Thanks for the reference SiR_CharLZ Update: Silent install of MsgPlus will attempt to open MSN Messenger 6 at the end of the MsgPlus installation, and opens Internet Explorer as well. It didn't affect the rest of the batch in any way, but felt uncomfortable that 2 apps were open when the batch was installing my other applications. I've also done the driver install and must say it was pretty good, nice to have Catalyst 3.6 installed on first boot up, along with ATI control panel. Didn't have any luck on getting to install the Netgear v1.30 drivers for my FA311 NIC, and the extracted LiveDrvUni-Pack.exe (10th March 2003) for my Sound Blaster Live! 1024 though.

Bradbo emailed me yesterday to tell me he's solved the problem. I'll add it here so that everyone knows: He installed Diskeeper Lite which restored the defrag option in the properties window of a hard drive. He said that the cause of it was when he installed O&O Defrag a while back and when he uninstalled it, it removed Windows Defrag as well (weird). Anyhow, he's happy with Diskeeper Lite

Very very bad advice, even for a set of drivers that have different files for WinXP/2K/98 Lynchknot, try to run setup.exe in safe mode (VIA drivers should always be installed in safe mode anyway as a file conflict precaution)

heh, explains the DDOS attacks they keep getting doesn't it? They've been very very naughty

Viewing ASP files.. HELP
Aaron replied to ThA_FiLeR's topic in Web Development (HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, XML, etc.)
if its asking for a download, it means ASP isn't supported on the Server. Does the host support ASP, or have you enabled it on the Host control panel if there is one? -
That's correct, MSFN and various other sites don't hold N***** in very high regard, due to their news stealing activites. Mind you, they're the only one in the board filters. We get on well with every other tech site. Welcome to MSFN by the way!

It might has something to do with Adobe Acrobat trying to open a PDF thats embedded in the Outlook email data files. Did it used to work OK before?
-
lo, welcome to MSFN Make sure you visit every nook and cranny of MSFN! Watch out for the flying zebras though, we've had unconfirmed reports on it

Vcant, if you have any PC/Virtual PC's running Windows XP, try TweakUI 2.10 on it. More of my findings: The Start Menu items work in Windows Server 2003, but not in XP.

Happy birthday bud! :afro:

Check out this report to see if you're infected, there's no removal tool though... :/ http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen.../w32.pinfi.html

They go into the X:\$OEM$\$1\ folder on the CD. You can make any folders in the '$1' folder. Setup instructs the contents of $1 to be copied to the root of the hard drive. A folder I chose is called 'install' and when Setup copies that over, it becomes c:\install\ To make this sound simplier: X:\$OEM$\$1\MyFiles\hotfixes.cmd will be C:\MyFiles\hotfixes.cmd It's recommended you use %systemdrive%\MyFiles\ incase you install on a drive other than C:\ Read above, you can make your own folders, many as you like, and make sure the paths to them are correct. %systemdrive% refers to the hard disk that Windows XP is being installed to. (C:\) %systemroot% would be where C:\Windows or C:\winnt is, and so on. (Try typing these commands at Start > Run) MSN Messenger 6: rename Setup.exe to a suitable filename, e.g. msnmsgs6.exe, then use: msnmsgs6.exe /Q:A /R:N Messenger Plus is /SilentInstall or /SilentInstallNoSponsor As for the other apps, you will need to experiment with the switches, sometimes the app will tell you the switches by typing appname.exe /? I haven't got to the part of installing drivers yet, I have instructions for doing the Radeon Catalyst drivers and hoping it will be a base to help me study silent installations for other drivers. EDIT: sorry sunil, didn't see your post above, spent 15 mins typing this up

Interesting, I've never had TweakXP installed but the new TweakUI 2.10 also has an empty box in the Start Menu section. It may not be related to TweakXP at all, and probably a bug in TweakUI 2.10 that was only just released yesterday. I might also add that I don't use the XP Start Menu, I use the Classic Start Menu. I switched to XPs to test TweakUI. Hopefully more people reply in this thread so we can pinpoint the problem. The only thing I can suggest for now is to revert back to the old TweakUI

Balder multiboot looked pretty good when I had a look at it last week. The CD I've created here isn't an Nin1 CD though, just XP with the extras that silently install.

I don't know what country you're in, but if its not U.S or Canada then the configcache edit is still required to play games, you'll need to change a line such as en-gb to en-us: http://www.MSFN.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=7314

Restart the PC, go into the BIOS from the POST screen (the black screen where it does the memory check), usually its the DEL key that gets you into the BIOS. Go to the Boot Options and select CDROM as first boot device. Put in your Windows 98 CD, and install onto the same hard drive. The programs and settings you left it as should still exist on Windows 98 (learning from past experience)

Thanks, updated files.

heheh If for example I get a 19" CRT/TFT running at 1280 res, will I have to switch it to 1024 for dual monitor support with my 17"? How would the keyboard and mouse react if I was playing a game on one monitor, and browsing on another monitor? Is there ATI switching software similar to how a KVM hardware switch would function?

It's been replaced with another site, and work discontinued. He's given me his work, so give me time before I put it online.

heh nice, I do have a couple of old monitors I can use, guess I will have to run the res at 1024x since they're only 17" CRTs.
