  1. I am trying to figure out how to do this, to remove "settings" from the start menu. The closest I found is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSetFolders"=dword:00000001 "NoSetTaskbar"=dword:00000001 The problem is that is makes "Taskbar and Start Menu" in control panel to disappear, and well as disables right mouse clicking on the taskbar. So has anyone discover a way to do this? Thanks in advance.
  2. I don't know how many files are affected, but I know of at least one that is. When nLite runs it decompresses the files in the I386 folder. I discovered that ntkrnlmp.exe / ntkrnlmp.ex_ isn't re-compressed. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way in the program to set it up so that it does? Thanks in advance.
  3. I decided after many years of just using HFSLIP for my slip-streaming and install modification needs, I decided to give nLite another look. I am running into one major issue that is causing me grief. In running the program you must select the folder where the original files from the CD. In HFSLIP terms the SOURCE folder. When I run nLite it modifies the files in this folder. This is an issue as when I want to do another slipstream with nLite I have to recopy the files again from the CD. In HFSLIP, the modified version is placed in a different folder called SOURCESS. This kept the SOURCE folder unaffected so one could run the script many times. Is there a setting in nLite that will allow the same functionality, keeping the SOURCE folder unaffected? In the nLite FAQ is states: "Can i add things back once they have been removed? While you can't add things back to an nLited installation, you can use an original Windows installation source and import a previous session to further refine the selections made in that previous session. To do this, manually specify the source installation as you did before, allow nlite to perform the copy, and remember to import the .ini file from the previously-created session." This sounds like it does, but I don't see any options to "allow nlite to perform the copy". Thanks in advance.

    FDV fileset for XP

Yes, I did perform step 7. Fred said "Although my method is simpler (see below) I advocate using nLite as it's far more flexible for most of what people want to do. I give only one set of options, Nuhi gives you a lot more choice." I have many times used nLite, and didn't care for it. Just my personal preference. I'm not PO'd that its not working, just wondering why its not, and wanting to know what needs to be done to resolve it.

    FDV fileset for XP

Ok, different subject on this thread: I finally tried an actual install on a real machine. While using it I noticed that a few times IE came up. I'm confused by this, as I was under the assumption that the FDV fileset's purpose was to remove IE. Am I mistaken on this assumption? If I'm not mistaken, then why is IE rearing its ugly head?

    FDV fileset for XP

Ok....... what does all this have to do with the price of tea in china??? It doesn't matter WHERE I put these folders at - they are not working. In Win 2K(both FDVed and not) the folders work ANYWHERE, and in WinXP non-FDVed the folders work ANYWHERE, but in WinXP FDVed the folders DO NOT work ANYWHERE. So this whole DEFAULT folder BS has been nothing but a wild goose chase - very annoying. And for the record, I have been using HFSLIP for over 5 years - so please, quit with the noob comments.
  7. I tried the "tweakuipowertoysetup.exe /S /v/qn" but it didn't work. I ended up extracting the TweakUI.exe file from the installer and wrote a CMD file to have it and a shortcut placed where I wanted it.

What is the system variable for DEFAULT? I search for one but failed to find it. According to wikipedia there isn't one.
  9. Thank you both (submix8c and mukke) for the info! (Yeah submix8c, I didn't see that page! How did you get to it, as I don't see any links to it). So, back to my other question: if I use his archive and do the file replacements listed - would I then have the most recent and up-to-date version of Win2K, or has there been any updates released not included in this archive? Thanks again!
  10. No problem, thanks for getting back to me! I am intrigued by the use of these folders in the hfexpert folder. (you mentioned "hfexpert\storage" in another post). Thanks for the file.
  11. Thanks for the response. What is "hftools\hfslip_post*.cmd"? (its not located in my hftools folder)
  12. I also removed the following: q331485.exeq816362.exeq824220.exeQ830849.exeIE6.0sp1-KB834158-x86-ENU.regIE6.0sp1-KB893627-Windows-2000-XP-x86-ENU.regAlso, what's the difference between hfslip-1.7.10_beta_J_v10_modified_by_tomasz86.cmd and hfslip-1.7.10_beta_J_v11.cmd?
  13. @tomasz86 Thanks for responding. I decided to download your HFSLIP_ia.7z and use that, as in a previous post of yours you state that using your files will create the most updated version of Win2K. Am I correct to assume this is still the case? The only thing I changed was removing the following files: IE6.0SP1-KB2792100-WINDOWS2000-X86-ENU.EXEIE6.0SP1-KB2797052-WINDOWS2000-X86-ENU.EXEIE6.0sp1-KB302224-x86-ENU.exeIE6.0sp1-KB834158-x86-ENU.exeie6.0sp1-kb885258-windows-2000-xp-x86-enu.exeIE6.0sp1-KB893627-Windows-2000-XP-x86-ENU.exeIE6.0sp1-KB900732-Windows-2000-XP-x86-ENU.exeIE6.0sp1-KBz2544521-v2-Windows2000-x86-Global.exeOE6.0sp1-UU-KB978542-KB2423089-KB2544893-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exeAnd adding the following files: IE5.01sp4-KB938127-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exeIE5.01sp4-KB982381-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exeOE5.5sp2-KB978542-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exeI am doing this due to using the FDV fileset. So.... and I doing this correctly? Are there any other IE5 update files that I might need? Thanks again!

