biting my tongue for as long as I can stand it now. For someone with so few posts, who has contributed so little, you sure do put out an awful lot of attitude. Just remember this - nobody here owes you anything. The driver packs are provided are at no charge. It's not as though you went out and spent $2,000 on the latest Adobe post production studio suite. All of the criticism and the incomprehensible level of rudeness may have been tolerated by some up to this point, but I'm telling you now that at least one frequent visitor to these forums has noticed. Constructive input and feedback would be much more welcome than your consistently passive aggressive posts.
  9. Usually it's not a problem with installers made from an administrative installation point. I have run into some notable problem children though. PowerArchiver for some reason always does this to me unless you run the app from the start menu first I never did figure that one out and quite frankly I don't even care now as I use 7-Zip and WinRAR almost exclusively for archive files. Another one is Spybot - Search and Destroy. I've had a couple of complaints about the current posting. I'm guessing that if I pack it up with the browser helper disabled that the problem will go away. What I've determined is that there are two things that for some strange reason will only sometimes cause these problems. Shell extensions and browser extensions. I wish I could nail it down with absolute certainty. For instance, I've never had this problem ever with 7-Zip or WinRAR, both of which use shell extensions. I should start a new thread "Unattended Installation Mysteries"
  10. I've only ever installed it from svcpack.inf and didn't notice that, but then again I can't say for certain that I've recreated your set of circumstances - open files multiple times via right click. I'll have to check into it further.
  11. You could replace the .exe files, but you never know when Apple will add some new registry entries. I always just repack something from scratch when a new version comes out. Some of these things I practically do in my sleep now.
  12. Update - 20060307 Updated OpenOffice.org to V2.0.2
  13. Yea but the default installer doesn't let you create an AIP or modify the settings too readily. The other part is file size. Making an installer usually results in a much smaller file size. With DVD's being so common, this is less of an issue, but I still run into so many computers with only a CD drive or it has a DVD drive so old it won't properly read my DVDs.
  14. I'm just running a standard 2 step snapshot in AdminStudio, then I clean up the mess it makes and rebuild it. If you supply me with the registry entries you'd like in there, with an explanation, I'll put them in. Usually the only stuff I like to change from default are things that tighten up the default security. I don't like to repack installs that are already in .msi form, but sometimes that's just how you have to do it. Windows Live Messenger is one example of this are here with iTunes, we have another.
  15. Considering that about half the people here are unable to download from them at all, it probably makes sense to look elsewhere.
  16. Oh man I didn't realize what I was getting myself involved with here. What a pain in the bum. Anyways, after fooling around with the .msi file for a bit, I kept on getting stopped at the installation of some driver or another. Just for kicks I decided to try a good old fashioned repack. It seems to work just fine. The problem is that I don't have an iPod, so I can't really test it out. A possible bonus is that QuickTime Alternative V1.67 should work with this too. I've found V1.68 to be utter garbage. I stripped out all but English language support in the interest of file size and because I just wanted to get this made. If it works out fine, I'll make one with more extended language support. Any brave souls? iTunes V6.0.4.2 switchless silent installer
  17. So how much did you get to download? Is it only down for the day?
  18. Ahh.. Apple has pulled the old "You must use setup.exe" trick. This is something Ahead and Adobe do as well. I always get around it by deleting the custom action from the .msi file. This is not something that the Microsoft Installer format was meant to provide. So some of these idiots put it in their installers purposefully. It sounds as though Dumpy Dooby has found a way around it. One thing to consider - if you use my switchless silent installer for the InstallShield Script Engine, you could leave out the ISScript11.msi file from your installer. Check it out in my switchless silent installer thread. EDIT: This is starting to get my interest now. I'm downloading iTunes right now and am going to see what I can do with it. I have a friend who needs his computer reinstalled sometime soon and it's going to need iTunes on it. So what the heck, may as well tackle this now.
  19. It's the deal where you execute msiexec /a filename.msiand then point the installer to an empty temporary directory. Essentially it extracts everything from the .msi file to that directory. The resulting .msi file then contains nothing but the install instructions, registry entries, and the like. It's the process that I use in practically all of my switchless silent installers. I've found over the years that using the packaged .msi file can often invoke the dialog box you posted above. Now obviously there are exceptions to the rule and further, there are people who author truly terrible .msi packages where they don't follow any of the best practices. As a side benefit, using the AIP method will allow your 7-Zip or WinRAR based silent installer to be smaller in size. Sometimes a great deal smaller.
  20. @Fencer, I had always considered the Intel Pro to be the gold standard until your recent issues with that new mobo. It just seems like they're dropping the ball lately on things. As a matter of interest - 3Com is who Microsoft paired up with in the development of the RBFG floppy disk. So you can be fairly confident that it should work with most if not all 3Com NICs.
  21. I'm not sure if you can even find them anymore, but I always loved the 3Com 3C905C PCI NICs. Seems now that everything I buy comes with a builtin NIC these days. But I still support a lot of systems with these older 3Coms in them and they work fantastic.
  22. Just though of something else. If you are making your switchless silent installer without first converting the .msi into an administrative installation point, then this error would be expected. Whenever you install something from an AIP based .msi, it copies over a bunch of stuff to %systemroot%\Installer. Note that is a supperhidden directory. I don't use iTunes myself, but I try to follow what's going on with it since some computers I support do in fact use it.
  23. For starters are you using QuickTime Alt V1.68? I believe that version is needed for the latest iTunes to work. Also you may want to try out ALLUSERS=2 instead of 1. See if that helps.
  24. That's the license management service and it's required to run any of the newer Adobe products. I would suggest giving Adobe a call if there's a problem with it.
