  2. 1> I've been playing with a program called ResHacker You can edit the resources within .dll and other files. 2> You have to create them
  3. Registry tweaks This is part of the unattened guide which is kinked at the top of the main page. It has some valuable info which helped my alot.
  4. Be care****. AutoPartition = 1 will delete all the partitions on the first drive and create one large partition to install windows on.
  5. Are you using the folder structure in this web page $OEM$ Folder structure You should also read the whole unattended guid, which that page is a small part of
  6. do you have a \ after the %KEY% in your runeonceex.cmd file? I edited it and tried it on my machine and it showed in the registry ok. but didn't show correctly when I uploaded ti the forum You could also run the command manually and then check the regestry to see what the problem is
  7. Open a command window and type if /? or any other dos command to find how to use it. You either need it all on the same line or use ( ) like this IF EXIST "*.log" DEL "*.log" ELSE ( IF EXIST "*.exe" DEL "*.exe" ELSE ( CD "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop" ) )
  8. If by 'available for repair' you mean the recovery console? Then you'll have to remove winnt.sif from the CD. cmdlines.txt is still executed even without winnt.sif. Just call your reg file for autologon from cmdlines.txt Don't know what other settings in winnt.sif you could change with a reg file.
  9. I think I understand, but not sure how to do it. Hpefully someone else here can help.
  10. Do you mean something like this? Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\DosHere] @="Command Prompt in containing folder" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\DosHere\Command] @="cmd.exe /t:70 cd %~d1%~p1" This Remove the /t:70 to have default white letters on black screen
  11. Hope this is the right place to ask this? Anyway, I have a Gateway with Media center edition 2005. I only have generic OEM home or Pro XP disks available to make a disk with the OEMBIOS files. Can I use one of those? And which one. Or do I need to get a hold of a Media center edition disk?
  12. You'll find the answers to many of you questions at the link oioldman gave you. I'd also check in the Application install forum.
  13. I've been converting my files to .inf and was having trouble finding what bits to set for which setting I wanted to change in userpreferencesmask. So I created this .inf file to make it easier for me, and to learn something new.
  14. actually OEMSCAN has nothing to do with my Nero problem. I'm running oemscan on the gateway computer with original software. Which gets the cat file corrupt error. I extracted the oembios files using getoemfiles.bat and the key using getkey.bat. Made my UADVD which gets the nero problem when I install XP. Anyway its working and I have all the gateway crap off. I'll try it again in the future, but for now I'm going to let it rest for awhile. But I'd be interested if anyone else with this model of gateway has tried this. Thanks for everyones help
  15. The quotes are formatted correctly. I made a UACD from a generic OEM disk and copied the oembios files into the i386 dir. It installed XP ok. only problem is when I install nero I get an error saying it can't register 2 xml files, but I can still burn disks. But if I install using the generic oem disk it has no problems. The only difference between the two disks is the key and the bios files. So I don't see how that would affect nero registering xml files.
  16. The hashes are correct, do you have the expanded oembios.* files in the GatewayC (or what ever directory its assigned to) directory? No nothing is in GatewayC. I got the files using your getoemfiles.bat program. I also downloaded the bios files from the repository to compare and they matched what I had
  17. oembios.bin = CC3FAECC oembios.cat = C86378C7 oembios.dat = F13B3526 oembios.sig = 937CFC7B
  18. Gateway Model GM5084 47617465 776179 When I run oemscan I get a cat file corrupt error
  19. Its tied to the BIOS on the motherboard. Meaning it will only activate on the computer it came with or perhaps a similar one from the same manufacturer.
  20. You could go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx and do a search.
  21. Don't know of a registry tweak but if you delete or rename this directory they won't show. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures
  22. The value is in hex so, so for ten you would enter 0000000a. With hex you count 0123456789ABCDEF
  23. I have mine set to 12 actually 13 in this instance. I changed the value to make sure I had the right key Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Start_MinMFU"=dword:0000000d
  24. I was having trouble getting the settings controlled by 'userpreferencesmask' to be applied correctly. I made a batch that would run when each user logged on. But that didn't work. So I made the batch run when the computer is booted and that seems to be working. But I have a question. The files are placed in 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\Machine\Scripts\Startup' And this regtweak is applied Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Scripts\Startup\0\0] "Script"="usertweaks.cmd" "Parameters"="" "ExecTime"=hex(b):00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 What is the ExecTime for? I found a few items searching, but I couldn't see that they had anything to do with this. But I could be wrong. They mostly had to do with XML and programing.