    FDV fileset for XP

I'm willing to try. Please excuse my ignorance (I am relatively new to XP) though - what do you mean by "trying it in DEFAULT"? How do I do that? lol - yeah, I have other stuff to do. Thanks again.
  15. Ok, I think this should be my last two questions in regards to this topic. This one is in regards to 2K. The program says I should have "Windows Script 5.6.0.8831 installer", whose file name is scriptEN.exe. However I am not able to find it anywhere on the MS website. I can find 5.7, but not 5.6. The program is also saying: Found Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000---------------------------------------------------------------(HF\Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-ENU.EXE)Required for slipstreaming IE6. For multi-core or hyperthreaded CPU use unofficial KB919521/KB891861-v3 or apply a registry fix from KB919521Where are these files of which it speaks? Thanks again!!

    FDV fileset for XP

Wow! I have the classic view set up at installation using a .reg file in the HFSVCPACK folder. I am also only logging in as admin. I think you are getting WAY hung up on the fact that the line in the cmd I was using, md "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"has %ALLUSERSPROFILE% in it. This issue occurs when just making a random folder ANYWHERE (C:\, etc) and naming it one of those Special Folders names. The reason I am thinking its something with FDV fileset is due to the fact that if I make an ISO without it (CHANGING NOTHING ELSE) the issue goes away. If I put the fileset back (CHANGING NOTHING ELSE) the issue comes back. Therefore logic would seem to dictate that something is happening with the fileset.
  17. lol - after posting this question after a couple hours of searching, I searched a little more and was able to find it here: http://web.archive.org/web/20120201000000*/http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/A/A/4AA524C6-239D-47FF-860B-5B397199CBF8/windows-kb890830-v4.5.exe

    FDV fileset for XP

I didn't answer his question due to the fact that the reason I want to do this has no bearing as to why the FDV fileset is doing this. Oh, and I am using classic view. Again, the issue is that the FDV fileset seems to be breaking something which is causing this error.
  19. The current version on Microsoft's website (5.12) does not run on Win2K. According to HFSLIPFC, version 4.5 does. Where can I get version 4.5? Thanks in advance.

    This error also affects these other Special Folders which I also tried: Administrative Tools.{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524153} Fonts.{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524152} My Computer.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} My Network Places.{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D} Network Connections.{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} Printers and Faxes.{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} Recycle Bin.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
  21. How do I slipstream TweakUI in XP? I tried putting the TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe file into HFSVCPACK_SW1 and HFSVCPACK_SW2, but if pauses the install process waiting for user feedback - making my unattended install not so unattended. Anyone know the solution to this? Thanks in advance!
  22. Thank you once again for explaining this to me. I appreciate it greatly.
  23. Thank you for the quick and helpful reply. There are five other updates that HFSLIPFC list that isn't on your page: KB975558, KB2909212, KB961503, KB982316 and KB2264107?
  24. Thank you for the quick reply and helpful responce. I have a follow up. HFSLIPFC says I should have KB969878, but your website says nothing about it. So what's the story on that? FYI, I am slipstreaming with a WinXP SP3 CD, without updating IE and such (IE6, WMP9, RDC6 (with RDP 6.1) and MSXML3&6). If that added info modifies your previous response, please let me know. Thanks again.
  25. When I run HFSLIPFC I get the following: obsolete: HF\WindowsXP-KB956744-x86-ENU.exe (MS09-044: Remote Desktop Connection, replaced by KB2483618). But according to http://xdot.tk/ the WindowsXP-KB956744-x86-ENU.exe file is the most up to date, and it says nothing about KB2483618. So which is correct? Thanks in advance.
